I’m disappointed about my service at this location. Got a fill for my eyelashes here two weeks ago. My eyelashes were so sparse by the end of the two weeks. Called to speak to someone at this location and they said the technician would call me back. I received no call. So I went to another eyelash bar and got a fill. The lady there said I barely had any extension to fill because it was so sparse. I payed $ 92 for a full fill that was barely there. I’m sad I wasted a gift card here. My full set from the Bellevue location was done beautifully by Basilia. Southcenter needs to step up their service!

First of all 5 stars to the stylist here who has been cutting my hair for over 10 years!!! Staff here has always been very professional.
If I could give zero stars to Gene Juarez corporate I would. Next time you schedule a service pay close attention to the $ 1-​$ 2 extra charge for «recycling» which this 40 year old company apparently has just begun doing in October 2015. Yes it is only a few dollars but seriously? You are a little too late to the party and are hitting your customers with a fee for what your company should should have been doing for years.

I thought I’d try someone new as I have been driving to downtown Seattle for several years now. I called to make an appointment and specifically asked for a senior level stylist. What I got was an absolutely horrible haircut! You would think a senior level stylist would know what they’re doing but not in this case. I have a medium amount of fine shoulder length hair and now I have half the amount of hair after the stylist took a razor to it and cut off about 3 inches. The ends are so thin all they do is fuzz up. She told me the trend is shorter with lots of movement. Well there is no movement because there isn’t enough hair on the ends to create any weight. An experienced stylist should know that using a razor on my texture of hair is a no no! By the time I realized what she was doing it was too late and quite frankly I thought she must know what she’s doing being at the senior level. When she was blow drying and styling she kept putting layers and layers of product on saying we need to change the texture of the hair. I kept thinking my hair is my hair and I can’t change it into something it’s not. I am so upset with this cut that I’m embarrassed to see anyone. I am desperate to go back to my regular stylist in Seattle to try to fix it but she is on vacation. Guess I’ll just wear a bag over my head for the next 2 weeks. Not sure if anything can be done at this point besides let it grow.
FYI — My regular stylist left Gene Juarez 3 years ago due to the decline of business practices and quality of management since they sold out to investors who know zilch about running a hair salon.

I should have believed the dozens of other terrible reviews on this salon. I was booked with Alex for a balayage and right off the bat her lack of professionalism made me uncomfortable. She walked out to the small waiting area and SHOUTED out my name. I felt like I was at Starbucks, not a professional salon and spa! I was not greeted politely or even with a smile! I ended up walking out of my appointment before the service even started because she did not make me comfortable and honestly made me feel unwanted. So I will happily take my $ 200 else where!

They do such an amazing job. I love when they give you a scalp massage when your getting the deep tissue massage. Whenever I go in there I feel so much better… They make you feel special…

I arrived five minutes late to my appointment only to find a line of customers waiting to check in with no one staffing the counter. I waited for TEN minutes for someone to check me in for my wax appointment. When my appointment finally started my esthetician informed me that since I was 15 minutes late to my appointment that we were «really going to need to hustle» and that she wouldn’t be able provide me with a full service experience. She also said that because things would need to be quick that she wasn’t going to be gentle. Huh? I admit I was five minutes late but I didn’t deserve to be chastised and provided subpar service because the spa doesn’t properly staff their front desk. One experience at this salon/​spa was one too many.

I got a full balayage, and the lady doing my hair came 20 minutes late. She was very friendly and nice but she left the color on a few pieces going completely straight across, which made it look kind of cheap. Along with that it was also very yellow. She didn’t ask me what shade of blonde I wanted or anything. It looks good but I was expecting more for the price I paid…

Decided to try Gene Juarez for a pedicure. Arrived on time for a 12:30 pm appointment. Checked in and sat for 25 minutes. Finally went back to the front desk, asked about my appointment. Front desk person ran back to check. Oh, she’s just about done, just a few more minutes. I could not wait so left. Not coming back. Make realistic appointments and if the pedicurist is running late, let the waiting client know. Basic customer service.

I was here a couple sundays ago for a Shellac mani. It was great. Didn’t last as long as others I have had done, but it was ok.
Why the one star? Well let me tell you. The nail part of the spa is shared with the facial waxing bar. As I was sitting and getting my nails done I watched the Esthetician double dip on every client. DISGUSTING. Imagine rubbing your freshly waxed face on a stranger’s freshly waxed face. Sound gross? Because it is. It is also against Washington State Cosmetology Board laws. For almost $ 50 for a brow and lip wax, you think they could spare the cost to use more sticks and not double dip for the health and safety of their clients. Makes you wonder, if they are willing to do that right out in the open, what disgusting habits are they doing behind the scenes?
So yeah, that completely ruined my whole relaxing nail appointment.

