I was searching the internet for something to do in Tucson(6÷5÷15) and the Wee Gallery came up in the search. I copied the link. The next day, a Saturday, I was at the gallery minutes after they opened for the day at 11am. It took a while to locate the gallery even though I was familiar with the building the gallery is in. We finally figured out that we needed to enter, from the street, through Ozma Atelier, a great little vintage shop. The show that had caught my attention was Marcy Miranda Janes. She does amazing paper cuttings. Nature is a common subject for Marcy Miranda Janes but her work is also psychological. It is multilayered both literally and figuratively. Even though the galley is small, very small, wee, it really uses the small space well. The paper cuttings in particular are very detailed and intricate. The small space invites you to get close to the artwork. I believe that it is worth making a special trip downtown to see the Wee Gallery. However, there are other art galleries in the area, within walking distance. It is easy to see a few galleries in a short amount of time. The Wee Gallery’s website is very visual and it will give you an idea of what to expect. There is also a calendar. However, I am a bit concerned that there isn’t a scheduled show at this time. It looks like the next show will be in October. Most people would agree that visual art needs to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. Whether you are shopping for art, or just browsing, the Wee Gallery is a wonderful place to enjoy art.
