JAN & TEY

Chandler Bing Syndrome… that’s a real thing and unfortunately I suffer from it.
For those that are not sure what I’m talking about, watch Friends Season 7 Episode 5: «The One With the Engagement Picture». Monica and Chandler go to take engagement photos. Chandler is fine until the moment the photographer is about to snap a photo… for whatever reason, he ends up with a weird expression on his face. That’s so me!!! I hate taking pictures and anytime there is a camera near my face, I tense up and end up with an unnatural, awkward smile.
My husband is extremely photogenic and therefore taking pictures is no big deal to him. But because I am plagued by CBS, I was really nervous about taking engagement photos. I knew finding a photographer that was going to make me comfortable enough to take good photos was very important but I also knew it wasn’t going to be an easy feat. I researched online and asked friends for referrals. We were close to picking someone when we saw a sample wedding book by Jan & Tey at the Newport Marriott. My husband and I just knew that’s who we wanted.
We hired Jan & Tey to shoot our engagement and wedding photos back in 2009. Being the true professionals they are, they put me at ease and were actually able to capture some really nice shots. Jan is extremely creative in setting up the right shot and finding the right shadows and lines to accentuate his subject and deliver a message. Tey is the calming force and the one that is able to capture true emotions. As a husband and wife team, they complement each other very well. And besides their professionalism, they have a genuine passion for their craft and it shows in the pictures they take.
My review is delayed since I wasn’t much of a Unilocaler back then and because Jan & Tey had moved out of the country for a bit. But they’re back now and back in business, so I figured it was time for me to write this long overdue but much deserved 5 star review.

Jan and Tey are AWESOME!!! I love the creativity Jan and Tey have — they are clearly passionate about what they do and I felt like they were enjoying our wedding day almost as much as we were. They had so many great ideas of poses to do, etc. My husband initially thought we could get a friend to do our pics but when he saw Jan & Tey’s portfolio, he gave me the okay — they have a unique talent provided pic ideas we hadn’t previously seen. Other wedding guests also commented on how Jan & Tey were so gracious and polite about everything. I look forward to using their services for future events!

I’ve known Jan & Tey since before they began their amazing photography business, and I can vouch for their incredible talent as natural and easy from day one. From the very beginning, I was inspired by their work. And when MY big day came along, there was no one else I wanted behind the cameras at our wedding.
Shooting with Jan and Tey was so easy and effortless. We were impressed with how well they work together and how efficiently the shoots move along. Not only are they a joy to work with and just be around, but it’s easy to see why they are award-​winning photographers.

Jan and Tey shot our engagement and wedding photos. They are both extremely talented and have an amazing instinct on how/​when to take candid photos. I will always treasure the photos they captured of those pivotal moments in our life. They are such a pleasure to work with and an awesome team. I was especially grateful for their care, concern, responsiveness, and quick turnaround of the photos after the wedding.

sooooo AMAZING! Jan and Tey shot our wedding and we LOVED our pictures! Both are truly talented and can capture the most artistic photos. They helped guide us through poses and found great spots for us to take pictures. We couldn’t be happier with the results.
They are good at capturing both posed pieces and creating great shots as well as capturing key moments during the wedding (despite us asking them to stay out of the front of the ceremony).
Jan and Tey are professional and discreet, but still personable and cool to hang with. We enjoyed spending most of our special day with them!
We still love to look back at our wedding pictures, and every time we do, we marvel are their talent and comment on what a great decision it was for us to choose them for our wedding photographers!

We can’t sing enough praises of Jan & Tey! They are responsive, personable, punctual and extremely professional. They did such an amazing job shooting our engagement and wedding. For our engagement shoot, Jan went all the way out to Joshua Tree National Park with us. He was not afraid of getting down and dirty to capture the most spectacular pictures for us! We really loved how the images reflected who we are as a couple.
Their documentary style really shined through our wedding photos as if you can actually feel the emotions through the images. The actual wedding day flew by quickly and we couldn’t have a better memento than the pictures they captured so we can relive that day whenever we look through our wedding photos! Thank you Jan & Tey for the amazing work you did!

