Customer service at its BEST! My sister and I arrived in Seattle for a five day bike tour on 8÷15÷15. Upon opening our bike cases we quickly discovered that my bike had been damaged by TSA. Wanting to get our miles in that day we needed some quick help. We found Performance Bicycle in Tukwila (which is relatively close to the airport) and buzzed over there. The guys behind the service desk were amazing, quick, resourceful and not arrogant (which I find a lot of at bike shops). Next time we bike Seattle, we will always use them as our resource for anything bikes and will probably ship our bikes directly to them, have them assemble them, and get them ready for us. Also, a big shout and thanks to the guys behind the counter — my bike made it through the tour without any issues and we couldn’t have done it without you!

The 100% satisfaction guarantee is a huge win. For a newer cyclist the assortment of gear one has to try is daunting and because you can’t often tell how well something will work for you on mile 50, being able to ride with a new pair of shoes, bike shorts, or even a new bike and still return of it’s not perfect is a huge help.
I wanted to give a shout out to Mike for helping me select a new set of shoes and make a shoe return, even though I lost my receipt.

We have had quite the experience with purchasing our bikes. Its our first time getting away from cheap walmart level bikes and purchasing a better quality bike. Anything and everything that could go wrong in the purchasing process has.
However, this review is mainly about two of the employees. One of the managers Annie, and an employee named Dakota have been sincerely helpful and informative. They have gone the extra mile to right the wrongs. They have been patient, cheery and helpful. They have both spent ample time assisting us and getting things taken care of.
We do love our bikes now that things have been amended and mostly resolved. We are not avid bikers, but look forward to enjoying our bikes for years to come.
For the sake of customer service, please work on updating your website to reflect more accurate inventory available. I got my heart set on a bike shown on the webiste, that wasn’t actually available anywhere.

I have bought parts, clothes, and tools here — to the tune of thousands of dollars. No bikes or mechanical work. So with that in mind — This place has great variety, friendly /​knowledgeable staff and frequent sales /​clearances. The staff frequently goes the extra mile to find me a part (calling other stores, etc), help carry stuff to the car (saw a mechanic last night helping a guy put on his new tow hitch bike carrier), recommend items and help you find what you need. I will definitely keep coming back. Watch out for sales! You can get most stuff for 20% off if you are willing to wait.

Purchased replacement tubes for my bike at the Tacoma store and had a stem failure on the rear, Anthony at the Tukwila store took a quick look and showed me the problem. In about 5 Mins he replaced the tube also checked the rim and tire for any potential problems. Fast and cheerful service. Woo! Thanks Anthony!

Several years ago I purchased a bike from another outfit. Part of the deal was free tune ups for the life of the bike. However, the bike’s gears never worked properly and the outfit was never able to fix it. They’d give me a free «tune up» which would fix the problem for a few rides, then everything would start all over again. I even begged this place to repair the bike for a price, but no luck. Even with offering to pay, my bike was never repaired. Therefore, I took my bike to Performance and they diagnosed the many problems and fixed them for a very reasonable price. (Even coming in under the quoted price.) My bike now rides like it never has.exceptionally. I feel like I have a real bike now and am very grateful for it. Thank you Performance Bicycle!

Ben, the store manager, was extremely helpful and accommodating in helping me find the right bike. Would definitely recommend.

Went in last night (4÷15÷14) at 5:40 and could not get waited on. One employee inthralled with busy work behind the register, made eye contact, then waved me off and then he did it again to another customer that came in after me. We both commented at the bizarreness of the situation, and at that point I left the store. Two other employees were less then attentive, e.g. could have acknowledge they would assist once done with their current tasks. …Retail clerking 101. This unprofessionalism reinforces the grease monkey image that bicycle shops have tried hard to shed. Giving 2-​stars, instead of one, in hopes this was an anomaly.

I have been a Performance/​Nashbar/​Colorado Cyclist customer for many years. Now in my mid 60’s I raced *hard* nationally in the mid 70’s and never stopped riding for personal bpleasure to this day. I have purchased 5 bikes and one frame from Performance, all have been TOP Quality bikes. The Latest is a Performance Cross Frame. The Cross Frame came with dented head tube (clearly shipping damage and no fault of Performance). Eric took the frame in and Todd immediately ordered and shipped a replacement. When it arrived they helped me with a headset bearing race that needed «pursuasion» and the «you know-​special» tool when putting it together. Traditionally a customer of the Redmond store, I have turned to the convenience of the Tukwila store. Todd, Eric (‘s) and the rest of the staff have been absolutely great to me. They take time, are interested in my needs and point me to great deals on a regular basis. I have been building bikes and wheels for years and find quality in their service and staff when I NEED it. at last count 14 bikes in the bike bay. I will remain a solid customer for Performance.

