Bob’s Bug Barn

Bob is a lifesaver! While travelling cross-​country in my ’69 Westy, I had a breakdown in Tucson. Although Bob works by appointment only, he squeezed me in, and rebuilt my engine at a great price. He even let us camp in his yard while the work was done! Since we were there for over a week, we met a lot of Bob’s regular customers, and they all told us how lucky we were to find Bob! They couldn’t say enough good things about him, and after our experience with him, we couldn’t agree more! Before we left, Bob told me to call if I had any problems or questions, I called with an issue from California, and he was very helpful and even gave me his cell phone number! 1500 miles on that engine now and still going strong! If you’re in Tucson and need anything for your aircooled ride, bob’s the man to call. If you’re in Phoenix and need a good mechanic, Bob’s worth the drive or tow! Tell him Pearl the Bus sent you!

We were on a road trip in Morenci AZ when the clutch in our 1984 Westfalia decided to give out. We called Bob, he listened carefully and agreed to accept the tow from hours away. We slept in the van in an industrial part of Tucson arriving late at night. In the morning we were worried since it was New Year’s Eve and chances of making it back home due to the holidays seemed remote. Bob delighted us by telling us that he ordered the part yesterday based on what we discussed. Yes! His very abled mechanic Pete worked diligently all morning and we were back on the road by 1:30! Wow. We were expecting to be stranded for a couple days there. Bob & Pete were great! Reasonable & fair priced. Extremely knowledgeable mechanics and just really great people. I can’t thank them enough for saving us and caring about making sure we got home safe.

I recently got a 1968 Bug for a fun project and to be my new daily driver.
Word of mouth lead me to Bob’s Bug barn and Bob himself.
You’d be hard pressed to find a friendlier, more helpful and respectful or knowledgeable individual. The day I met the man, he gave me a not terribly hard to find, but not quite readily available part that I needed to repair my speedometer at no charge and advised me to purchase another item I needed elsewhere not because he couldn’t or didn’t want to get it for me, but because it would be less expense to me to do so.
So far he’s been happy to offer advice and share his experience with me the couple of times I have picked his brain.
I have definitely found my go to VW shop and have no reason to look elsewhere for any future needs.

This is currently the best auto repair shop for air-​cooled Volkswagens in Tucson. Bob has years of experience and is one of the few people left in the state of Arizona who will still take the time to rebuild your engine — moreover, he does it with care, replacing every gasket with German parts wherever possible. He’ll also do custom work and is skilled at tricking out your VW to make it more comfortable and a smoother ride. He’s trustworthy and good at diagnostics, and everyone in town has a nice word to say about him.
