The Strauss ECE and Kindergarten promotes the development of young children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age in a nurturing and stimulating play-based program that encourages creativity, decision-making and problem-solving skills and a joy of learning. Age-appropriate activities challenge each child to develop his social, emotional, intellectual, physical and spiritual potential. Teachers here are emotionally responsive to the children in their care and the ever-changing, emergent curriculum provides children with opportunities to delve into questions as they arise, teaching them the merits of intellectual curiosity. In fully exploring topics of relevance to them, learning through imaginative play, and expressing themselves through a variety of media, children emerge from this program with strong foundations of independence and self-esteem that are critical to their ongoing personal and academic development.

I have been the Director of the Strauss ECE and Kindergarten since March 2003. My philosophy of early childhood education is learning through play. I believe that a variety of experiences are enriching and stimulating for children.
As the grandmother of two Strauss ECE graduates, I am both personally and professionally motivated to make sure that all of the experiences, learning, and enrichment opportunities are as positive as possible. Understanding the critical role that teachers play and work hard to recruit the best teachers and provide ongoing support and training for them is an important part of my philosophy.
A little more background about myself, I was born in Tucson, grew up in the Catskill Mountains, went to school in Boston, moved to Albuquerque, and then eventually back to Tucson in 1992. I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and a minor in sociology and child development. I also have extensive post-graduate training in child psychology.
