A Day ‘n Night Salon & Spa

Worst manicure I ever had, but to be fair, it was over a year ago. The elderly lady was fumbling through a dirty oversized bag pulling out her tools of the trade. I was smiling and being very polite, the whole time screaming in my head «RUN, get out NOW»! The entire process and experience was far from relaxing or clean. I figured id tuff through it, ended up with mangled cuticles, and a paint job that was similar to my 4 year old nieces. Hey!!! She’s a kid, it’s ok, she’s still learning, this lady however, really needs stronger glasses and less of what ever was making her do that jitter thing.

I received a gift certificate for an hour massage & mini facial. I’ll start by saying I have only ever been to one other spa. My expectations were not met as far as relaxation and ambiance but the massage and facial were decent. When I walked in, I was greeted by a big fluffy dog. I don’t mind, I’m a dog person but it wasn’t expected. The lady at the desk was friendly and set me up with a masseuse. I was given the tour as we went through the salon area, into a courtyard, and back into a two story building. Went back to the Polynesian room. It was dim and there was some music playing on a boom box in the corner. It was like an Irish jig on a cd that skipped about 10 beats at the beginning of each track. Not very relaxing but, eh, free massage, I rolled with it. Laid down to wait for the masseuse to come back in. The massage was good, went for an hour. Back, arms, legs, feet, hands, neck.
The facial was ok, it was a lot of warm towels and an exfoliant, a bright light back and forth in my face with a magnifier on it– though I don’t know why. Then she painted on some really cold stuff, a mask of some sort. More hot towels for the finish. Nothing used had any smell so I don’t know what it was. I showered when I got home anyway.
I was given a glass of water– like the free coke glasses mcdonalds gives away. I was invited to sit by the fire or on the patio to relax before leaving. I chugged the water while checking out the turtles in the fountain. The lady at checkout was very nice again.
So there were some things I noticed that seemed like easy fixes. The hand towels in the bathroom were all stained and the trash can was jammed between the pot and the sink and I was partially sitting on it (sorry). The ceiling fan in the massage room was pretty dirty– like fluffy black stuff on the blades. I’m also 90% sure the masseuse passed some audible gas. Get a new, and actually relaxing CD.
Not a terrible experience. I am glad I took a friend’s advice when I told her I was going to day n nite spa: «go in the day». I was the second client in for the day.

Had a mani-​pedi done here. Was a little nervous walking in but once you get inside everyone was super approachable and nice. LOVED the ambience. Very different from any other salon. Debra, who did my nails, was fantastic, very easy to talk to and knowledgeable about her products. The fire place was a great addition, very relaxing. Also enjoyed the infused water. Will be coming back for a facial and massage in the future. The owner, Linda, was very nice and easy going. Fingers and toes look perfect. Highly recommended.

Wow, this place is Tucson quirky fun. Quirky, the operative word.
I was looking for a place for a girls evening with my friend. It had to be later in the evening to match up our family schedules. I didn’t think there was a chance I’d find something open after 7 pm. But! Let’s take a shot.
BOOM. Got a hit – Day n’ Night open till 9 pm. I booked us two pedicures at 8 pm. If nothing else, finding a place open for pedicures this late, I’d go back.
The business was dark inside, I was worried it was closed. But there was two very nice, friendly guys working at the desk who were very fun. The salon part was closed, but apparently there was a separate building in the back where they could do the pedicures. I had one of the guys, and my friend had another lady who came in.
This is not the massage chair experience of the typical places I frequent. I sat in a regular (uncomfortable) chair, with a bucket of water in front of me. The tech’s sat on these little moving cart things. That also was uncomfortable, as every time I put my foot up on the perch I would push him back… so I really had to use my own strength to keep my foot lightly perched without putting any weight against it.
It didn’t seem like either of them did pedicures often, unless the traditional «pop in» type places or even the higher-​end gadabouts where the staff typically specialize in one thing. The guy working on my feet said he could even do a haircut after if I would like.
Bottom line, I could get a much better pedicure in a «walk in» place – more comfortable atmosphere, massage chairs, etc… and for $ 5 – 10 less than their $ 30 charge. BUT, what they lacked in pedi-​skills they made up for in fun and personality. And the most important thing… not great, but it is open LATE!