I’ve been to this location before. I had a great haircut and color the first time. But the second time which was today, I came in and didn’t get serviced. The front desk booked me for the wrong service when I specifically told her that I needed a color correction and a balyage. I just find this very inconvenient with bad customer service because there was nothing they could do besides say «sorry». Not to mention they were 20 mins late for my 2:00 appointment. I most definitely will never return to Gene Juarez because this isn’t a way to treat your client when it’s completely not there fault. Why would a client who’s booked for services has to reschedule? Janet was really nice and apologized for the situation even though it was completely out of her control. But the gal who booked my appointment was stupid and wasted my fucken time.

I usually am not one to complain but I’ve paid ten dollars for a better haircut. I had my hair trimmed about two weeks ago and yesterday was the first time I straightened my hair since it was cut. it was immediately clear that the layers in my hair looked as though the women plucked random chunks of hair and cut them bluntly off. I previously had my layers feathered and Indiscrete into the bottom six inches of my hair. As she was blow drying my hair I reminded her that I had asked for feathered ends and no blunt cuts, she told me that she was sorry but couldn’t go back since she had already partially dried it. I initially was a little annoyed but let it go assuming it was only the bottom of my hair she had left blunt, now seeing she left blunt chops of hair all over my head i’m very disappointed. I expected more from gene Juarez.

Chanel or Khanh for nails, they let you relax during the service instead of making you talk. They also do a thorough job and both are sweet!

This place just doesn’t have it together. Called this morning to ask if I need an appt for a bang trim — the answer is, «nope, just come on in». A normal response since most salons operate this way. However, I drive down from Burien and am told, «we can’t get you in right now. We won’t have anything open for another 2.5 hours». Seriously!?! Get it together. You either need an appt or you don’t. Apparently I need to find a new salon that can accommodate a 5 minute bang trim for a current client.

Unfortunately I’m giving a one star today to a company that has always been solid and my trusted spa and salon.
My boyfriend sent me to Gene Juarez for a nice 2 hour mani/​pedi session for Valentines Day today. After 2+ hours with the nail specialist, I was rushed out before my nail polish had a chance to dry, even while asking the nail tech «are you sure we’re done» as she was holding my bags in her hand shooing me off. At this point I also had to let her know that she forgot to spray my nails down. My nails are a disaster. I also specifically pointed out an issue of a broken nail that needed some repair, which was completely left unfixed and is snagging everything I touch right now. Sadly I need to get my nails properly done again!
Gene Juarez has a high standard of quality but that was not met today. At this point, I’m embarrassed to even show these nails. GJ you failed today.

Started off bad. First I called and inquired about booking a full foil appointment with someone who was experienced and specifically with ethnic thick long hair. They recommended a couple different ladies, I settled on Amy. When I arrived they informed me I was with Camille. I really wanted to get my hair done so I did not protest the change without my consent. I completely regret it. I am extremely disappointed with how my hair turned out! I wanted to keep the blonde, because it had taken me a year to get to that ideal shade. My stylist toned my hair so dark! And now it is a reddish brown, which is nowhere near what I wanted! :(
Now I need to start the process over again.
I would not recommend booking here, or at the very least book with someone who has many years experience and can listen to what the client wants.

I’ve only been here for a cut, colour, bleach and tone, and treatment, so I can’t speak on behalf of the spa or whatever else, however I think most salons, unless they –really– mess up is always a ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ chance of working with you or not. It’s not the stylists fault (though it definitely can be) if your haircut comes out different — you have to tell them or show them, but be realistic with what your hair can actually do. That being said, sometimes a stylist has a different style than you and some people do things better than others for sure. You just have to find the person who understands you.
Luckily for me Willow was amazing at computing my hair. She’s very cute and friendly as well! She tried so hard to get my hair to do what I wanted it to (which trust me, was hard with how damaged and two toned it was) and it still came out looking good. It’s definitely a process in my case though, and I believe she has done everything she could to get it to look as good as it can with what she was given.
Jacob is also great with what I was looking for — at first it was a little rough because I had to deal with having a bob like cut that was still very heavy and thick, but I was scheduled for another appointment for a month later anyway because I needed to get my hair recoloured — ergo, needed it cut as well. That wait was difficult and the thickness was almost painful, but I lived through it and when I went back it’s definitely much lighter and more to my liking. It’s not perfect, but I do think he’s understanding what I’m looking for more and more.
From what I saw of other stylists, it seemed like they were all very helpful and trying to get exactly what their client wanted as well — though some customers seemed a little difficult, you could tell the stylists were doing their best and I applaud them for that.
I only give this place four stars however, because for some reason the customer service via phone has never been very good for me. its really loud, which I can understand since its in a mall, but it’s always been people who sound like they don’t care. But! when you go in store and see the receptionists in person, everyone is super friendly and helpful. It could just be who is in that day, but if you have a chance to actually go in and consult someone before hand in person (if a stylist is available you can even talk to someone I think! I did!) I definitely recommend that, and someone can give you recommendations to dk what you’re looking for. (classic, edgy, short, long, etc)
(typical)tldr; if it’s convenient for you to go here, try it out, but try to go in person rather than on phone if you’re able to. Also they use olaplex (less breakage when bleaching) and kerastase (my favourite hair care), which are both top notch.