I’m trying to come up with the words to express just how amazing Jan and Tey are but nothing I can say will do them justice! But here goes…
Jan and Tey shot my engagement and wedding photos in 2009, and choosing them as our photographers was the best decision we made. Their work speaks for itself, and every time I see their photos now I can’t believe they just keep getting better and better. Not only is the work beautiful, but it’s unique. So many photographers I’ve seen shoot the same shots, in the same places, in the same way, over and over again with each couple. Every wedding Jan and Tey shoots looks different. When my husband and I met Jan and Tey, not only we were impressed with their work, but their personalities and easy going attitudes solidified our decision. They’re never in your face, never pushy, never cheesy and never loud. And somehow manage to make even the most nervous subjects feel comfortable, and look natural.
I wish my husband and I could have another wedding just so we could have another set of beautiful photos! Thank you again and again Jan and Tey. I will cherish our photos forever!

Jan and Tey shot our engagement and wedding and we absolutely love them!!! They are very professional and very easy to work with. They made us feel very comfortable during our session and we went to a couple different locations for our engagement shoot. They guided us on all the poses and where to look and the end results were beautiful! At the wedding our guests/​family loved them since they were so personable and friendly. They were able to work with our budget also. We told them the look and style of what we wanted our wedding to be and they deliver such that in the photos. The quality of the pictures were great and we even got a wedding album.
I would highly recommend this duo to shoot your wedding/​engagement. This is one of the most important days of your lives so I wouldn’t cut corners and go cheap. You can never actually re-​live that day again, but through great pictures you can come close.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Jan & Tey! They photographed our wedding in October 2012 and I could not have been happier to hire them to shoot our wedding. I had very high standards for my wedding photographer. I didn’t want just want wedding pictures, I wanted AMAZING wedding pictures! Something that looks like it comes from a magazine and something that I can hang up in our house as art, not just some cheesy posed stare-​at-​the-​camera-​and-​smile wedding portrait. (No offense to anyone that has those types of wedding pics… just not mine and my husband’s style). Jan & Tey absolutely delivered and our photos turned out better than we could have imagined! Jan & Tey will capture amazing shots and you will never know they were there and that you were capable of looking that good in your photos. Haha. They capture the candid moments of your wedding day so beautifully, you can really feel the emotion in their photos. The day flew by and was such a blur, but whenever I look at my wedding pictures, I can remember how I felt at that moment. Jan & Tey are that good at what they do.
They not only do amazing candid shots but do fantastic posed portraits! They will NOT look cheesy and they make you look like models! My husband and I are kind of awkward when it comes to getting our pictures taken, but you would have never guessed from our pictures because Jan & Tey did such a great job with the poses so that they looked natural. In our engagement shoot w/​Jan, it was a little weird at first because it was our first time getting photos taken of us and being posed for pictures but Jan made us feel comfortable and we soon loosened up and our pictures turned out great! Their photos are so creative, unique, dramatic, and beautiful. You won’t be disappointed!
They are not cheap and I was a little discouraged at first because I loved their work and I didn’t want to pass on Jan & Tey and just settle for someone cheap, but I did have a budget I was trying to stick to since my husband and I were paying for the wedding ourselves. To my surprise, they were willing to work with us on pricing and we were able to hire them! I did splurge a little bit but this was one area of the wedding I wasn’t really willing to cut corners on and I was so happy they were willing to work something out with us.
It did take a while to get our pictures back but they had informed me that they were relocating out of the country to take their business to the Philippines (bummer for us) so they were a bit backlogged on their weddings. I will say that it was well worth the wait though because our pictures are fantastic! I’m so bummed that they are no longer in the states because I would love to have them shoot more photos for us in the future. I still wanted to write this review for them because I think they deserve it!

I’m not sure why no one has written a review for Jan Garcia yet. He is AMAZING. I highly recommend him for your engagement/​wedding photos. We did our engagement photos with him and he showed the utmost professionalism, experience, and artistic eye that we all want in a photographer, especially for such an important occasion.
We had our engagement shots taken yesterday at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park and Laguna Beach by Jan. He arrived early and scoped out good picture locations. He likes a wide variety in his pictures and we certainly got just that. I think a very important part that makes him such a good photographer is how he will put you at ease and instruct you through the pictures so that you will have optimal head placement, gaze, etc. He definitely has a great eye for shots that will turn out beautifully. After the Wilderness Park, we drove to Victoria Beach in Laguna Beach where we did quite a few sunset/​darkness photos. If you check out his website, you’ll see that he produces exceptional pictures.
I highly recommend that you have him for your engagement/​wedding photos!

Jan Garcia Photography shot my wedding last year. Their prices aren’t cheap, but you definitely get quality in return for the price you pay. During the events, they were professional, took great pictures, and stayed out of the way of guests while still capturing all our precious moments.