I bought the Living Social deal for a gel manicure before reading the Unilocal reviews for this place. Big mistake.
My nail technician, Robert, was wonderful (by far the best gel manicure I’ve ever gotten), but unfortunately I won’t be back to see him because this «spa» is disgusting and horribly mismanaged. The floors were dirty and covered in scraps and crumbs… probably left there by the many children who were running around the salon knocking things over. The towels on the nail station were old and dingy, all of the appliances looked really old and dirty, and the room reeked of cigarette smoke. I was so disgusted that I felt compelled to ask my technician whether they sanitize their tools after every client.
I arrived while another woman was receiving a gel manicure from a female nail technician whose name I didn’t catch. The nail technician’s adult daughter was there and kept interrupting the appointment («Mom! MOM!») to talk about how much weight she’d lost recently and to bitch about her friends. The nail technician allowed her granddaughter to jump all over her WHILE she was giving a manicure, causing her to have to re-​do a few of the client’s nails. After the client left, the technician went on and on about what a bad job she’d done, but it was probably okay since the woman didn’t complain. So unprofessional.
During my appointment, the owner came by to introduce herself. While Robert was doing my nails, she handed me a DIFFERENT technician’s card and told me how good she is. What kind of person scoops her own employees?!
Do NOT go to this salon, no matter how good the deals are.
(Side note: Like one of the other commenters, I felt compelled to join Unilocal just to write a review about this place.)

After reading so many negative reviews, I was hesitant to schedule an appointment to use the massage groupon I’d been given. Yes, the place is tacky. You can hear salon noise in the massage room and I had the same skipping cd as another reviewer. And the ‘tropical’ Sea Breeze room has AstroTurf in it (no, I’m not kidding). I arrived at 9:50 for a 10am massage, but the employees didn’t show until 9:59. But the massage was… pretty good. Not all that relaxing (more on the vigorous side) but Betty made more headway on a recurring knot I have than most therapists. Would I go back, probably not. But I’m not horrified or anything either.

