I waited 45 minutes for biscuits and gravy he and when it came it was cold. My friend ordered Mexican scramble with tree so and it was gross the lady at the register said their tree so it’s a little different I wish they would’ve told me that first hated it hated it hated it

My boyfriend & I decided to try this restaurant after hearing so much about it. I am a Tucson native and have known about Mother Hubbard’s for a long time but never had interest to try it but after seeing the great pics on Unilocal & reading the great reviews about their green corn waffle, we were excited to try it.
My boyfriend & I decided to try the breakfast & started with a green corn waffle. The waffle definitely lived up to our expectations! It was delicious. It was like biting into a green corn tamale but better! My boyfriend decided to pour syrup over it which scared me a little but it made the waffle taste even better. Not only can you taste the corn but the waffle had corn kernels within & the green chile sauce with the cheese was the perfect topping. Loved it!
For our main dishes, I ordered the 2 egg pak which consisted of 2 over easy eggs, hash browns, & a side order of the country sausage. The eggs & the hash browns were good but my order of sausage was awful. The moment the server put my plate down I could tell that the sausage was not fully cooked. When I cut thru the sausage, it was clearly still raw! The server was very apologetic & not only re-​cooked the sausage but gave me an extra order of their apple onion sausage & took it off my bill. She totally made up for it.
My boyfriend ordered the bayou bowl for his entrée & he really liked it. His favorite part of the bowl was definitely the grits. Being from the south, he is a grits connoisseur & said he was pleasantly surprised to how good & cheesy the grits were. The only part of the dish he felt was mediocre was the shrimp. My boyfriend said the shrimp was more like your standard shrimp cocktail & he was expecting more of a bigger melt in your mouth type of shrimp.
We also shared an order of the Vermillion biscuit & gravy & I have to say that neither one of us was a big fan. The gravy was a little too bland & the biscuit was a little too dry. I expected the gravy to have a little more sausage & the biscuit to be a little more moist & buttery.
The one dish that definitely saves this restaurant & will have me try it again is definitely their waffle. I loved the waffle so much that I am curious to try the rest of their waffles!
The staff was very friendly & attentive.

I’ve been coming here for several years and really enjoy the waffles and fresh-​made sausage. But it takes an hour to get your food. The restaurant is chronically understaffed. I’ve brought guests from out of town only to find that we could have read a book in the time it took to get scrambled eggs delivered.
Recently I had to wave down a bus boy, who brought us some water but said the restaurant had run out of menus. Some friendly people at the next table gave us their menus. 20 minutes later the waiter showed up and got us coffee — but not sweetener, half & half, etc.
I wonder if there is a single waffle iron behind the counter, because waffles took forever. Friends who come here have also reported one-​hour waits.

Food was delicious!
Didn’t expect to see a $ 20 bill after the meal.
Was hoping for something under $ 13 for a breakfast.

I was visiting Tucson over the weekend and my friend took me to this little gem. I don’t think we have anything like this in Phoenix. Green chili and corn waffles? Loved them! This fun place will remain a favorite of mine in Tucson.

The food here is really good, I get the green corn waffle with a side of salsa almost every time. The server was excellent, he was very friendly and funny. Not the cleanest place around but still worth going, especially for brunch!

A little disappointed by my last visit to Mother Hubbard’s. We came in with a party of 10, and the first frustration was they were unable (or, unwilling) to sit us all at one table. Instead, their solution was to split the party into two groups that were not even across from one another — we ended up sitting diagonally. Thus, we ended up only being able to talk with part of the group we sat with. A little disheartening, because they could easily have done more to accommodate us (ie: turn the tables vertically and it would have been easy to push tables together).
Food was another issue. They brought our food out in two waves (for the two split groups). Members of both tables had food that was brought out cold. Not cool, but actually cold. One member even had to send her order back in order to get it warmed up.
A few notes on specific items:
– The blue corn waffles were mediocre. Nothing really fancy.
– The biscuits and gravy (mushroom gravy) were good if they were warm when you got them. Otherwise, they were cold and that is somewhat annoying.
– Soy-​rizo was really good.
– Eggs were cold on some dishes
– They didn’t have the prickly pear lemonade that they advertise (or the prickly pear tea) and this is the third time I’ve come in and this is the case. Maybe take it off the menu or order more.
– Apple onion sausage was really good in terms of flavor, but was a bit cold.
Kind of a lackluster experience. BUT… we all absolutely loved our server. Of course, I will be back, but probably will write this off as a place where you can bring a group larger than four.

Advised when ordering that menu depicts some items are ‘gf’ yet not actually not anymore, so not to order. I appreciated the advise immensely.
Where the food is placed for pick-​up is so small that overflowing food touches another’s non-​gf food. The food is good but cross-​contamination not worth it for silly-​yaks.

