Monkey Burger is a casual restaurant serving hamburgers, salads, french fries, roasted corn on the cob and fried pickles. At Monkey Burger, we use 1⁄3 lb. 100% natural Angus Beef hand-​pressed patties along with signature spices and gourmet topping combinations. Because our customers deserve the best, we use only the freshest produce, and burgers are served on rolls from Tucson’s own Bakehouse Bakery.

Business Owner

Roy Schaefer has always been drawn to the comfortable familiarity of a hometown restaurant. Born in the «old pueblo», Roy worked in his family’s restaurant since his teen years, Roy soon immersed himself in food culture managing such restaurants as Sauce Pizza and Wine, Pf Changs China Bistro. Going from family restaurant to high end chain restaurants to guiding the startup of Burger City seems like a natural progression for a young man with drive and enthusiasm and a will to succeed.). His goal is to serve the best burger and create a unique dining experience. «I look forward to coming into the restaurant every day, where I can often share a burger and soda with one of our regulars, including local chef celebrity Janos Wilder, or arts supporter and ward councilman Rodney Glassman. You never know who you’ll bump into when the atmosphere is welcoming and the food is good,» says Roy, «Remember, a burger is the all American favorite. It should always be made with love and creativity.»

Definitely a good burger, fries were delicious, and the milkshake was HUGE. Some days you just have to have a giant pile of meat, potatoes, and ice cream!
I came here for a work lunch, and it was my first visit. We made it right before a big rush, so we were served quickly and everything was fresh. It was a little messy for a work lunch, but pleased everyone. I took home half my burger and fries, but finished my shake. I wanted to nap at my desk afterward but I would definitely go back and visit again if I were on that side of town again.

Was recommended to eat here after my haircut in the plaza. Really good burger, fries were excellent, and staff was friendly as well as efficient. Nice portions (good for sharing). Iced tea was made in the store; not fountain (which I appreciate). Buns were good and fresh (nice and soft). Loads of topping selections. Definitely recommend and will return. Staff was concerned with keeping the place clean, cleared the table. and swept after each customer.
As Leah mentioned in her review the chairs are super comfortable.

We love Monkey Burger! We’ve always gotten good service and the burger selection is outstanding. Even the kid’s burgers are decent sized and fill up my daughter who has a huge appetite and usually has to order from the adult menu.
We’ve eaten at Monkey Burger several times and have never been disappointed. From the HUGE burgers to the homemade potato chips, it’s all great!
The interior is also nice and always very clean.

Located in the fancy little shopping center on Broadway, this place as fantastic burgers of which are responsibly priced. Great place to grab a bite to eat whether it’s lunch or dinner while doing some shopping.

So good!!! The burgers are creative and huge! The sides are also delicious and definitely big enough to share! The prices are also good! You have to try monkey burger!

In town for work and was in walking distance. The Monkey Burger did not disappoint. I really loved the poblano pepper addition. The sweet potato fries were good though I kind of wish I had just gone with the chips. The very friendly staff helped me pick out a local beer on tap, I failed to get the name but two went down very easy! Get the local Amber, you won’t regret it!!!
Everyone was ordering shakes/​frappes so of course I had to see what it was all about. Went for the chocolate, very thick, needed a spoon.
Good local spot I would hit up again!

I am beyond amazed by Monkey Burger. May I say first I am not a Burger-​Believer but Monkey Burger open my eyes to a whole new world. And you must order the Green Chilli Fries because its MOUTH WATERING. Hands down best place I’ve been to for burgers! LOVELOVELOVE

I was pleasantly surprised. First, it was busy on a Monday night. that is a good sign. We ordered at the counter and chose our own seat. Side note, the chairs were VERY comfortable. It was happy hour at ~6pm when we were there, $ 1 off all drinks… but it was a Monday, so I didn’t participate! I chose the turkey burger with sun dried tomato, pesto and mozzerlla cheese. VERY tasty. My husband had the Sonoran, which he really like. We both had the chips, which were home made and salted perfectly. But I later saw pictures of the fried pickles which I want to back for. This is a great local business with friendly service and reasonable prices, located in central tucson near the Williams Center.

Came here not to long ago and had the Cheddar & Bacon burger ordered medium and it was delicious ! Easily one of the better burger joints in Tucson. A must try if you’re looking for a good burger at a reasonable price !

Dude!!! Delicious. I got «el Diablo» and it had a very nice kick. The green chiles where giant.
I have to say that Monkey Burger kills Zin Burger – without a question.
The regular fried remind me of the old school Jack n The box ones that used to be so good. (Nothing else is like Jack n the Box – don’t worry).

I did not at all expect this place to be so damn good. It’s hard to find a turkey burger at most burger places, let alone one that tastes good. So finding that Monkey Burger has a big, juicy, yummy turkey burger that comes along with yummy fries definitely made me incredibly happy. And as if that wasn’t joy causing enough, their chocolate shake is amazing. I will definitely be coming back.

I friggin love this place. If you’re not into eating a massive burger, then don’t bother. As far as I’m aware, they don’t make them any smaller unless you order a kids meal.
My favorite was always the ones with chilies in it. El Diablo was their newer creation before I moved and loved every scorching bite. All of their burgers can come with house made chips or fries, but I need fries with my burger! (Although the chips are very good too)
If you need a burger, I can’t recommend this place enough. I would take Monkey Burger any day over Zinburger!

Great creative and inventive food. Good quality, nicely prepared, fast friendly service with a local business vibe. For us this stands out among many many burger joints. Kudos to the proprietors — they were packed this Sunday afternoon and it’s obvious why!

Personally I would not go back. The burger was ok. Not cooked the way I ordered it. You pre tip on your bill. Once I paid the bill no one asked how things were. The servers are too busy gossiping. The chips need salt. The burger looked so good when it was delivered. Very disappointed.

Hadn’t been here before, part;ly because it’s way over on the East side, but have been making it a point to try a different burger place each time I’m in town.
Didn’t really know what to try, so went with the eponymous burger. Asked for rare, and got it rare, which is worth a star and a half right there. Most places ask and then totally ignore your request. Fresh tomato, crispy lettuce and onions, Bacon, chiles. Good grief, this thing had it all. No wonder it was so big, And great homemade chips to boot.
Really nice vibe to the place also. Not all crammed together as are some places. Great music. And a staff that appreciated your being there.
Hey, what else can I say. Give this place a try. You won’t be disappointed,

I feel bad that I only thought that this place was a three. The service was fine. I didn’t like the chips. I didn’t like my pineapple burger thing. I forgot what it was called. I was a super fatty mcfatterson and drank half of my husband’s strawberry shake. Two stars for the shake, one full star for the bouncy chairs. They are like trampolines for your booty! I love them!
Bah. I have to add a fourth star to these green chili fries that were also my husband’s. They were pretty incredible. My three star rating has now jumped into a four star because my husband is amazing at ordering food. Married because he’s incredible, keeping him to steal his lunch.

The chairs! Awkward, and then… excellent.
We had excellent service, especially for a place where you order at a counter.
The burgers were good. Not out of this world good but respectable and there’s a lot of choice. The fries are delightful and it comes with a lot of them. Toppings are also generous, which is a big part of how I judge burgers.
I became unnaturally happy with the offering of prickly pear tea when you order a drink. I know it’s not impossible to find but it’s not often you find it in the carafes for fill-​your-​own fountain stations.

Excellent blue cheese burger! You can tell they use quality blue cheese. Burger was moist and juicy and the blue cheese was rich. I upgraded my fries to cross cut sweet potato fries and they were excellent.
Of course I added a banana milkshake which was not too sweet and not too banana-​ie.
