History
Established in 1922.
Main Gate Square celebrates its rich history
as one of the oldest shopping districts
in Tucson, dating back to 1922 when
Louise Marshall, the first female professor at
the UA, built the first stores at Park and University.
Today, the Marshall Foundation owns
and manages most of the two block area between
Park and Euclid on University. Over
the years, the non-profit Marshall Foundation
has contributed over $ 18 million to more
than 200 local charities and organizations, and
to the UA for scholarships and special projects.
Back then, Mrs. Marshall had a vision
of a place that offered all a person could
want for shopping and entertainment.
