ABC Pet Care Clinic

Run, dont walk, run from here. I went here for a leg X-​ray for my limping dog because it was the most affordable and I wanted it ASAP.
Firstly, the whole place reeked of urine. The pungent stench practically burned my nose hairs walking back to the exam room. Creeped out from the start I wondered how clean this place is. The technician had zero personality, curt even, as if dealing with dogs were just a necessary task to be dealt with. The vet, on the other hand was so goofy and awkward it was hard to develop confidence.
I said I have an appt with her regular vet in 10 days and just wanted an xray, that’s all. Well, there was no way around their «exam fee» which I guess is understandable if they did more than a 2 minute check. I said if you must charge me for an exam then please give her a thorough exam. So the curt tech gets the office manager to come in and chew me out for questioning the quality of his exam.
Oh well, on to the X-​ray. It was THE MOST RIDICULOUS excuse for an x-​ray you could possibly imagine. Their machine (or the operator) is so bad that the leg looked like multiple slices of x-​rays all pieced together crookedly! As if my dog’s leg was broken jaggedly many times.
I have since showed it to two vets, her regular vet and her new integrated med doc. Both were disturbed by the quality (or lack thereof) of the x-​ray having to closely study it for some time to ascertain what it actually reveals.
The entire experience was malpractice in my opinion.

First time visit here and it was a great experience. All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I love that there’s no appointment needed. Definitely recommend this place.

I had used this vet clinic in the past for my son’s dog, and was dually impressed. When my tonkenese seemed to be getting worse with her renal failure, I brought her to the clinic for some help. Dr Groves is amazing. She genuinely cares about my cat and has helped me figure out how we can sustain her without breaking the bank. Dr Groves has been very creative and helping find a solution to keep Hatti at home and happy. In 3 weeks time, under Dr Groves care, she has gained 1.5 pounds, eats like a tiger and is a happy purr baby. Thank you to Dr Groves and all the staff.

I have taken my dog here a few times for his shots and the ladies in the front where nice and so where the ones in the back. But, anytime you call you are put on hold for a long time wiht out anyone checking on the phone with you and they always say «Someone else is on the computer»… seems as if they all share a computer by how long you are on hold for. If you go to them they are good, when it comes to asking questions on the phone I would say save your time and go in.

This was my second visit to this particular ABC. This time i had two young cats that needed rabies (3 year) and FVRCPC shots. This clinic is always busy, no appointment needed but that can mean a little wait sometimes. Today we were greeted immediately, both cats were taken to the ‘back’ so they would not be stressed by all the dogs, I was ushered into a beautifully cool room to complete my paperwork. We were seen promptly by a very pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful vet and her tech. Both cats were weighed, examined and given their shots all for a quarter of the price I would have paid at my local vets office. I am delighted with the service and the care at this clinic, thoroughly recommend it.
The Craycroft and 22^nd street clinic is also very good. I had one of my cats spayed there and the care she received was fabulous. Everything you would hope for and expect from a veterinary office at a fraction of the cost. I took one of my geriatric cats in last week, he had an exam, a full blood work up and urinalysis, the news was not fabulous but was delivered efficiently and again at a fraction of the cost my local vet would have charged.
This is great for ‘pet parents’ in Tucson, no excuse to not spay or neuter, plus all the necessary shots for their good health are affordable.

This clinic is fantastic!!! Everyone who works there is super nice! They were excellent with my lil pug… he loved the vet and tech and didnt even know he got his shot! I was charged exactly what I was quoted too… super awesome!!!

We took our puppy here several times for her shots, get her microchip and nail trims. Everything at very reasonable prices. Even though Saturdays are very busy, the staff was always very nice and attentive. Always responding our questions and giving us advice.
When we moved out of Tucson and needed our puppy’s vaccination record for one of the hotels where we were staying, I gave the clinic a call and they faxed them immediately to the hotel.
This is great place to take your pet if you don’t mind the waiting (on Saturdays, at least) or can’t afford the costs in other vet clinics. Hope we can find a clinic like this in our new home.

