The Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa

I stayed here for a wedding with some friends. The layout is very spread out. But they had golf cart rides for their guests. They also offered complimentary rides to anywhere within a three mile radius! My friends utilized the rides for happy hours that were near by, and lemme tell you, there are pretty good happy hours near by. Like half off drinks, appetizers, and even unlimited mimosas a for brunch!
I felt very safe here. If you’re sharing a room with others, they want the names of everyone in case they lost a key. They wouldn’t issue out a new key to you if you’re not on this list. This was a pleasant note.
They also have a water slide, it is quite long. There is a bar to get drinks and act like a big kid. The only downside was that I went in the beginning of June. It was hot. Really hot. I would be cranky as soon as I left the doors.
The wedding venue was outside in the grass. And IT IS GORGEOUS. Very intimate. Very green. Very expensive (probably).

Resort is so nice! Stayed for a long weekend to just get away! Checked in early and room was ready. Traditional room with a king bed was just fine. View of the tennis courts ensured it quiet. Natural setting was beautiful. Bar area and staff exceptional. Friday pm live music just okay; a bit dated. Special request for hummus and veggies bar nosh and Chef worked it out! Delicious! Pool was great but service from Sabinos here just ok. Close to shopping at La Encantada nice. Breakfast at the CC had a beautiful view and better selection than the buffet.

I would have given a five there were some minor details but Chris the manger made up for them!

I always have an amazing stay anytime I book a room at La Paloma, and Memorial Weekend was no exception!
First, the views from the front of the hotel, pool, rooms… are all gorgeous. You’re smack dab in the middle of the Catalina Mountains, so you are surrounded by some really impressive views and skyline. And speaking of the pool, there is a water slide for the kids (adults too if you’d like… I don’t judge) and also an adults only pool, so you have plenty of options on what type of pool-​day experience you’d like.
Also, the rooms are all updated and are spacious and clean. Our room had a wonderful balcony that overlooked the pool and mountains to the left, so it was wonderful to sit on the patio and listen to the music from down below. Plus, the heavenly bed and bedding is always super comfortable, so I get some of my best sleep done in this room.
And if you stay here over the weekend, you MUST check out their Sunday brunch! It’s voted one of the best in the city, and once you see and taste the display (plus unlimited mimosas) you’ll understand why :)
Always a pleasure to stay at such a fine resort! Looking for an excuse to get back there soon.

I have stayed here many of times as a kid and loved it every time so we decided to bring our family for a staycation on Memorial day weekend. Granted we excepted it to be busy and we’re understanding till we showed up at 330 ready to check in which starts at 3 to be told our room was not ready. That it could be anywhere from 20 mins to 2 hours. We saw other ppl in the lobby who had been waiting 2 or 3 hours to get into their room. And the only thing they offered those ppl was a $ 25 resort credit. Not a late check out or anything to accommodate the time lost. Like I said I love this resort and wanted my baby to be able to enjoy it to but I would for sure never recommend going on a holiday weekend it seems they can’t handle the crowd.

Do NOT stay here if you want relax and not hear barking dogs all night. Do NOT book your stay with Expedia or Priceline. The resort will not help or assist you with issues. We had continuous issues with barking dogs next door and the resort did nothing. The dogs barked all night while the room residents were partying at a wedding. We even got security ourselves which did nothing. The resort refused to adjust our bill because we booked with Expedia. They said we already got a discounted rate and nothing they can do.

This is one of my favorite hotels; I try to visit at least once a year. This hotel has it all including beautiful views from the balconies, flat-​screen TVs, rainfall showerheads and Wi-​Fi just to name a few.
Now for some of my favorite amenities, There’s something for everyone including a therapeutic mineral pool enriched with imported Dead Sea salt, and of course the swim up pool bar… I think this is self explanatory. What more can you ask for, well let me tell you. There is a full workout fitness studio, jogging trail, tennis, Red Door Spa, kids pool with slide and on site dining.
After a day of shopping, dining and site seeing we normally spend one whole day just relaxing at the hotel enjoying the pools and lush, beautiful landscape. This resort & spa has been a family favorite for many years and we hope to continue going.

