Pep Boys

I don’t usually like chains, but I purchased an auto battery here a few years ago when I had to. Recently, the battery began to fail. I couldn’t find my receipt, but Pep Boys had a record of my purchase. My battery was fully warranted — but only two months left on the warranty. They replaced it, charged a small installation fee ($ 15), and I got a new battery for free — under warranty, but without having to provide my receipt, which would have been troublesome. Miguel and Nui were nice, as were the guys who ran the tests, confirmed the bad battery, and installed it. I did not have an appointment, but went to dinner across the street while they worked on other cars ahead of me and got to me. Pretty reasonable, all in all.

Terrible… first we went to a different location and they had the tire we needed, but it was their last one and they refused to sell it to us because «it was needed for reserve» but we could «order it and it would arrive by that night»…which makes no sense to me, because that means you can have another one in a matter of a few hours. Anyways we then went to this location and it took just shy of 3 HOURS to change 2 tires… because they persuaded us to replace both front tires instead of just the damaged one. I dont know if they just don’t have anybody working or what, but 3 hours to change 2 tires is ridiculous in any tire shop especially when you’re the only person in the waiting room.

These guys are the biggest ripoff in town. I brought in my truck for an estimate on brake work, and while I know that can be tricky, Juan gave me an estimate of $ 1200 to replace pads and rotors and work on the master cylinder. He said I would have to sign a waiver to even drive my truck out of the parking lot, which I was anxious to do as I knew Juan had «seen me coming» in the metaphorical sense as a blonde woman who he assumes doesn’t know a gasket from a brake arm. After signing my cautionary waiver, I headed to Firestone where all of the aforementioned work was done as well as a brake light connected in my camper for $ 500. A $ 700 difference is scary. Don’t be taken in. Get other estimates and realize that charging for unnecessary work is big business in this town.

I made an appointment for 11:00 a.m. for an oil change for my 2006 automobile. When I made the appointment online at 6 a.m. it was wide open for appointments!
The guy at the desk was nice and I told him I was ‘trying your shop instead of Fletcher’s this time.’ After the check-​in a service guy came up and said ‘we won’t get to your car for an hour!’ I said ‘then what is the point about making an appointment?’ No answer. Someone was picking me up for lunch anyway and I asked the initial guy ‘so what do you think, like an hour and a half?’ And he said ‘yes.’
After 1 hour 45 minutes we drove by and my car was being worked on.
So we drove around another 15 minutes and it was out of the open shop.
When I went into the store, they THEN told me there were 2 little lights out. I said ‘I really don’t want to wait any longer!‘
Why didn’t they CALL ME and ask if I wanted those lights fixed?
In asking again, ‘why bother to make an appointment if you aren’t going to honor it?’ The guy had no answer other than ‘well, your car was next.
At any rate, this won’t be where I’ll take my car in the future. Fletcher’s is fine, they honor appointments.

Awful, awful service. Walked in the store and they acted as if I didn’t exist. I told them I needed a tire fixed and the man at the desk said «hold on» while he proceeded to ask a guy who was walking in the door if he needed help! The mechanic finally came out to tell me that they were going to fix the tire from the outside because they couldn’t get it off of the rim. I said that was fine. 20 minutes later the same rude man from the desk came to tell me that it couldn’t be fixed and I would have to buy a new tire! I will not be coming back! Waste of time and very poor customer service. The mechanics are very nice though!

Came in with an issue concerning my dash board lights. After driving to and spending a lot of time at O’Reilly Auto Parts and Radio Shack where the Service guys were great yet could not find the Battery Fuse Box in my NIssan (unfortunately the manual that came with the car did not provide that information), I called this Pep Boys on Speedway. They could not help me over the phone and asked that I bring my car in, so as soon as I got there Andrew went to work on scouting out this particular battery fuse box. It took a lot of time, and was made more challenging in the middle of the afternoon in the extreme AZ Summer heat with the sun blasting down big time. Andrew finally found the fuse box. I am grateful to his hard work and care. And since Pep Boys didn’t have the right size fuse they did not charge me for the service. So back to O’Reilly I went, and was glad Andrew showed me how to install the fuse on my own! I appreciate Andrew’s excellent costumer service and knowledge.

The guy, Lyle, took care of me. Had a new battery installed, service was great. They did overall check of starter and alternator as well… good group, good service. No issues.

I needed a simple tire repaired and they constantly tried to upsell me every step of the way. Also on the phone they quoted $ 15 and they ended up charging me $ 20. On top of that they are extremely slow. They told me 10 minutes and as I’m writing this review I have been sitting here for over 30 minutes with no sign of the job getting done soon. Please save your time and money and go anywhere else other than here.

If you make an appointment online for an oil change, you can supposedly print out a coupon to get it for $ 19.99. The coupon never appeared, but I printed out their e-​mail confirmation of my appointment and, even though it took some cash-​register finagling by the manager, they honored that price. The oil change was done quickly, and the Pep Boys at this location are extraordinarily nice.

No thank you, I will stick to the pepboys on 6^th where I am always treated better and in/​out quicker.
I made an appointment at this locations– when I got there it was like I had never called, the line was totally backed up behind me and the guy at the counter wasn’t even giving me the time of day. Had to leave my car overnight and wait until 12 the next day to pick it up. No apology or even acknowledgment of my time wasted.
As for most of my car and other shopping needs– Go south Tucson all the way.

If I could give them a ZERO i would. This place is a joke. The work took a month. Then I had to take the car to another shop to get if fixed correctly. Not only did I receive bad service. They had the poor taste to stare at my wife making what I can only assume were lude comments about her. Save your self the trouble and go some where else.

what a scam — i was on a driving trip from san francisco, and developed a small divot in one tire… probably was nothing, but i always worry about sidewall injuries and i was far from home so i thought i better replace the tire. not being familiar with any used tire shops in the area, i went to the pep boys to see if they had a cheap new tire.
the guy there said they had one for around $ 80, which was more than i wanted to spend but i said ok… he then noticed i had an ‘all wheel drive’ car, and said, that he would recommend replacing all 4 tires. whatever — just one please. then he refused to replace the one tire, saying it was unsafe, and they all needed replacing!!!
WHAT A SCAM !!! luckily, after driving a couple blocks, i found a used tire place & for $ 25 installed got a perfect fit…
sorry manny, moe & jack, you are not going to rip me off…