Performance Bicycle in Tukwila needs to be on the top of your places when shopping around for a mountain, road, city/​commuter or kid’s bike. The staff are genuinely interested in helping customers, go the extra mile willingly, don’t pressure you to buy and also are amazingly patient. I know this from taking several days to decide between two bikes and repeated test rides (Note, I did buy one of them a few days later).
I’m comparing this store against other Performance Stores, REI, Gregg’s (Alderwood and Greenlake), Harvy’s and other local shops that are not specialty specific such as some mountain bike or road bike stores.
I particularly like this store because:
1. Gone in several times in two weeks to ride the same bikes to figure out which one I’d buy GT Sensor vs. GT Zaskar (I bought a GT Sensor 9R yesterday) and didn’t get crap for it.
2. The staff absolutely try to help and are patient with customers. I don’t see it much at the other Performance stores except in Seattle and Lynnwood (Matt does a great job there).
3. Bikes of all different types of price points; from $ 200 up to about $ 2000.
What I like particularly about this shop:
The service department has a couple of stools while you wait. Feels like a bar in a sort of way.
What would make this place the ultimate:
1. If there was a true test area and not a parking lot but that’s asking for a lot given we’re in the Seattle area.
Good products to purchase:
1. Their 2-​year service plan is fantastic for those that race/​ride frequently.
2. Membership for the frequent shopper. One point equals one cent. I’m at 150 pennies!
Why go?
1. If you’re looking for a quality bike, not the poor assembly you will likely find at a Target, Wal Mart, or other big box store, this is your mecca. It’s good people, a clean and well stocked place and you aren’t treated like royalty, you’re simply treated like a friend wanting to buy a bike and that’s right about the perfect atmosphere.
Don’t go if:
1. You’re a professional cyclist, I’d to go Herriott Sport Performance since that’s a cycling pro-​shop that can’t be beat even by Cycle-​U!
2. You’re a true triathlon competitor. Go to Speedy Reedy.
3. BMX’er. Tim’s Bike Shop in Everett is super good.
4. You’re a trials rider. See NW Trials owned by Brian Corman.

Kudos to Ben and Ty! Purchased two beach bikes and helped us save money with points that had not been posted because of July 4 weekend. They went the extra mile. Love this shop.

Ben was awesome helping me with a new pair of cycling shorts. He steered me to some ultra bib shorts and explained the virtues of bibs. Took them out for a 60 mi. ride the next day and they were super comfortable. So far I love everything about them especially the leg grippers. Thanks Ben.

I have been into this store now many times. As someone training up for the STP, I am in need on a fairly regular basis for small and large items alike, and the people at Performance never fail to impress me. Ben and Bill specifically have helped me more times than I can count, and have never let me down. They have always answered my questions with enough information to allow me to feel educated, and have helped me make many decisions regarding the accessorizing of my bike and myself. Even when I spent an hour in there just asking questions and having my bike adjusted Ben never left my side, and I didn’t even spend a dollar that day. When I have my bike needs I go to Performance. Between the service I’ve experienced, the consistantly low prices, and the fantastic selection I just don’t shop anywhere else!

Walked in the door at 7 not aware of new hours and was stopped quickly. Just wanting to pick up my wifes bike after being tuned and told to come back another day. Really, I can’t just pick up the bike? It’s paid for but hey I guess my time and gas money are not any of your concern.

If you wonder why, to date, there are now 2 poor reviews and 4 excellent reviews, let me explain.
In the past I had received excellent service at this store. They have pretty good deals on nutrition, and when you need certain parts/​accessories for your bike, they are a decent place to go, particularly if you are on a budget.
That being said, I went in a couple days ago to replace some pedals I had that had a safety recall on them. These pedals are only sold by Performance (Forte). A previous salesman I had dealt with several times before was very helpful and said that I could bring them in after the STP (which was only a couple days away), and they would swap the pedals out for the replacements, or make some other arrangements for the recall.
I took my bike in, and unfortunately had to deal with some guy I’d never dealt with before (his name tag said «David»). This guy clearly had no interest in helping me. He started by asking if I still had the box the pedals came in. Like most people, I don’t keep boxes/​packaging on items I didn’t spend much money on. He then acted as if I couldn’t find the paper on the recall. I recognized it as the one IN HIS HAND when he had pulled it out of the drawer & put it back in as if he didn’t see it (???).
Eventually this guy helped me out, but was obviously in no hurry to be helpful.
The mechanic that put the new pedals on my bike (without charging me to remove the old ones and put the new ones on) was great.