I see resort & spa and my mind automatically travels to palm trees, fruity drinks poolside, as I tan by a luxurious pool without a care in the world. And then I see t’s a Westin, and my expectations grow!
Sadly, the Westin with their renovation and all didn’t quite live up to that. It’s far from a resort and more like a hotel that shares a pool with a country club that offers up amenities at an extra charge (even additional from their ridiculous $ 25/​day resort fee).
The room itself was large and nice, although the bathroom did have a funky sewer smell. The pools were nice, but the «adult» area, and I put «adult» in air quotes like that because… sadly no one is policing and that «adult» area was more of a pre-​teen area. I saw so many youngins running around, screeching and hitting on each other as would any 12 year would do that my relaxing day at the pool, turned into what the hell, these kids are everywhere. One more huge con about the pools: they are busy. The hot tub was 100% full for the entire day.
Let’s also talk about their pool towels. As my homie said, these should have been donated to an animal shelter. Not luxurious at all.
Let’s talk about the $ 25 per day resort fee which doesn’t include a lot of the resort features. Want to play racquetball? That’s extra. I didn’t inquire about the tennis, but I’d say it’s safe to say, there’d be an extra charge.
The main hotel is quite lovely and spacious no denying that. They also seem to have brought a great local Tucson restaurant to their grounds, which we didn’t get to try, but heard great things.
Overall, not bad. There was absolutely no personal and warm touches provided by this hotel. They want your money, you get a bed and a pool and the transaction’s over. Kind of weak, if you ask me. At least give me a chocolate on my pillow, damn it.
I’d imagine a solid stay if you have kids, I however wouldn’t return with my husband or friend in tow again.

Alright, this is likely going to be a long review so bare with me.
I work for the 17^th largest corporation in the world, whose sole business and area of expertise is hospitality. So I did come here with a critical eye, and the things I found are astounding.
First off, the parking is horrendous. If you are in any way disabled, you are going to have a horrible time getting around because the grounds are way too large for the single area of parking they provide. Very odd and very frustrating.
Second, the customer service desk was really disappointing. For the bulk of our two day stay, we dealt with Giovann, who seemed to not give a crap about what he was doing or who he was serving. When we provided him with some of our concerns, he literally rolled his eyes. (If one of my employees ever did that, they would not only get the critique, but be required to apologize).
Third thing, according to ‘Brand Standards’, they do not put fitted sheets on the beds. If you are taller than 5’10″ this is going to be a problem on the double bed they put you in because your feet hit the sides and start to scrape. Not really the way you want to spend your night, and seriously, that is a ridiculous brand standard. (I work in brands all the time. When a customer does not like something, I SAY SOMETHING ABOUT IT).
Fourth, the hot water on one of the sinks was not working… need I go on.

Fifth, internet is friggen ridiculous! You get basic, which is not all that much. And then have to pay more depending on what you want. Yeah, Mc Donalds will give you free wifi, but not the Westin!
Sixth, the beds were not comfortable. Super lumpy and pillows were horrible.
Seventh, the sign on our building to get to our room was mislabeled. It made it seem like our room was on the other side, but no. It was a misprint, on the sign, for the rooms. Seriously! These are things you expect at a Motel, not a $$$$ Westin resort.
When these things were finally brought to management (Since Giovann seemed to give two s***s), the one thing she did was remove the resort fee of $ 25 from our second night. Oh gee, thanks! $ 25 after spending over $ 600 for two nights. Give me a break!
I know this is long, but I feel it needs to be said. This is place IS NOT WORTH IT. Go somewhere else. Overpriced, overhyped!
P. S. The General Manager has all these great credentials, but seems to do diddlysquat here. Things need to change. Apparently they are merging with Marriot so there is a chance!

