One of the very few honest car mechanic shops in Tucson! Went to 3 mechanic shops before here (including the VW dealer) and all said that the catalytic converter was broken and were charging 1000 – 3000 to fix it. Took the car here and the mechanic let us know that it wasn’t an issue with the converter but the car’s computer reading the code incorrectly. The mechanic was straight with us and said that they can clear the code for now but it may come up again. The best part? Didn’t charge us for anything. The guy who worked with us said that because they weren’t able to completely resolve the problem with the code it wasn’t fair to charge us. Ive never heard that from a mechanic shop for not charging and being honest up front with the issue. Any issues come up with our VW we know exactly where to go! THANK YOU!

This is the place to go if you own a VW or Audi. The techs are beyond knowledgeable when it comes to european cars. This shop has gone above and beyond for me. They were able to troubleshoot issues my car had in a day that the dealership couldn’t figure out after having my car for almost two weeks. They were able to answer all of my questions and explain what was going on with my car in great detail. They never pressured me or tried to BS me into fixing something the way a lot of other shops try to do. This is one of the most upfront and honest shops I’ve ever had the pleasure of dealing with and I will be a lifetime customer because of that.

I have nothing but good things to say about this place! When I had first moved to Tucson, I needed some work done on my car and had trouble finding a mechanic. I called a few places but got nothing but rude people who didn’t want to give me the time of day on the phone so naturally I wouldn’t want to take my car there. I finally found Stuttgart autohaus and they have been great! The people there are very nice and they have a shuttle service in case you need a ride home or to the autoshop which is so convenient. At this point I wouldn’t trust anyone but Stuttgart with my Audi. If you have a WV or an Audi, I would highly recommend going to see these guys. The are reliable, trustworthy and efficient. The owner Gary is a great guy and will always do what he can to help you out!

Great VW/​Audi auto shop! I have taken two of my VW’s to Stuttgart over the past six years. They have always been reliable, honest, and cost effective. I usually save about 20−30% over what the dealership charges. Even when I’ve had to take my car to the dealership Stuttgart has been there to answer questions and tell me the true price for parts and labor so I know the deal I’m getting. As long as I live in Tucson they have a customer in me. They’re also an APR tuner now which is awesome! No more trips to Phoenix for tuning!

Ok, I have had good customer service around town on various cars, but this place is on a whole other level. If you have a VW or Audi don’t even THINK of another shop. From the outside it does not look like much… then you step in. You immediately know that this shop is for the customer and their main concern is you, not their next job. He has worked with me and been honest with me on more then one occasion. I will no longer go anywhere else with my VW… and my next car may be a VW (or Audi) just because I know he is here!

I brought my car to them with 288K miles and a worst case scenario. My father was driving my car and 102K miles after the last timing belt change, the belt broke. I bent some valves, but they offered a solution of rebuilding my head. For the same price i supplied them with all of the parts needed to make my car run stronger than a freight train, and they installed them. I understood that they could not warrantee the parts that I supplied, but the car came back better than when I originally bought it, and that was 11 years and 288K miles ago. These gentlemen know what they are doing and their workmanship was fantastic. My car now has about 300 ft. lbs. of torque and is faster than my 1990 corvette. Strong work! STOP going to the stealership! I have nothing but kudos to give to these VW experts. Point to note: I am a shadetree mechanic and I usually do all the work myself but with the TDI, I lacked the laptop, the software and the special tools needed for this job. This time I gave it to the experts and they came through, BIG TIME! Thank you Stuttgart Autohaus, I’ll be back with my wife’s TDI, 10k before her timing belt needs to be changed. My 2003 TDI Wagon is incredible!

If you have a Volkswagen or Audi, this is the place to get your car repaired! They are every bit as competent as the dealer, and since Chapman took over you could say Stuttgart is *more* competent than the dealer! They will do some general maintenance on other brands, even Japanese, but their main specialty is VW/​Audi.
They are always fast and friendly, and costs are reasonable. They have a comfortable waiting room with coffee and popcorn available. They also provide a shuttle service that is prompt and courteous.
This shop is honest and locally owned. In fact, I have never been in and not seen the owner there. Most times he stops to personally greet me.
After 7 years of patronage, I guess it’s time to finally give them a review. Top recommendation from me!

Gary was able to complete work that neither Chapman VW nor Larry H. Miller were able to do. Not sure why it was so hard to install VW parts, but if you are installing any additional accessories, skip the dealers and go to Gary.

Took my ’01 Jetta in yesterday for an oil change and a strange noise from the front end. Now my ride drives like it did day 1, and I did not get a «wallet flush» in the process. I can honestly say I cannot wait to take my car back there and my experience makes me want to own a VW or Audi forever because I’ve finally found a great shop that I know I can trust when I need help.

Gary and his team are honest! I highly recommend them and plan to only buy my next car that they can service when out of warranty.

I had been to several mechanics to try and fix an ongoing issue with my Jetta. Hundreds of dollars were spent on unnecessary repairs, and the issue was never resolved. Then someone suggested I go to Stuttgart. Best decision I made. I’ve found them to be honest, trustworthy and careful not to waste much of my hard earned money. At long last, I finally found a gem of an auto-​shop.

The audi dealership was confused about what was wrong with our car and recommended that we replace the transmission for almost $ 8,000. My husband’s co-​worker suggested that we call Gary with Stuttgart Autohaus for a second opinion. Gary called the dealership on our behalf and advised us that it did NOT sound like a transmission problem, but a much cheaper and easier repair. Gary was correct and the car was fixed for $ 250. We live 2 hours away from Gary’s shop and had the work done locally, but we were so impressed with Gary’s help and expertise which saved us a fortune. We would highly recommend him!

