Specialties
Mobile Meals of Tucson helps elderly and disabled adults to continue living independently in their own homes, avoiding the high emotional and financial cost of a nursing home, by delivering medically-tailored meals to clients five days a week. We serve most of Tucson, as well as nearby Sahuarita and Green Valley. We receive no state or federal funding.
Mobile Meals of Tucson provides:
–Daily meal delivery to clients’ homes to ensure adequate nourishment and maintain strength;
–Medically-tailored diets to improve physical health and help clients manage chronic illnesses; and
–Regular socialization with volunteers to reduce isolation and increase sense of connectedness.
History
Established in 1970.
For 45 years, Mobile Meals of Tucson has filled a unique service gap in our community by providing health services that other meal programs do not. Specifically, we serve adults of all ages who require special diet meals such as diabetic, renal, cardiac, mechanical soft or liquid.
Last year Mobile Meals volunteers delivered 100,000 meals to over 800 elderly and disabled adults who are struggling to maintain their independence and stay living in their homes.
A Tucson-born organization, Mobile Meals was formed locally by a group of local business leaders, healthcare professionals, and concerned community members. Our mission is accomplished with support from local businesses, community volunteers, and nine local hospitals and healthcare facilities who prepare low-cost, special diet meals for our clients.