I just updated this review… Originally I had given it 1 star. I have since had some good experiences, both in terms of helpfulness and price at the Tukwila location, so I want to edit my review accordingly. I am hoping this location continues the trend and proves to be a quality place for cyclists of all ages and abilities to shop.

I have had pretty good service from here but I called today in a bind and asked if they could fix a front dérailleur and they told me 2 – 4 weeks?!? I asked if they could help me out since I didn’t want to wait 2 – 4 weeks to ride my bike and the guy said sorry, every bike shop is all backed up because of the STP and I was essentially out of luck. He didn’t seem like he really cared or wanted to help. I’m not their biggest customer but I probably spent $ 500 there over the last 12 months, never again.
I called Woodinville bike shop and they got me in, said it would be 2 days to get me in and out. They are way out of the way for me but last time I took my bike there they did a tune up for $ 25 less than Performance and also cleaned the bike. Performance does not clean your bike when you do a tune up unless you pay an extra fee. I will be driving to Woodinville for bike repairs and service going forward, they definitely have the right attitude.

Great customer service. They’re very busy and you’ll have to schedule two weeks in advance for maintenance/​repair work on bikes. However, they accomodated me and allowed me to bring in my bike. They’ll try to squeeze it in their schedule.
I don’t know anything about bikes. One of the guys there spent about an hour explaining it to me.
He told me that he doesn’t work on commission, so I shouldn’t feel any pressure to buy anything. They even let me take one of their high end bikes out for a ride.
I looked around other bike shops and they do have the best prices around. I ended up buying a bike from them.

I been going to this PB location ever since they open for business. Before that I went to various LBS, REI and PB in the U-​district (parking suck!). I find the services provided at the Tukwila branch to be the best. The staff are very friendly and easy going. Especially with the service dept manager, Eric. He is very easy to talk to, always give me the best recombination and even had me into the service area for some maintenance education on my bike.
I tried to go to my LBS because I believe in supporting local businesses in your neighborhood. But somehow, I can’t find one that are friendly and I don’t feel intimidated if I want to ask a question. Moreover, they make me feel very welcome when I’m there. For that reason, I only go back to this location even though it is out of my way. It goes to show that good service can goes a long way.

When it comes to bike shops I tend to lean towards smaller shops because I have this idea that the customer service is better. I wandered into PB for an accessory and ended up chatting away with Eric in the shop. I ended up going back a few times in the same week for various reasons. The Erics (there’s two!) helped get me get fitted into my bike and shared a lot of bike wisdom with me without making me feel patronized and foolish! I ended up having a little work done on my bike and the pricing was fair.
I’ve received bad customer service before and bike stuff can be intimidating if you’re first starting out. Anyway, for a «larger» bike shop I was very impressed by the excellent customer service and knowledge from the staff. It really was the kind of customer service that will keep me going back!
Pricing for accessories is competitive and reasonable compared to other bike shops. Selection is also pretty decent.
I initially went into Performance Bicycle because of the location and available parking.

I have intended to write a review for Performance’s newish store in Tukwila. I have bought a couple accessories, had my bike serviced, and just poked around while my wife had her nails done next store. Each time the staff has been very friendly, and strives to answer questions, even if they know you are not buying anything.
I recently had a tune up done on my bike, and had it packed for shipping in a box to take on a trip. Despite the fact it was an off brand, cheapo, the mechanic treated me as if I had brought in a high end bike I had purchased from them.
Recently, my bike was stolen. I went in a couple times looking at new bikes, they were very good at providing information, and were not pressuring me at all. Ultimately, I ended up buying a Fuji Newest 1.0, and am very excited to put some miles on it.
Performance has proven that you don’t need to put up with snotty LBS attitude, and pay higher prices, for quality advice and products. I will gladly continue to shop here!