I had Gary inspect a Eurovan that I was purchasing. Very thorough, reasonable price, great guy. Highly recommended! And he has graciously spent time on the phone with me explaining things and says «call back anytime with questions.»

Gary Vroegh (owner) and his team at Stuttgart Autohaus are some of the nicest and most honest mechanics in the business. Not only as a shop are they direct and have their customer’s best interests in mind, but Gary personally went above and beyond to make sure I wasn’t getting taken advantage of by the Fletcher Jones VW dealership service department in Chicago, IL.
To preface this review — I no longer live in Tucson, AZ otherwise I would have taken my 2001 VW Jetta directly to Stuttgart Autohaus and saved myself a lot of hassle.
My story…
My Jetta was serviced at Stuttgart Autohaus in October 2013 in preparation for making a cross country drive to Chicago, IL which is where I now live. The car made the drive fine, but upon arrival in the city the check engine light came on.
Initially I took it to a Bosch Certified auto body shop in the city, and was told that my computer system simply needed software updates, which unfortunately could only be done at the dealership. I then took the car to Fletcher Jones VW in Chicago to have a diagnosis done ($ 160…yikes) and they failed to fully diagnose the problem. They suggested several things that might be the cause of the issue, and sent me an estimate for $ 3300 worth of repairs they claimed I needed done.
Gary, having recently seen my car, knew that almost everything on the estimate was unnecessary. Of the items on the estimate, the only repair that warranted being done was replacing a cracked vacuum booster pipe, which Gary believes would solve the check engine light & cylinder misfire problem.
Gary went above and beyond by:
1. Reading through my entire estimate from VW.
2. Calling my mother, who still lives in Tucson, to explain the issues directly to her.
3. Looking up the VW direct list price for the part I needed (vacuum pipe) which only costs $ 116, and advising me that I shouldn’t pay more the $ 300 total with labor.
4. Being so outraged that he called my VW service rep directly to discuss the estimate.
5. Contacting the Bosch auto body shop I had originally gone to, explaining what I needed done, giving them the part number, and telling them they could contact him any time if they needed help with the repair process.
6. Having my back 100%.

We’ve known the owner, Gary, for many years — since he was the service manager at the VW dealer, and I was having great difficulties with that dealership. (Just know that Gary knows how to deal w/​irate, crazed customers and how to make things right!) We were happy to follow him when he became owner of Stuttgart. It says a lot that two of VW’s best people were willing to take a chance and go with him.
Stuttgart has taken care of several of our cars over the years — 2 Audis, several VWs and a Honda — both for routine maintenance and more serious stuff. They even installed a Subaru engine in our ol’ Vanagon; I’m sure they still have nightmares over the miles of wiring that had to be straightened out to make the swap work. There has never been a problem with anything we’ve had done at Stuttgart (we would not be long-​term customers if there had been problems). We’ve always felt their prices are reasonable (often less than the dealer, when we’ve checked), and the jobs have been completed on time and satisfactorily. My husband is fanatical about his Audi TT. No really — he puts the car cover on it. .. in the garage. I still am required to remove my shoes to ride in it, and if there’s a 10% chance of rain, it doesn’t leave the garage. I have no illusions which of us is more important. haha. Stuttgart has done maintenance work, and also some custom, high performance work for him — all to my husband’s satisfaction.
All the employees are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I don’t mind waiting for my car; I can spend an hour just looking at the collection of VW model cars displayed in the shop. If I had to come up with something that I wasn’t entirely happy with, it would be a former employee, who was probably capable but not particularly a «people person.» Gone now, so not an issue. I’m sad — and surprised — to read that a few people were not happy with Stuttgart. It’s hard to fathom.

I have used these guys a couple of times and i found the workmanship to be top notch and the shop to be open and honest about the the work they will be doing or what they discover while performing work on my vehicles.
I would not trust my VW to anyone else in Tucson.

I called these guys to get a second opinion over the phone after getting an estimate I thought was pretty high for fixing my window at another place. I have a VW Cabrio, and it has always been a pain to fix, so I thought I’d call a place who deals exclusively with VW’s. I got helped right away and they sorted my problem out, explained to me fully and clearly my situation (I’m not exactly an aficionado of cars), and even called the other place to suggest the correct and cheaper option of repairing my window. Needless to say, they were courteous and helpful just over the phone, and I’ll be heading back here in the future for sure.

I don’t understand the negative reviews here. I own a VW Jetta TDI and am a VERY, VERY picky owner. And I mean really picky. I drive my car about 120 miles a day, round trip to Ft. Huachuca, and cannot tolerate anything less than a good running vehicle. I know my car and meticulously maintain my diesel VW and expect that anyone servicing it know exactly what they are doing and provide excellent service at a reasonable price. Stuttgart Autohaus has won me over, and I continue to take my car there over and over again. Gary (the owner) is a good Christian guy and cares about the quality of his shop’s work and the customer’s satisfaction. These folks are spectacular and I highly recommend them.

Brought my Audi for a minor repair… since its going to be $ 200+ at the dealer. It was a pleasant experience none the less…

Unfortunately, this place has fallen from grace since Ed (the original owner, German) retired. We had to take our Highlander back approx 5 times to fix the SAME problem. On the last round, they got a rental car for us, but to make a long story short (and not really their fault), we ended up paying $ 500 extra because the rental got damaged — hell of an expensive «free» rental. If we hadn’t had to take the car back so many times, we never would have had that rental. The guys are very nice and honest but service is incompetent. We won’t be going back.
