Down on the Farm CSA

Note this is a CSA, you basically buy a membership to get access to the fresh fruit and veg that is available that week. The farmer and her family, Carol, box it all up. You pick a pickup location, and you go get your box of goodies weekly. Their normal sessions are 3 months (13 weeks) long, and cost about $ 20 a week — $ 250. I went with the full year for $ 600. Sessions are March-​May, June-​August, September-​November, and December-​February.
I’ve been looking around for a CSA that had both good prices and a convenient pickup location for me. I read about Down on the Farm at localharvest and decided to check out their website. Yesterday, Carol called me and told me about the membership specials they were running, so I decided to go for it. I visited the farm today and was given my first box of produce, including:
a couple of tomatoes
some zucchini and Mexican squash
a bunch of green onions
new potatoes
eggs
a cantaloupe
some eggplant
a bunch of mustard greens
some lettuce
They offer a few different pickup locations, including Carol’s house (which is listed here) on Fridays from 3:00 — 6:00, and in the Artist’s village on Ft. Lowell and Dodge on Saturdays from 10:00am-1:00pm
They’re also signing a lease on the old Chinese restaurant at Grant and Craycroft for use as a central distribution point and to offer classes in canning and preserving, sausage, cheese, bread, tamale, butter and soap making.
There’s also a fish pond stocked with bluegill and catfish, and Carol is working on getting relationships set up with various backyard growers around town.
