Saw the great reviews online so my sister and I decided to give the place a try. TERRIBLE. The service was okay, but the food was terrible. The rolls were overly covered with sauce; maybe to hide the low quality of fish and old rice. Let’s just say when you get raw fish that is supposed to be red and on your place it’s brown, then something is wrong.

I stopped in to this just to see what they offered while I was visiting in town. I noticed sukiyaki and hadn’t had that in a while so I decided to stay for lunch. Upon requesting the dish, was told they didn’t have any and were all out. It was 1pm on a Saturday and it wasn’t busy. They then recommended an udon because it was closest to Sukiyaki(it isn’t). Alas, this too, they were out of. Since I already sat to eat, I decided to go ahead and try the tekka maki(tuna roll). I also asked if they have ponzu, unfortunately they didn’t. I like ponzu better with sushi personally but not holding it against them. I got my order promptly. My main issue and it could be due to being in Central Valley but tuna had more of a greyish tinge to it instead of the nice pink to red color. The roll was a little warm which was a little unexpected. Overall, ok at best. Probably a 3 star if it weren’t for them being out of a menu item then suggesting another only to be out of that as well. Oh well.

Read good reviews in Google so we decided to stop by. I ordered the sushi and sashimi combo. I was very disappointed with the quality of the fish, the rice, and the salad. The miso soup was served after we finished main course. I would not be coming back and would not recommend this place. I was glad that there was a Baskin Robbin close to it. I really needed the ice cream to cleanse my palete.

Food was good but service was horrendous. We walked in expecting to get greeted but was not acknowledge. They even saw us walk in. We ended just seating ourselves. The waitress had a vibe that she didn’t want to be working. In no ways was she even close to friendly. Horrible service. Probably won’t be back.

We found the place online everything was pretty good the food was really good we definitely would go back service was just ok but I have definitely seen worse and we’re really there for the food. great selection! Large portions. I really hate to say it although nice if they had a better waitress they would have gotten a 5-star review…

I came in after reading some of the bad reviews about the service for this place. I was a little skeptical. But after trying out the sushi, it was mind blowing! The fish was really fresh and I can not believe how cheap a roll is. Everything came out fast and service was quick. I’ll be coming back here soon!

This was the first sushi place I went on my own to. I love most sushi and this one was really good. At the time I went with a friend and we both were a bit surprised that the portions seemed a tad smaller than prior. It is a good place to go but not my favorite.

WARNING: This is a very long and in depth review. Skip to the bottom if you just want the pros and cons. Otherwise I hope you enjoy this review. This is my first review ever. So I live in Merced which is 25 minutes away from Turlock and did my research for the best sushi places near me. I saw that this place had the highest rating so I decided to give it a try. I have never eaten sushi at a sushi restaurant before, so I wanted my first time to be a great one. I took my girlfriend on Valentine’s Day(2÷14÷16) and there were some open seats surprisingly. I was expecting it to be packed since it was Valentine’s Day, but maybe it was just the time that I got there.(I got there around 5:30pm.) The shop is quite small, with a maximum occupancy of no more than 18 – 20 customers. It was a hassle to squeeze through, even the waiter couldn’t squeeze through to tend to the tables. So when you go into the restaurant, you basically seat yourself. The employees and owners did not greet us or even acknowledge us. I chose to sit on the stools right in front of the owners, where they roll the sushi in front of the customers. At the time they had only one waiter working, so it took about 6 – 7 minutes just to get our menus and even longer to get our water. They have a huge variety of different sushi rolls, with a description of everything that is in it, so you will always know what you are eating. I ordered the Countryside sushi roll, and the Sasmi special(or something like that). It was my first time eating sushi at a restaurant and it certainly won’t be my last. The sushi was really good, I especially loved how there were fried battered shrimp in the sushi roll. The only thing that I did not enjoy about the sushi was the amount of cream cheese that he put inside of the sushi roll, as I get a bit sick after eating a lot of cheese. The cream cheese is just my preference though, as some people like more cream cheese and I was just one of those people who preferred less. To be quite honest with you, I would not know how great sushi tastes like because prior to this I have never eaten sushi at a restaurant before, but I can say as a skeptic on sushi, I enjoyed everything I ate in this restaurant. I came into this restaurant thinking that I dislike sushi but I left enjoying it. I won’t say that I love sushi, because I don’t. But I can say that I would not mind eating sushi every once in a while. Anyways, while we were eating our sushi, the owner(husband) asked if we like the sushi, which I don’t mind him asking at all because it shows me that he cares about what his customers think about his quality of food and work. His wife also asked if everything is alright with us. I also ordered a dinner plate, which consisted of battered shrimp and fish.(On the menu they said squid as well but I did not get any.) I do not recommend the dinner plate. All I got on the plate was rice, a cheap salad with ranch dressing, tasteless battered fish and shrimp, and a little bowl of miso soup. I also ordered desert. The only desert item on their menu is mochi ice cream, which is a little flour ball with ice cream inside. The mochi ice cream cost $ 1.99 each, and it was basically one bite. The mochi ice cream can be bought at an oriental store in a pack of 6 for $ 5. I know this because I buy them all the time. Sorry for the long review, I just wanted to share with you my full experience but I will break everything down for you along with some pros and cons: If you are thinking about going to eat at Samurai Sushi, just go for the sushi. Just do it. I would have rated their restaurant a 3.5 but they don’t do halves, hence the four stars. I would definitely come back to eat sushi here. I didn’t give them a perfect rating because of the size of their store, and also because of their expensive prices. I did not include my poor experience with the desert and the dinner plate because it is a sushi restaurant so it’s understandable that they only specialize in sushi. Pros: — Great sushi and huge selection. — Descriptive menus so that you know what you are eating. — Friendly owners. — Fast service. Cons: — Expensive($ 50 for two sushi rolls, one dinner plate, and two mochi ice cream balls.) — Small restaurant with little space to move.