So I am being nice and giving the Westin 2 stars for a comfortable bed (with lumpy pillows) and mostly clean rooms, but you definitely DO NOT get what you pay for here. If this was a run of the mill hotel I would give it 3 stars, but for the price paid here ($ 240 that reached very close to $ 300 by the time they finish adding their fees, per night) the place has way too many corners cut.
Pulling in to the place it has an absolutely beautiful façade and views. Then you start to actually stay there for a while and it crumbles fast. If only they would spend all that money they dropped on that gorgeous lobby that smells of wealth and luxury on actual luxury. Granted, it has some amazing pool and hot tub areas, but still. Finding better wifi at a McDonalds and better toilet paper and Kleenex at any restaurant I went to was not acceptable in my opinion. Sandpaper is NOT my preference (Preference is the name of the cheap brand they use).
My fiancé hurt her hip after lugging her luggage up the road I photographed here (with no sidewalk or alternate route, and the concierge Giovann forgot to offer the golf cart on check in). The parking lot has terrible access to the rooms that include a VERY indirect route with no paved paths to shortcut and a sign that was printed at the base of the stairwell that made me walk an extra block with luggage before realizing the sign lied and backtracking to the elevator.
No microwave in the room, but one can be delivered, eventually. The refrigerator is half the size of any tiny refrigerator I have ever used and required serious work to fit basic items inside. The toilet seat was attached at the wrong angle. The hot water on one of the sinks was a trickle. No electrical outlets anywhere near the bed, so if you plan on charging, don’t plan on using it. And a sad channel selection.
I went to a La Quinta for around $ 120 a night with no hidden fees, none of the trouble listed above, even more comfortable beds and pillows, free wifi, good paper products, etc. I only wish I had switched before wasting money on the Westin for a second night.
I did get an amazing massage (albeit way overpriced) at the red door, but it was amazing. Thank you Elise.
The manager at the front desk did a good job of listening as we told her about all the problems we had, but didn’t discount enough to make me feel not ripped off. Here’s hoping Marriot fixes this place when they acquire it and gets rid of stupid policies like paying for wifi and not using fitted sheets.

WTF happened to the cushions on the pool chairs?
I can’t even lay on my stomach because the plastic is so hard.
The staff even told me to write a bad review on here and TA to get management attention.

Came here a few weeks ago to get away from the house. We have been coming here for years (dinners, staycations, ect) and my mom would come here in its early days in the 80s for the on-​site nightclub that is now a restaurant.
We have been to La Paloma twice since it’s multi million dollar renovation and the rooms are still in excellent shape. Gone are the pesky, 27 inch Panasonic tvs that have been there for a decade and a half. The bathrooms are by far, the largest hotel bathrooms i have ever seen in a hotel. Bigger than our hall bathrooms at home. Housekeeping service, puts a very small quantity of soap, shampoo and conditioner. No loofah either. The coffee makers are kind of jokes. We got this room for $ 185 per night plus resort fee and parking fee and there isnt at least a keurig? Only one of each type of tea (night and morning) and two cups. They need more tea, coffee, ans cups. Room service is superb. Not a large selection of food but the selection they did have was delicious. A bit pricey but always came ahead of schedule and the guys who delivered the food were always friendly. They have a sleep well menu. Wish I woukd have tried it. There are no longer any mini-​bars in the rooms since they’ve been replaced with tiny fridges. The fridges would be convenient had they not have lacked so much depth. Can’t get snacks in there and forget about leftovers from restaurants or room service. Not only will they not fit, but there’s no microwave to heat the food up. So your only options are (if you can fit food in there) is eat it cold. Or, throw it out. There are no snack machines in guest buildings, no snack shop in the lobby but there’s a «snack menu» as well as a «late night dining menu». I don’t really feel right making someone come all the way to our room to bring a thing of popcorn, candy bar, mixed nuts or a pretzel. Plus I have to make sure everyone is presentable, the room is presentable and they automatically charge 18 percent gratuity. Having said all that, they really should have kept the mini bars. Or at least put in snack machines. Thank god for the in-​room movies because without it, there would be your classic hotel lack of channels (many of them not in HD despite having an HD television). I paired my phone up to the Ihome next to the bed. The quality of the audio was unbelievable. Nice for my lazy butt to answer calls without getting out of bed! Speaking of bed, there were several instances where the people in the room above stomped on the floor and slammed doors from 6am to 10am. I can’t imagine there were any kids up there being that it was another king room. That means there were adults do that. I’m a light sleeper and usually fall asleep at a late hour so I didn’t appreciate being awoken by inconsiderate jerks upstairs. I called several times to report the noise. Sometimes 2 to 3 times per day for 4 days. It was never taken care of right away. It always stopped at around 10am because I think they’d leave for the day. One day (supposed check out day), not only did I have a problem with the noise upstairs, but it was decided by us to add an additional night to the room at around 9:30 am. It was taken care of and I went to bed back to bed for awhile longer at 10. I no sooner hit the pillow, I get a knock on the door by the housekeeper asking if we were planning on checking out. I advised them that we weren’t and they left. Not only did the front not advise housekeeping that we extended, but they were knocking on the door 2 AND A HALF HOURS BEFORE CHECKOUT (12 pm). Whatever you do, if you stay here, ask for a room close to the lobby or one easy to find. We were in the D building and had serious trouble finding it a few times the first

