Dr. Mickel Malek M.

Business Owner

Dr. Malek is a graduate of the University of Michigan with top honors in advanced prosthodontics. He has volunteered his services with both the Boys and Girls Club of Tucson as well as St. Elizabeth of Hungary Dental Clinic. He also served as clinical instructor for the Pima Community College Dental Hygiene Department, Dr. Malek has devoted himself to extensive training in the fields of Periodontics, Orthodontics, Oral Surgery, Implantology and Aesthetic full mouth rejuvenation.

He is member of the American Dental Association, Arizona Dental Association, Southern Arizona Dental Association, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, and American Orthodontic Society. His true passion remains Sculpture and the continuous study of organic beauty blended with meticulous attention to detail. His oil paintings are on display for patients to enjoy in a relaxed gallery setting.

This maniac is now operating in SANTA CRUZ CA. All of his staff, whom he inherited through buy-​out of an existing dental practice, have quit. He has been accused of assault against the former owner and most of the inherited patients refuse his services due to aggressive behavior and NO CLASS. He has lawsuits against him from the state of AZ for sexual harassment and retaliation stemming from his last dental pratice in Tempe AZ.

This dental office is the reason why I have trust issues. I saw Dr. Koo after having pain on a tooth I previously got a filling in. I normally go to my family dentist in tempe but I couldn’t make the drive because my tooth hurt so badly all of a sudden. She told me that it was infected, I might need a root canal, and prescribed me medication. She also claimed that I grind my teeth and that I needed a mouth guard to use at night, which could possibly result in not needing a root canal. As odd as it sounded to me, I believed her and I even began to doubt my regular dentist because in all the years I’ve gone to him, he never told me I grind my teeth at night. I think I paid roughly $ 400 for the mouth guard. I mean, it was a nice guard because it molded to my teeth and was similar to Invisalign. She claimed it was expensive because it’s not made from cheap materials from China or whatever.
I went to my regular dentist in tempe a week later because the pain came back and he told me I didn’t need a mouth guard. Instead he said I needed a root canal as soon as possible and that a mouth guard was completely unnecessary. Basically he said I got ripped off and he himself was saying, what did she actually even do? Like, who does that? I wasted money on that mouth guard when I could’ve just used that for a root canal. So I’m pretty irritated that she hustled me. The worst part is, she minimized the situation and made me sit on a procedure that apparently needed to be done as soon as possible. I also called ahead of time to see if Smile Spa would take my insurance and they said they did. Then AFTER my exam they told me they didn’t accept my insurance so I had to pay the amount for that darn mouth guard and cleaning same day. I’d say the only thing I liked about Smile Spa is that they had cool dental equipment, but state of the art equipment is useless if a dentist doesn’t care about their patients and are dishonest.
Lastly, what’s all this I’m reading about facial, massages, and smoothies? I didn’t get any of that but I guess it makes sense since it’s supposedly a «Smile Spa».

I was happy with Smile Spa under its old dentist, Dr Malek. I have had multiple issues since Dr Koo took over.
Most recently, they fraudulently billed my insurance for an appointment that never happened.

I would give this lady who took over the Original Smile Spa a big fat zero star but it’s not an option… this used to be an awesome place full of knowledgable people. Now it’s sales pitch after sales pitch. My whole family used to come here… not anymore. If you like to spend your money on dental work not needed and you want to spend a lot of your time waiting for your appt. then this is a perfect place for you

As my last review was unceremoniously deleted I will review again. I made an appt. They called me to come in hours early. I agreed. They were not ready for me. I waited almost half an hour and left without being seen. I did not reschedule my day to wait that long for the dentist to even acknowledge my existence.

Thank God for the new ownership! I’ve been coming here for three years now. Dr. Malek was an arrogant tyrant who had his staff on pins and needles and would constantly berate them right in front of me. Not exactly what you want to hear when they have sharp metal rods shoved in my mouth. He also cost me time and money in mistakes. After I finished invisalign he put a permanent retainer that moved my teeth back to their original position before the invisalign (completely wasting my time spent with invisalign) and then he shaved off the side of my tooth with a metal grinder as a quick fix. Dr. Koo, the new dentist, seems to be much more professional, caring, and knowledgeable. The staff seems much happier and the atmosphere is more relaxed. Which is a great thing because this office really is the most beautiful dental facility I’ve ever seen. It feels like the Venetian Hotel in Vegas. They seem to have all the latest gadgets and it’s so close to my house. Where else can you get a massage and a teeth cleaning?!

This place is wonderful! The ambience is nice which says a lot for a dental office. They offer you a drink when you arrive — coffee tea water or a smoothie. They have different kinds of smoothies and they are so yummy!
The staff are very nice and friendly. I really like the hygienist — she’s cleaned my teeth twice now.
I became a VIP which means for $ 300 I get my teeth cleaned 3 times/​year xrays and 2 spa services! The last time I had a massage which was very good. I’m looking forward to my next cleaning and will get a facial at that time.

Place is great. It definitely has a great ambiance to it. The staff is very nice. His hygienist is great. As soon as I arrived, they made me a nice smoothie. Dr. Malek was nice and has a good calm demeanor. After I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I was surprised to have numbness 7 hours still along my bottom lip. So when I called the after hours number, I got a phone call back within 2 minutes from Jason, the hygienist on call, and he assured me this is not uncommon. So the timeliness was definitely a plus. Oh yeah, while waiting for my crown to be made, they have a massage therapist on site and I got a full body massage as a complimentary gift. I would recommend them without reserve.