We visited Mothers on a Saturday around 11a after a night on the town so we ordered hefty, gotta soak up the fun from the night before.
It is a small restaurant with fun artwork with Day of the Dead like pictures, really embracing the southwest/​Mexican theme.
I ordered the cornbread waffle with the addition of eggs and meat; I went with the carne asada. The hubby ordered the hash with mushroom gravy and biscuits.
My waffle was fantastic! Really unique crunchy textures on the outside christmas candy recipes but it wasn’t dense like cornbread rather light and fluffy plus the butter that came with it was tasty. The carne asada however was flavorless.
The gravy was truly something; creamy with just enough flavor and the biscuits were nice and soft. However the hash was really lacking in flavor and corned beef, too much tots not enough meat.
We will be back to try the other waffles!

Service was a little slow but very friendly and restaurant wasn’t very full at all. I like the homey local feel and the fact that they use ingredients grown here near Tucson.
Has eggs Benedict and I’m not of the muffin they have. Tastes like sourdough and is not crispy and crunchy like the English muffins I’m used to having with eggs Benedict. I didn’t enjoy it. Potatoes were nothing to brag about either.
Husband felt good was nothing special, and not very flavorful. Prices were okay, according to their menu they had to raise them recently due to cost of eggs and meat.
Coffee has no taste, husband was unhappy.
Probably won’t come back but glad I came by to check it out.

I know a lot of people that really, and I mean REALLY love this place; so when it came time to pick a «Date Night» breakfast spot, it was an easy pick.
This was our first time ever being at this restaurant, slightly disappointed, slightly Love this place… Before even arriving we did our research, as we do all other spots we eat at. This is how it started, the website states that they are open from 6am-​2pm Monday-​Saturday and Sunday 7am-​2pm, but when we arrived they had a paper sign on the door that stated the hours are Monday-​Friday 6am-​2pm, and Saturday/​Sunday 7am-​2pm. We were sad because we were already to have breakfast after a difficult morning. We looked inside and saw about a handful of people seated and drinking coffee, so we entered the restaurant, hopeful, that we would be seated. The waitress seemed to be annoyed by the fact that we entered the restaurant early but still welcomed us into the restaurant.
Upon first glance it was 100% a «dive» restaurant, slightly messy, unorganized look, but that’s what attracts people. Next the menu, after we sat down, we were given menus that had syrup on them, kind disappointed as we were MAYBE the 7^th customers to enter the restaurant and the menus were already uncleaned, you’d think the waitress would’ve had a moment to clean them before handing them to us… :-/​… food for thought…
I was excited to see that they like to use local ingredients whenever possible! I love local and I love fresh… With that said, the first thing my husband ordered was orange juice, now maybe it was all in our heads, but that OJ was some of the best tasting OJ we’ve ever had! It literally made it felt like I was at my parents house picking an orange and eating it immediately, so fresh!!!
My husband ordered the special on the blackboard, a savory waffle with gravy, and I (Mrs. Plain Jane here!) ordered my usual favorite at ANY restaurant, eggs w/​cheese, potatoes, toast and the country style sausage… I still regret not getting the chorizo… Ugh!!! Hubby loved his waffle but halfway through it, he said he wished it had come with some fruit or a sweet item, besides the option of syrup, to go with it, because, he felt it was just a lot of the same thing, basically he got bored. However, he thought it was well executed, that it was super soft and moist. My dish was also pretty good, I enjoyed most of my meal, with the exception of the country sausage, there was some kind of spice in it, couldn’t tell you what, that was just throwing me off and I just couldn’t get past it, so I would try to get a bite of everything with a little bit of ketchup to help cover that spice, some may like that spice, but it was not for me, and as I stated before, I really wish I went with the chorizo, I bet it would’ve been a better choice!
As we ate our meal the waitress’ attitude seemed to improve, she just may not be a morning person, or if she was truly annoyed by the fact people were there before the «posted» time at the store, then maybe they should update their website, and they wouldn’t have that problem, or just simply don’t unlock the doors until the «posted» time. Don’t take out your personal frustrations on customers, we just came to have an experience and enjoy a well cooked meal. Shop owners, help your staff by updating your website! I would’ve given you a 4 star but your waitress’ attitude at the beginning was so discouraging that I feel I have to give a 3 star because I didn’t enjoy my time as much as I probably would’ve.
I promise to update if we ever return, but there are a lot of restaurants in Tucson that we still have to check those out before we go back to places we didn’t enjoy as much as others.