I like how the Unilocal description of one star is «Eek! Methinks not,» because that is exactly how I felt in this place. The exterior looks a little shady, but I’ve gotten great service in several Tucson businesses that maybe didn’t have curb appeal, so I tried to look past that. I bought a Groupon for a cut and deep condition. I arrived promptly for my appointment and had to wait about 15 minutes before the owner got to me, which I didn’t really mind. Several of the employees were not well presented, many of them were wearing sweatpants; no, I am not joking or exaggerating. I get that Tucson is the ultimate in business casual, but sweatpants? There was a lot of hustle and bustle as they were offering some sort of couples massage event with a «sweethearts’ buffet» of food.
The owner washed my hair, left me sitting at the sink with shampoo in for several minutes and then brought me back to her chair and starting cutting without the deep condition that was included in my Groupon. I thought maybe it was a leave-​in product or something, but no, my hair never got any type of conditioner. The owner really didn’t talk much to me as she was giving other employees orders to get the couples’ event set up. When a male client walked in who seemed to be a friend of hers, she asked if I was single, because she’d been «trying to hook him up forever.» The man must’ve been 20 years older than me; regardless of his age or appearance, I found that super inappropriate. The owner was apparently too busy to style my hair (which cost extra), so she passed me off to another stylist to blow dry and style it. It was super snarly and dry because it wasn’t conditioned. Both stylists did an okay job, but it was clear I was not a priority but an inconvenience to their busy day. Neither really asked my opinion on what I wanted, other than a general length assessment, but kind of did their own thing, which didn’t bother me much, because I’m not really peculiar about my hair. I do know some people are though. Some of my layers are uneven though; it’s not super noticeable, but I had to even it out when I got home. Also, the owner kept trying to upsell services the entire time, trying to get me to do foil highlights and a brow wax.
I also got a hot herbal pedicure with Laura. She did a good job and was pleasant, but they had scheduled her appointments too close together and I had to wait a while before she got to me. I didn’t get the hot towels that were supposed to be included and I’m not really sure what was «herbal» about it, but for $ 30, I didn’t really care. The setup isn’t very pleasant. The nail area is a sort of living room in a guest house so several people were waiting there and walking through and chatting, which isn’t super relaxing, and you’re kind of on display. One of the massage therapists (also donning sweatpants) was voicing her complaints about another client to some employees and swearing. I’ve been in the service industry. I understand some people can be difficult, but there’s no reason to complain about your «b****» customer, who you «don’t give a f***» about in front of other clients and your employer. It was unreal.
They advertise their stimulus menu, which is half-​price on most services. In my opinion, saving a few bucks is not worth a visit to A Day ‘N Nite Salon and Spa. Apparently, others feel differently, because this place has been open for quite some time. If you’re looking for a bargain, you’re better off going to Cost Cutters or a Vietnamese nail salon in a strip mall.
I reviewed Day ‘N Nite on Groupon as well and the owner replied with the following. Wow, what a classy lady. This only reaffirms my belief that this is the least professional business I’ve ever encountered. This is her direct response and has not been altered. She’s flat out lying about the conditioner, unless she has a magic comb that distributes conditioning treatment.
«I clarified you hair because you had build up and in order to give you an intensive conditioner with the J Beverly Hills Rescue which I comb thru while cutting as it penetrates the shaft, is why you sat for a minute or two at the shampoo bowl! Your review is unwarranted but then everybody is subject to their own opinions. Perhaps you need to let loose a little and not be wound so tight. You look older than you are, no offense but you should have been flattered so sorry for the effort of trying to hook my friend up but I am a cupid at heart. Just because some people are more comfortable wearing nice sweat pants doesn’t mean they are getto either! Don’t sweat the small stuff chick~ Your cut was a razor master cut and was supposed to be uneven but your blow out to me left the cut to be undesirable. I was disappointed in his style:(Sorry you would never come back but then again perhaps we don’t want prudish clientele such as yourself.»

My wife bought a groupon for a couples massage to A Day ’ Night salon and spa and it was great. she had been here a couple of times before since they offered a killer 50% off student and military discount which they have now extended to the public. Due to the hectic schedule of the holidays we had to cancel our appointments three times, the staff was very easy to work with in our rescheduling. When we arrived for our appointment we were offered complimentary tea and sat in front of a warm fire while we waited for our massage. We were then brought into a quiet private room with relaxing sounds of nature soundtrack playing. If you like a deep tissue message ask for Betty, she found the tender spots that needed working and I will be requesting her next time I go in.

