Welcome to Kang’s Institute of TaeKwon-​Do, Tulsa’s original TaeKwon-​Do school! We offer a clean, safe environment for men, women, and children to practice all tenants of Tae Kwon-​do. Kang’s Institute of TaeKwon-​Do has been helping our world return to authenticity through discipline for over 40 years.

Our mission is to serve as an educational learning center for practicing the fundamental principles of life. We believe that it’s important for children to establish and take control of their own lives by practicing good habits and making the right choices from early on. We also believe that in order to make this happen, parents must set a good example. If children are expected to learn respect, discipline, diet, and exercise, their parents must also practice the same thing in their own lives.

For that reason, it makes sense to practice TaeKwon-​Do as a family. By having the right synergy between instructor and parent, there is no limit to a child’s success. We are committed to the education of not only youngsters, but the entire family. TaeKwon-​Do is not only about self-​defense, but the lifelong pursuit of character development and self mastery.

History

Established in 1971.

Kang’s Institute of TaeKwon-​Do was established in 1971 by traditional Korean TaeKwon-​Do instructor and legendary Grand Master Kang Dong Won. In the early 70’s, Kang’s Institute of TaeKwon-​Do became a source of real, authentic, and unparalleled martial arts instruction. Kang became the talk of the town with his mysterious and incredible power, demonstrating the true meaning of the indomitable spirit with his never-​before seen flying jump kicks and lightning-​fast watermelon slicing. Kang’s Institute of TaeKwon-​Do has influenced countless students and has instilled real life skills that have molded many. Grandmaster Kangs’s students go on to change the world with the same indomitable spirit they learned from our floor. Kang’s Institute of TaeKwon-​Do is still under the direction of Grand Master Kang but has passed on the legacy of over 40 years in Tulsa to his first son Master Sung Kang and his second son, Master Bong Kang.

As an accomplished business man, lecturer, and natural healer, Dong Won Kang continues to have a positive influence over thousands of lives. As a Tae Kwon-​do Grandmaster, Dong Won Kang is a United States National Treasure. He is one of only a few ninth degree Black Belts in existence. Since 1971, Grandmaster Kang has produced over 5,000 Black belts. This requires at least five years of study and hard work from each student. Of these Black Belts, several have started their own schools while others have competed and won accolades throughout the world. But there is more to Grandmaster Kang than just kicking and hitting. Grandmaster is also responsible for instilling values in thousands of children, such as seeking responsibility, being accountable for one’s own actions, and never giving up. Grandmaster Kang’s students have learned Tae Kwon-​Do is a valuable key to successful living. It is a coveted key that, once earned, should be taken with them as they journey through life.