My parents have recently dropped their services at this Gene Juarez location because the customer service has gone downhill, and unfortunately I had to have a bad experience also… It was my birthday a few days ago and I scheduled a Custom Massage with Hot Stones last month for September 14^th. They called my house phone saying I was unable to have the original appointment because the lady was leaving the salon.
Few days later they left a message on my phone saying they had an available appointment the same day but at a later time, which I couldn’t attend because of another appointment in Tacoma, the same day at 4pm. I finally called them back today to find out that I was never booked for September 14^th and there wasn’t an available appointment for me on the 16^th either!!! I was so furious and disappointed. the fact that I wanted a massage for my birthday month, to find out I wasn’t even scheduled is so outrageous. I AM SO DONE WITH THIS GENE JUAREZ LOCATION. this is not the only time they have done this…
A few months ago I scheduled a custom massage on the phone with an added service.
I came in on my appointment day to find out the added service wasn’t available at the Southcenter location… YOU WOULD THINK THE LADY ON THE PHONE WOULD TELL ME THAT… so I was just looking at the lady like are you serious?! So i said forget and just left.
Two strikes, you’re out Gene Juarez. You need some help, sorry not sorry I will never be back here for services.

I will not be back again. Second time I’ve had a crappy haircut here that is uneven and/​or not what I asked for. Had to go back for a second time to get the cut straightened out, thinned out like I had asked, and the girl who did the touch up said the layering was horrible and had to redo most of it. It’s about 2 inches shorter than I wanted to go, very very upset. Will be in search of a new salon, this place is not what it’s said to be unfortunately. I’ve given this place 2 tries after being referred by numerous people — never again.

Sorry for the long rant but I have been a customer with Gene Juarez for about 10 years now, started in Seattle then moved to this location so I have a good idea how things work around here. I have tried almost all of their services and have lots of grey hair so I have to come in for a color quite frequently. I like the quality of their hair color as it doesn’t dry my hair, I always add on a treatment for the extra strength and shine. I have had some great colorists over the years and I am not too picky about who does my all over color as you can’t really go wrong with that other than getting color all over your skin which seems to be pretty typical here. I really liked Willow for balyage! If you have dark hair just know that you will most likely to have to go in for a few tries before you get your desired lighter color.
The reason I am not giving this salon more stars is because over the years I have seen a big downturn in quality of their stylists. I highly suggest to sticking to the artist you like (if you’re lucky to find one). The problem is either your schedules don’t align or that artist unfortunately doesn’t work there anymore or moves to a different position in the company (story or my GJ life lol). Because of this, I have been trying to be loyal to GJ and give different artists a try until I find ‘the one’ but honestly even their higher level stylists give just average haircuts, and the lowest level stylists I would steer clear of unless you want to walk out crying.
It’s 2015 and the ‘LOB’ is posted all over the net and magazines as the ‘haircut of the year’. Seems like GJ missed out on this trend as I made an appointment with a new stylist as the one I wanted was unavailable. I brought pictures, read explanations on how to cut the hair, asked to be longer than collar bone when curled, and a bit shorter in the back with very long feathery layers. NOT soccer mom bob! The lady kept repeating BOB the whole time, and that’s when I got worried and made sure to correct her that the L was for long, long layers. I basically ended up with what I told her I did not want, a bob with short layers! My hair ends above the collar bone when straight, very short layers, and worst of all is that I have a BIG GAP, a section of just layers and no hair underneath! Now I have to either wear my hair curled, pinned up all the time, or behind my ears.
I’m not one to complain and am a very patient person but this is defiantly not the first time that this happened and for sure it will not be the last if I continue to go to this salon! I know hair grows and I have tried getting bad haircuts fixed in the past and honestly even the new stylist who tried to fix it was shocked at how butchered my hair was!
In my 10 year experience with Gene Juarez, I found that it is a typical neighborhood salon where new artist come to get their experience. All the artists are taught to stay on the safe side with average ‘girl next door’ haircuts and color. If you ever want anything on the edgier side, this is not the place to go as you will end up disappointed. Unfortunately after all the years of trying many different artists, good and bad, I feel like I have given GJ more than enough chances. My most recent expedience has truly been so disappointing that my relationship with the salon ends here.

I came in for a deep tissue massage and had a very bizarre experience with the women who was getting me checked in.
She did not introduce herself or her role, but said «come on, I’m going to show you were to change.» And so she did. After I was changed and sitting near the fire, she came up from behind me and without saying a word and placed a neck pillow on me. She may be new and need some extra training.
My experience took a turn for the better when I met the massage therapist, Janice. She introduced herself and was very kind. She worked my trouble areas and even taught me some stretches to do at home. She did a great job and I will be back to see her soon! :)