I’ve never left a review before but I felt compelled to after my experience today. I learned a big lesson: you get what you pay for, and I’m not trusting this salon with my business anymore.
I’ve been here twice before for massages. Once a few years ago was okay, nothing special. Again last fall and it was subpar. They have a zillion signs around about their 50% off menu (an improvement over some confusing membership thing they were trying to sell before) — but their services are worth AT MOST that 50% off price. AT MOST.
But for some reason I was willing to give them a try for a haircut. I got a groupon for a shampoo & cut. I thought it included a blowdry (as other groupons I’ve purchased for the same price have) but it didn’t. I made the appointment and the owner said she’d do my hair because I have curly hair and was concerned it would come out right. (Not everyone can do curly hair correctly.)
I arrived 10 minutes early. She was finishing up the previous client and offered me a massage chair to sit. Cool! But not really. It was wedged in an awkward closet-​sized area, covered with a folding screen. Only one of the functions on the chair worked and it hurt my back so I shut it off.
About 10 minutes after my appointment time a guy got me to wash my hair. He started WASHING IT WITH COLD WATER. When I said it was cold, he asked, «Oh, you want it warm?» He made it lukewarm and asked if I needed it hotter. I did. He started washing and asking me how I wanted my hair cut. I got confused and said I thought the owner was doing it. They had a back and forth — are you doing it? I can if you want? Do you want to? I said I’d never had a cut here before and wanted to make sure my hair turned out right. She then said she’d do it.
At this point I was annoyed but willing to move forward. Then she started washing my hair. It was very rough and mechanical, with no gentleness or care. I started feeling uncomfortable. She asked me how I wanted my hair cut, reviewing what we talked about on the phone. I like when someone asks questions, but it felt like she wasn’t getting what I was saying. I kept saying the same thing over, and its not a complicated style (long hair with long layers).
Then she said because my hair is long, its extra. I said I had a groupon, and she said it was on the groupon. IT IS NOT ON THE GROUPON, NOR DID SHE TELL ME OVER THE PHONE. I got upset and she said not to worry, they’d waive it this time.
At this point I didn’t trust her to cut my hair, so while she was rinsing I said nevermind, I want to go. She asked why and I said this just wasn’t the experience I was looking for. I didn’t want to go through and name each little point. IT WASN’T ANY ONE THING, IT WAS SO MANY LITTLE THINGS — I could have ignored any one or two of these, but it was just too much. Or rather, too little attention to the details — that’s the difference between a so-​so experience and a great one.
THEN she said, «Well you can’t just get a shampoo and leave!» I said, «Yes I can.» She said, «Well you can, but that’s weird, isn’t it?» I reiterated that I was leaving. I wasn’t being b*tchy, I was just talking matter of factly. Then she acted EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL — she swung her towel toward the door and told me to leave then. I looked at her in disbelief that a middle aged grown woman was acting so childish, and said I wasn’t coming back. She said, «NO SHIT!»
I left but had to come back to get my jacket. She was walking out of the staff room saying, «Yeah, I really have to be better sometimes.» Then she looked at me as if nothing had happened.
I’m generally a laid back person… I may have been a little edgy today but I don’t think I acted in any way to warrant this type of treatment. Like I said, I’ve NEVER written an online review before wanted to warn others against wasting their time and money. Looks like I’m not the only one who feels this way!
The place looks like they spent all their money on jungle décor. There’s only a handful of parking spots and with their pushiness and zillions of signs (like the one in the waiting area saying blowdrys are $ 1/​minute) it seems like they’re desperate for business.
I’m going to Regis — I always get a quality cut and great treatment.

Let me start with having an appt at 11:30 and was told it was11. I had to be out of there before 12:30.
I was taken in at 11:45 with a lot of apologies which was fine. I had purchased a Living Social for a Sellac Manicure and Food Scrub. The girl didn’t seem like she knew what she was doing. She kept saying she had done this several times but I have years of Manicure behind me and I know when someone is not secure on what they are doing. She would polish one nail and hit the previous one, she would clean around with a large wood pick and hit the nail, having to repair. She put a large amount of nail polish and it would wrinkle and look like I had smashed it. She tried 2 nails polishes and after 3 soaks I came home with horrible nails. Not counting that it was already 1pm.
Then came the Mexican guy for Pedicure. No cuticles cleaned, no scrub, very poor polish on the nails. Seriously, I went to Expert Nails on Sunday to get it redone and the lady could not believe I had just gotten it done the previous day.

I also kept driving by and was lured in by special rates. But I learned that you do indeed get what you pay for. I got a massage, facial, and pedicure. The pressure was either too hard to too light, and the masseuse wouldn’t seem to listen to my concerns. I felt extremely insulted by her as well. She did nothing but point out my «problem areas» and then try and sell me expensive products to fix them. She actually asked me if I had a hormone imbalance!!! I left this place feeling like crap, and pondering weather or not I should walk around with a bag over my head. Another thing was that she was selling not only the products but trying to sell me on becoming a distributor on my own. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I had these procedures on my birthday and she knew it. I felt like I was in a sales pitch that I couldn’t escape. My advice is to spend a little bit more and you will have a better experience, I wish I had..