Beautiful Westin Resort located 15 minutes outside of Tucson after you pass the 100 red lights. Beautiful rooms, beautiful views, the golf kart/​walk to your room in the pouring 40 degree rain not so cool.
I would come here for a weekend or two to get away and have fun, I bet during the summer this place is amazing and hoppin’ only about 30% full at the moment according to a staff member. The pool, restaurant, bar is all 5 star including the staff, this hotel is LEGIT.
I will be posting photos soon of my stay, just final thing, if your looking for that «resort/​spa» feel in Tucson this is your place, you will not regret it, the views of the mountains when you wake up are simply something you can’t describe or write about, come check it out.
The only thing that sucks is the Spa is $ 155 for a massage? really Red Spa? do you offer golden geese who walk on your back? WTF I’d love a $ 60 hour massage like every other place in town, but nooo because your a hotel and have some fancy chic behind your name you charge 3 times a normal massage, BS. I’d never spend my money on a massage over $ 60, so good luck Red Spa.
Negative Traits
$ 25 resort fee, but hey we don’t give you free wifi, and when it’s freezing rain outside and you have to take a golf cart to your room and then the guy drops half your luggage off the back of the cart because he doesn’t secure it down and you get wet while your lady is shaking cold. $ 25 resort fee for what? BS FEES WESTIN BS
I was 4 star on this hotel, but after checkout and realizing how much they charge for BS after all the set backs we incurred, it’s gone back to a 2 star hotel. Drury Inn and Mcdonalds have free Wifi, also if your an SPG member you can get free Wifi Right? WRONG you can have free level 1 internet that doesn’t include streaming netflix… so pay away SPG members.

My boyfriend and I were in Tucson for a wedding and we decided to head out of Chicago a few days early so we could have some pool time. La Paloma was perfect for what we wanted.
Unfortunately our weather was not that great the first day, so we spent more time in the city, rather than the pools. We went to the hotel bar, Azul at night and had a really great experience with the bartender. He was very friendly, engaging and gave us great recommendations for breweries in Tucson to visit.
We were able to enjoy the pools on our second day and we loved the swim up bar! I was not going to leave Tucson without going to that swim up bar! The salt water pool is much colder than expected… I bet it would be refreshing in the summer months.
The hotel was very clean, big, and beautiful. You can’t beat the view waking up in the morning and seeing the gorgeous Catalina Mountains. We’re adding La Paloma to our list of places to return! Thank you for our stay!