I had the green corn waffle Pueblo-​style with Chorizo. The waffle was perfectly cooked, nice kernels of corn, topped with a smidgen of chile verde. The chorizo was flavorful, but I would have liked a bigger helping.
My dining partner had the Bisbee bowl with apple-​sage sausage. She has a sensitive palate and thought the sausage was too strong with sage, but I really liked it.
The service was attentive, and our food came fairly quickly, though we were there pretty early on a Sunday morning.
Saw platters going by with bacon on it — next time I really want to try their bacon.
They have tons of interesting dishes on their menu — would like to return and explore a few more items.
Price is a little high for what you get — the Pueblo waffles which include 2 eggs and meat are over $ 12, but the quality of the food was worth it.

Really convenient location. Food is good, like their home made salsa to enrich the complexity of all the flavors.

Mother Hubbard’s is a popular weekend brunch spot BUT with just the 5 of us it took 45 minutes to 1 hour to get our food AFTER we ordered and ppl who sat down after us were getting their food before us, which was frustrating (minus 1 star)
—Green corn waffle w/​green chile: REALLY don’t understand why this is mentioned in EVERY Unilocal review. it’s nothing special, you can barely even taste the corn
—lemon poppyseed waffle: better than the green corn waffle but still nothing amazing either
—3 amigos CHRISTMAS style (with green AND red chile): 3 egg enchiladas with a side of refried beans. i loved the spicier green chile over the red but the enchiladas probably would’ve been better with meat
—huevos elysia: i only tried the corn cake (interesting smoky flavor) & chorizo (too sweet)
a cheap diner-​like breakfast/​brunch option but i’m really not a huge fan

I liken my experience at Mother Hubbard’s to being on Hawaii; good, but expect to wait. Don’t expect that a party more than 4 will be seated within an hour.
We arrived 30 minutes before the rest of our party and we waited at least an hour. We had to check our aloha spirit, for sure.
The beau was pleased with his vermillion gravy and sage biscuits. I was ok with my Huevos Elysia… however there was no soy chorizo substitution or regular Cheerwine available. Maybe due to our visit late on Sunday…

First time here and boy am I kicking myself for not dropping in sooner. Cute little place, friendly staff, quick service. But let’s talk food.
Now I really like waffles. So anytime I can get anything other than a traditional or Belgium I am excited. Well I was down right giddy about the choices here. My husband got the coconut buckwheat and I tried the blue corn and pine nuts. Both were perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside moist and fluffy on the inside with syrup on the table. Very different and both delicious. I recommend taking a buddy to share.
My husband had bacon with his waffle which was thick cut, crispy, as all bacon should be, and tasted mesquite smoked. He is still talking about that bacon.
My calabacitas scramble was fresh with corn, squash, tomatoes, a sliced
ripe avocado and I topped it with their house salsa, super fresh and tasty. Love that there are vegetarian and relatively healthy options.
We will definitely be back and add this to our list of regular breakfast spots.

How do you mess up breakfast? Simple order of eggs, bacon, and a waffle. First it took about 45 min to get, they spilled green chile on my waffle and then asked me if I wanted it still, and then when they finally gave me my breakfast the eggs were not cooked all the way, my waffle was moist, and the bacon was burned to a crisp.
I came here because the reviews were decent but I will never come back and will never recommend such a terrible experience to anyone.

Ordered the Bisbee. came w/​grits, sage sausage, an egg and melted cheese… was disappointed I walked out paying $ 12.00 with tip! Was not worth it at all. on top of that the sage sausage just tasted like regular sausage, no sage flavour at all. Overall I left feeling sad, this place would be that much better if the price points were lower. For $ 12.00 I could be eating at the Cup Café for breakfast!
Also would like to note I heard a microwave go off while my food was being made. that was horrifying

As far as dives go, it doesn’t get any better than MH’s. The food is awesome and comes out quite quickly, even when they’re slammed. Tea and coffee are brewed fresh and correctly. The servers are prompt and good at their jobs. The food is more than reasonably priced; items are more than reasonably sized. The building is run-​down and unquestionably a dive, but clean and clearly loved.
I would commit murder for one of their green corn savory waffles…
The parking lot is definitely creepy. Not a fan of the neighborhood.
Wand something yuppier and more full of itself? Hit up Prep and Pastry or Union. If you’re feeling like a dive for brunch, do it here. You won’t be disappointed.

No negative one? Bummer. This is a small wanna be hipster café that serves horrible food. I ordered sourdough pancakes oh my gosh I’ve never tasted anything that bad before. I’m Big fan of sourdough but this definitely didn’t work. It left a horrible taste in my mouth not to mention they were the thinnest pancakes I’ve ever seen, they over cooked my eggs and the bacon omg don’t get me started. My friend ordered biscuits and gravy it was so bland and thick it was like eating an uncooked biscuit with elmers glue on top and our other friend ordered a Mexican dish with scrambled eggs that were like Styrofoam. We commented to the waitress how horrible our meal was and she didn’t bat an eye and handed us our check. Never ever ever again. To much change when they moved. Yuck!!!