This place was… okay. My boyfriend and I got a Groupon for a couples massage with a wine & cheese plate while we were living in Tucson, and thought it would be a relaxing thing to do together. We made the appointment for a Saturday evening and arrived on time. Here’s what ensued:
First, the parking lot is a little funky. Be warned.
Second, we were told to wait outside in their courtyard area. It was cute and kitschy, but a little strange, and we probably waited about 15 minutes.
Then we went into our massage room, which had a good atmosphere. However, my boyfriend’s massage therapist didn’t use nearly enough pressure, and throughout the entire hour, SEVERAL loud noises kept disrupting us and waking us up from the semi-​conscious state you can often go into during a massage. I think it was their washer and dryer banging against the wall next to us, and at one point, the mechanic door to the upstairs balcony closed, causing a creaking and slamming noise. Needless to say, I was not at peace, or relaxed after being woken up 5 – 6 times by these noises.
You’d think that with services going on, they would wait until patrons were gone to run the washer/​dryer or close mechanic doors. But I guess it was really our fault for booking a time while they were still open???
Our wine was only decent, and the cheese plate was kind of a joke. Plus, they set us up in front of the fire place, which was nice, but the only thing blocking us from the other patrons getting nails done was one of those makeshift walls/​privacy screens (the folding kind that people can change behind). We had about 3 feet of space, and I felt more uncomfortable than relaxed.
To top it all off, the guy behind the front desk was rather pushy in trying to get us to book another service, which we obviously weren’t going to do.
Come to think of it, I’m not sure why I’m even giving this place 2 stars… I guess just for the price.

I had a very bad experience at this facility and would caution anyone about going. I am an athlete and have sustained a bad injury from my massage (shoulder injury). I did try to connect with the owner with a very friendly and non threatening email to let her know and her email response basically told me that the injury was because I am an athlete and more or less pointed the finger back at me — she did not ask me what happened, which concerns me most. I would expect that if she cares about her clients, she would want to know what her therapist did to me to cause such an injury. I am in PT 5 – 6 x a week right now, just trying to stay functional so I can do my job because of this injury. PLEASE be careful going to this «spa.»

I have gone to A Day and Nite Day Spa twice. Both experiences were overall good. I was greeted by the staff and offered water. The first time there was a scheduling mix up, so I waited about 5 to 10 mins until a person was free. But the wait was worth it. I got a wonderful masseuse. I felt like walking jello after the massage. I went back a second time because the masseuse did a excellent job and I could feel the difference in my body.
The only thing that I did not like was I could hear everything through the thin walls. The music did not drown out outside conversations.
If you are looking for a reasonably priced massage, I would recommend this place.

I kept driving by this place and seeing banners for special rates so i finally booked a massage. On the phone they were quite polite and were able to get me in right away at a great seasonal rate – it was $ 34 for an hour massage!
I am giving this place a two star rating because, while the massage itself was decent and the masseuse addressed my problem areas, I thought the ambiance was lacking and they skimped on using decent products. When we first crossed the quaint tiki patio and got to the massage room, I noticed that the area was clean but that it smelled like bathroom cleaning products instead of a spa. My biggest let-​down was that the masseuse used «Equate baby oil gel» instead of a massage oil or lotion. This left me feeling very greasy after my massage, and I worried about ruining my clothes – in fact, when I got home, I had to towel off excess baby oil. The CD that was playing kept skipping and eventually stopped so there was no music for the last third of my session.
If you need a quick rub-​down this wouldn’t be too bad, but I have to admit that I’ve gotten better rubs at massage schools. My masseuse seemed a bit brusque and hurried, but I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to the fact that I was the last client of the day.
Edit: I went back because I got an email for a freebie massage and although the massage was better (the masseuse was friendlier and actually used real massage lotion this time), the ambiance was the same and they were running the washing machine/​dryer this time, which was right outside my room.