Definitely going to be a frequent customer here. Loved the warm homey feeling of this place. Every customer was greeted by the whole staff as they walked in and wished a good day on their way out. I have read the negative reviews on the service and food but it seems like it has stepped up since then. Our waitress was constantly checking on our table and clearing it of dirty plates that we finished with and kept up with our demand of thirst. I am VERY picky with sushi and I give this place a thumbs up. Very fast service but at the same time you can taste the«love» in every roll. If you are in the Turlock area I definitely recommend Samurai Sushi and if in Modesto I would visit Raw Sushi. PS: My friends and I got the Countryside roll, the Elizabeth roll and the 007 roll with a side of the combination friend tempura. Mmm good! SIDENOTE: I dropped my Burberry wallet that had about $ 150 in cash in it without knowing it fell out of my pocket and the waitress did not hesitate to pick it up and give it back to me! Thank you for the great food and hospitality!

The waitresses were impatient and rude. The dishes were puny and overpriced. The bento box had a choice of two combinations, I ordered the shrimp tempura and tempura mix. There are way better sushi restaurants in Turlock. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

Eh this place has the potential to be good but very shitty service. I was visiting the area and wanted sushi so my cousin took me out to eat. We came to this restaurant, walked in and we were the only customers. We were seated right away but it took our server more than 15 minutes to come by so that I can order a drink. I noticed the place was super quiet. I saw tv’s and I kindly asked if they played any music and our server gave me an attitude and said no. I was very surprised that she gave me the face that she did because I honestly asked very nicely in the case that maybe they didn’t play music. Anyways things got worse. I love sushi and theirs was pretty good(which takes a lot for me to say because I know good quality sushi) except for the fact that I could immediately tell that the fish was not cold. It felt room temperature(almost all places I go to serve cold cuts of fish unless it’s fried). My sister and I had this issue before at a different place in Santa Cruz and she kindly asked if they had colder fish and in that case they did and gladly replaced our rolls. Here I asked kindly and in return I got an attitude the server said it is cold after I had said that I felt the fish was on the warmer side and wanted to know if they had colder fish. She ran to the back and I could hear her telling her mom with an attitude that I was complaining about the temperature of the fish. She made me sound like I was being a prick but I totally wasn’t. Her mom then came by and she handled the situation fine except that towards the end she started to get an attitude and so I told her I wasn’t complaining, I simply wanted to know if they had colder fish. Whatever the server was being a b***. If I had been by myself, I would have honestly walked out of this place without paying. The food was good but the service was horrible. Perhaps this restaurant should consider being a take-out only sushi place. It is a shame. They need to fire their daughter, she’s ruining the place.

Customer service is great. They’re always very polite. I love the California rolls and teriyaki chicken bowls. Always perfect and delicious. I can’t vouch for anything else cause this is all I ever get! But I’m sure everything is great.

Not my favorite place ever :( I came in with four friends and we had 3 others that were meeting us. My 3 friends were very late and server would not come to table… not even 30 minutes later when our friends showed up. While I’m dying of thirst the young lady server finally comes over to the table asking us for our order. Okay!!! Hasn’t taken my drink order yet but it’s cool we’ve been looking at the menu for an hour so we know what we want. I order 2 appetizers and a couple rolls and soup. We wait & wait some more, And everything comes out at once :(On top of that my niece had to ask again for water. I was not happy because I ordered miso soup and didn’t get it :/my rolls were good but the Sashimi was stingy. I ordered the smaller item but tiny portions and bad white fish did not make me any happier. No service whatsoever during the meal. No refills on drinks, not once even coming close to the table to get her attention. I wanted another roll but oh well everyone was done and ready to leave by the time we got her attention. And I’m not quiet, she totally either is deaf or on purpose ignored me. I expect the latter. Will not be back and if it’s a young lady serving you won’t want to either. The nicest person there was a sweet older lady.

Not what I expected and also what I paid for the food was way too much for what I got. I ordered a boat of sashimi and it looked good from a distance. Great looking item but when it got to the table it turned out to be more like salad with very little fish. That’s suppose to be for two people but not really. Fish was very small and they told me it was 30 plus pieces … Not really. Please don’t get me wrong. Fish was good just not worth what I paid for… Service was ok. We had to keep asking for things other restaurants usually bring to the table before you get the food. Nice little place but the storage under seats was a little different. My daughter had to move for them to get can goods out to use… Overall I don’t think I’ll go there again but if I do, they have a great chicken plate with a sauce that’s the bomb!!!

Best sushi you’ll find anywhere in the valley. I’ve visited sushi places all over the state, and every one in the Turlock area, and Samurai Sushi is by far my favorite. This restaurant should be rated higher, but unfortunately they have fallen victim to Unilocal’s pay-for-positive-reviews extortion scam after not paying up and receiving a slew of negative reviews.

Best sushi around! We are regulars here. Small cozy place. The owners, Jinsan & Moon are wonderful. My Way Roll is my favorite but I always try to get something new.
