History

Established in 1976.

My husband, Johnny Leonard and I owned our first Barber Shop in 1976. Then my mom became a barber and worked with us, after that… my daughter Shannon and now Jason. We are all BARBERS.

Shannon is now at Buddha’s Barber Shop on Swan.

Our first shop was a bar and barbershop together, out by Old Tucson, on Kinney Rd. Johnny and I were also musicians in a band called the Jacks.

I also have my art studio behind my Barber Shop, if I’m not cutting hair I’m painting or sculpting. Stop in and see us!

Established in 1976 my name is Misty, I’m the Master Barber, and owner of Sweeney’s Barber Shop, I am Sweeney. My daughter Shannon and I named our shop Sweeney’s after the movie Sweeney Todd (just for fun).

I became a barber in 1976, I am also an artist and I hang my art in the shop, it gives ya something to look at while you are there. I was a musician for many years in a band called The Jacks, here in Tucson.

Im very picky about my hair. Other places at double the price havent done half as good a haircut. .while the scifi gothic décor isnt everyones cup of tea I like it. I came in and within 2 mins Misty was cutting my hair. Very good cut at a great value

Great affordable walk in haircut. Misty listened to what I wanted and made it happen along with a tight clipper cut followed by a straight razor finish. We recently moved into the area, it’s nice to have a good barber shop close. Park in the back and enter through the back door

I stopped in at Sweeney’s when my regular barber shop was closed on Saturday. The shop is very interesting, there are plenty of magazines and Jason really does a great job of cutting hair. Because I travel I am sometimes at the mercy of an unknown haircut so I didn’t expect my hair to recover from a bad cut I previously got out of town, but Jason has recovered the damage with just one cut!

These reviews are obviously out of date. Sweeneys is a mess in every possible way. The place is dusty, dirty, cluttered like an episode of hoarders. We went in for a haircut and we were the only people there. The barber told us that he doesn’t do long hair. That’s ok, we don’t have long hair. No, he doesn’t cut hair, making a cutting motion with his fingers, he never learned how, he said. Oh, I finally got it, he just does buzz cuts, he’s not a barber at all, just a guy. We left.

Love this place! Great haircuts from both Misty and Jason in a very unique environment. Misty is multi-​talented, and her paintings & sculptures adorn every wall in her barber shop. Her love for Star Trek, dragons, aliens and Johnny Depp make for a very fun and interesting experience. Never a dull moment here!

This is the best barber shop I’ve ever been to, in Tucson or otherwise. Unlike most barber shops which look exactly the same, this one is a work of art. You see, the owner, Misty, is an artist and decorates the place with interesting and unusual trinkets and even some of her own paintings and sculptures. The back room is used as a sort of artist studio, where she sculpts and paints in between giving haircuts. I should add that the haircuts here are top notch, too. I keep telling Misty she needs to have her on TV show on the Discovery Channel as this place is totally unique! Great Tucson gem!

The walls are filled with Johnny Depp memorabilia and the shop is called Sweeney’s. Hmm… do you think the owner, Misty, is a Johnny Depp fan? With a name like Sweeney’s can you blame me for getting nervous when the straight razor comes out? Good thing there is no pie shop next door…
Seriously, Jason and Misty are friendly and attentive barbers. I have walked in five minutes before closing and Jason offered to stay late and cut my hair without even blinking an eye. I have gone other places, but that kind of service is what brings me back to this cool little neighborhood barbershop again and again.

What a deal. It is only a five minute drive from the Sheraton, and I have never had such an attentive haircut for $ 10. Jason really took his time and made sure he cut my hair just like I wanted it. Highly recommended if you are in the area and looking for a sharp haircut by an attentive barber.
