Trained luthier, Jacob Mehlhouse opened Tulsa Strings Violin Shop in 2008 to better serve the area string players. The shop offers a large selection of fine instruments for the student to professional, bows, accessories, cases, & strings. We have a private studio to try out the instruments and bows. All instruments purchased at Tulsa Strings have been carefully selected and setup by a trained luthier with 15 years experience. The selection is the best in the area for price and quality. You can also trade in instruments purchased here for 80%, allowing you to keep your main investment and trade up with out losing value. We also purchase instruments and bows. Having served the Tulsa area players since 2000, Jacob Mehlhouse has a reputation of trustworthy practices, and skills that keep Tulsa Strings busy.

History

Established in 2008.

It is the goal of the shop to offer the best selection for the players at the lowest prices, to help keep local business local save the player’s time. Having worked at several shops, Jacob Mehlhouse has combined his experiences and skills to offer a friendly atmosphere for all players to visit and try out the best instruments on the market. The shop now fills 2000sq feet with a large showroom of instruments, bows, cases, accessories, strings and more. Tulsa Strings has the lowest prices on strings; they have no markup! Before opening Tulsa Strings, Jacob Mehlhouse was the shop foreman and luthier at Tulsa Violin for almost 5 years. Having been trained for repairs in Red Wing, MN, his skills were needed and he moved to Tulsa in 2000. After leaving TVS, Jacob Mehlhouse opened a repair business and soon the players were seeking him out. After a year the business grew and moved to its current location to accommodate the large selection of instruments and bows.

Trained luthier, Jacob Mehlhouse — Studied violin repair at Red Wing with Lisbeth Nelson Butler. Worked at several shops from 1995 – 2005, opening his own business in 2006, and later Tulsa Strings Violin Shop in 2008. Studied with noteworthy luthiers Horacio Pineiro and Amos Hargrave, and currently works with many different shops and makers. Currently the owner and repairman of Tulsa Strings providing hand selected bows and instruments setup and adjusted by himself. The shop has customers from nationwide, repairs are often sent in the mail to Tulsa Strings. The shop also works closely with several local school districts, private institutions, conservatories, colleges, and many symphony players & teachers. Tulsa Strings also has a large reference of local teachers that offer quality lessons at a reasonable rate.