What is not to love about La Paloma? The service and dedication to customers is superb. I was continually impressed by the friendliness and eagerness of the staff to ensure our expectations were not only met, but exceeded! The resort has gorgeous views, spacious rooms (and bathrooms!), an adults only pool in addition to a kid friendly pool, and a water slide (woohoo!). I enjoyed two lovely nights in a mountainview room on a great summer deal that included a $ 50 resort credit. We used the credit on room service breakfast, which was really good! I also enjoyed the small café in the lobby that serves Starbucks beverages — although they close at 11 a.m.
As with any resort, it’s the little things that make the difference, so here are some little things I like: check-​in was a breeze, and we had lots of help moving our things into our room with the help of a valet with a golf cart; parking is easy; there is starbucks coffee for the in-​room coffee maker; as I walked from the pool area to the Red Door spa, I was offered a ride in a golf cart to my destination; it’s quick and easy to get a poolside drink; they two adult-​only pools and adult-​only hot tub; it was quiet, even for a 3-​day weekend.

Pretty okay in my mind, I stayed for 3 nights on a work trip a few weeks ago. The property itself is gorgeous and I think it’s great to have all the amenities does. It is a long walk depending where your room is. My room in particular was on the bottom floor far in a corner, which is fine for me. However it was a bit musty/​humid feeling, the AC cranked down did not seem as the temperature was accurate, and lots of bugs in the evening. I loved the beds, rain-​like showers, and that they served Starbucks in your room. It was also nice to have a patio/​balcony to enjoy your coffee in the morning on.

A solid 4 plus! Beautiful grounds and fantastic pools. Came here on a last minute trip and decided we should probably spend a couple of extra nights (despite the crazy heat) and really enjoy the hotel. Totally glad we did, as this place was heavenly.
Yeah, expect it to be ay dios mio hot, so be sure to hang out by the pools most of the time. The property has 5 pools: A killer mineral pool with salts from the Dead Sea (cold and refreshing), one with an awesome huge water slide, one with a swim-​up bar (Necessary!), an adult-​only pool, a lap pool for the competitive swimmer (yes!), and several hot tubs. There are golf and tennis courses but the pools are where it all happens. Word to the wise, bring your own sunscreen, as the one I bought at the gift shop was $ 16. Egads! I could’ve had another poolside cocktail!
The rooms were also great. If you’ve stayed at other Westin properties before, you’ll know what to expect: Heavenly beds, white tea toiletries, service express, room service etc. Always great attention to detail. It might be a bit of a walk to your room, but golf carts with drivers are always at the ready. Not a big deal. We stayed in the C building which had great views of the stars, Santa Catalina mountains, and one of the golf courses.
Finally, the staff could not have been more exceptional. Great people throughout. Special kudos to Ramon at Azul for sharing his pictures from the recent fire in the mountains. Freaking amazing! As Angeleno tourists that knew nothing about this fire, he really made the night and had us staring at the mountains in awe. Cool guy!
Dig this place and would definitely return!

Ok, now I realize this place is meant for rich people, and for rich people money is no object. However, this still does not excuse the fact that this place charges for Wi-​Fi. Yes, a hotel in 2015 that still charges for a basic utility. You know who else charges for Wi-​Fi? Motel 6. That’s right, this high end «resort» has a motel 6 business practice. Drink that one in, rich people.
The rooms are nice, if you don’t mind a small mountain hike to get to them. There’s covered parking, if you get to the place at two in the morning and are just lucky, otherwise your car bakes in the sun.
Staff is nice.

I never imagined finding such an amazing little gem in Tucson. The resort is beautiful and so well designed. Perfect for families and couples. The staff is kind, professional and attentive. Activities for every member of the family, even toddlers.
I’m gonna get mushy now… I’m not one to talk about sunsets… but…holy hell, the sunsets are ridiculously beautiful. Sit on the balcony, have a glass of wine & enjoy it with your family.
Bottom line… this place is amazing. It’s relaxation at its finest. I’m so relaxed, I’m too lazy to write anything else…