BAIT AND SWITCH? Read Erika M’s review. I too was quoted a much, much lower price over the phone than the in-​office estimate. And the detailed information I gave them over the phone was the same that I gave them in person.
In general, I don’t have a high opinion of vet clinics in Tucson as I feel their reason for existence is to engineer the gouging of soppy pet owners. This is why I always attempt to get n estimate, for all the good it does me when the practice tries to get youin the door with misleading prices.
I’m going back to Santa Cruz Vet on the south side. Even though It’s not as convenient, they don’t lie about the prices and are truly low-​cost.
UPDATE: One of the owners texted me after this review appeared. I stand by my review. If my experience was unique, I might be willing to chalk it up as «a misunderstanding.»
I was referred to this clinic by their sister clinic on Craycroft. While getting vaccines for my dogs, the vet noticed that my little dog was overweight, which wasn’t news to me, but my attempts at giving higher fiber food, dieting, etc had failed with this dog. The vet suggested that she be tested for an underactive thyroid. When I called this clinic I explained all of this on the phone and asked for estimates for the visit ($ 29) the thyroid test ($ 45) and the meds for one month ($ 15). I also said the dog was booty-​scooting and needed her anal glands cleaned. That added up to $ 89. Wheni got to the office the estimate I got for the test was now $ 120and the anal glands would add $ 25 to the bill. When I asked about the difference in the test prices, I was told that even if the in-​house lab test showed low levels of thyroid they still needed the other lab test. I asked why they offered the in-​house lab test if it was no good? They said that was used as a follow up test. Ok, fine, but wouldn’t you want the $ 120 test again? I assumed the final price would be more than the estimate, but not more than $ 115 more. I’m not against businesses making a profit. Charge what you want. Just be upfront about it. I have to stick to a budget and can’t end up with an unlimited bill. I had to turn their test down because I didn’t have the extra cas h with me.
The owners need to pose as potential customers and see what their employees are saying over the phone about prices. Maybe they also have to ask themselves if they are putting undue pressure on their employees to convert every call into an office visit.

I like the no wait, but they forgot us in a waiting room last time, then never called with test results. So holding off my judgements.
Less expensive than anyone else, and not over booked.
Second visit, floor had blood and wet urine on it. The little guy who took the history seemed frightened and confused.
They sent me to Reeds to fill my dogs prescriptions, and Reeds said it is ¹⁄₈^th of the cost at Walgreens!
I WANT to love this place, it is SO inexpensive, and the owners are SO nice. But If I’m being honest it’s a 3. Ok, maybe a 2, but cheap, and usually no wait to get in. Usually a wait to pay of up to ½ an hour!

The owner called me, after discussing it a lot was a simple misunderstanding, and I don’t know if I can hold them totally accountable. I feel all my concerns were addressed, and then some, I felt HEARD! And I like it!
I will be loyal, and I will be more proactive about listening and questioning.
Glad my desire to have them be my go to vet was supported!

This clinic KILLED my dog HARLEY yesterday! I took him in for a dental cleaning, when I picked him up at 2:30 PM he could not even walk I had to carry him to the car! After being home for a couple of hours I called ABC back and told them that HARLEY wasn’t doing good, his tounge was still sticking out and he still wasn’t getting up, they told me he would be GROGGY for a while and he would be OK. An hour later I called their emergency clinc which is PIMA PET CARE, they told me that they did not know what ABC clinic had done to HARLEY and that they could not help us!
We ended up having to take HARLEY to VSCT animal hospital. those people did everything they could do to SAVE HARLEY but it was to late HARLEY had DIED!!!
DO NOT take your pet to ABC LOW COST PET CARE clinic if you want your pet to live afterwards!!! Thanks ABC for KILLING my dog HARLEY!!!

This place is a low cost option for those who want their cat and dog to see a vet. However, before I explain anything else please note that they give quotes that are much lower than the final bill. I witnessed another visitor lose her cool with the staff for this reason. I knew they were going to do this so I saved extra money in anticipation for a hefty (but more affordable than your average vet) bill. They quoted $ 130 but my bill was $ 239.
Therefore, if you are quoted an amount over the phone DON’T expect it as the final amount. Also, when I came back to pick up my animal the staff did not give me any over all info about how to care for my pet after surgery. They gave us the medicine our pet needed and told us the basic instructions and that’s all. If I have to ask twenty questions and your staff won’t hand us a sheet of paper with care instructions then you might want to think about telling the front desk to do so.
They really are the most affordable, in my opinion, than anyone else in town. They have a small facility and they are located in the center of town. They were able to to schedule a same week appointment for my cat to get a few tooth extractions. They are open from 7am-​4pm. I only found out about this place from the ABC clinic on Craycroft and 22^nd. This clinic is different from the others since they offer more services.
