This is that perfect middle-of-the-road pizza. It’s leaps better than the Pizza Hut across the street(good grief, don’t go there! They improvise on the Pizza Hut standards and call them«local favorites» … how they get away with it, I have no idea). Here, the crust has great«play» … never soggy, never rubbery. The cheese is thick and melty. The sauce has just the right burst of acid. And, it’s all cooked to golden perfection. These aren’t life-changing slices. But, they are good enough. And, with so much bad pizza in this area, «good» is almost awesome. Now, if you are not from the general area(or not just passing through), this is NOT the kind of place you want to road-trip to(it’s like any«best» so-so pizza in any given town. And, the locals are a bit more than one can tolerate … we are talking big olé pick-up trucks, loud dopey conversations and camo clothing. We take out. Always). Still, if you are nearby and seeking a good slice, you might find it here.

Where do I start with Pompei’s. They’ve been here forever, at least as long as I can remember. I’ve always loved their pizza. You can’t go wrong here. The Stromboli and sandwiches are really good as well. They’re very friendly. My only gripe is they are cash only. Not too big a deal, but it does bug me to have to stop at the atm every time.

This was our Friday night pizza joint growing up, and will always be what I compare all other pizza against. It’s a great pizza joint– homemade dough and sauce, quality ingredients with staff that care. I always make it a point to stop when I’m in town.
