Specialties
Welcome to Canine Country,
We are a Family owned canine training and boarding facility in Tualatin, Oregon with over 40 years experience in the care and training of dogs and multiple dog packs giving us the unique opportunity to develop a training philosophy and program based on «The Dog Way» instead of our human way. We use no choke chains, training collars of any kind, treats, clickers or other training devices as motivational bases for any of our training or boarding philosophies or education for either our dogs or their human companions. With the proper use of this philosophy you will learn to effectively create an unquestionable position of trust, respect, and authority with your dog giving you the right to make all rules for your dog, modify any unwanted behaviors and perpetuate desired behaviors. A benefit of establishing and maintaining yourself as a leader with your dog is a significant reduction in confusion, stress and anxiety resulting in a much happier and healthier dog
History
Established in 1980.
After several years of personal education and instruction from /with several other world class trainers and a lifetime of continuing and extensive experimentation with every form and philosophy of training and every training device known or available, and taking each of those to a level of at least expert level, we are in the unique position of truly understanding what REALLY works and why.
Meet the Business Owner
Shawn R.
Business Owner
«Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.»
–Roger Caras
Shawn’s calling to be a dog trainer was destiny. He grew up with an ever-changing menagerie of domestic animals– dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, rats, snakes– which he trained and often brought along with the family on outings. Even as a teenager he was constantly asked about his well-behaved dog Maton, and eventually someone offered to pay Shawn to train their dog. The dye was cast.
For years Shawn refined his dog training methods, realizing very early on that punitive tactics like shock collars, training collars, clickers and treats weren’t the answer. He apprenticed with acclaimed trainer Luther T. Evans. During that time Shawn realized the key was fully understanding dog behavior in the pack setting, and began to develop his own unique and guaranteed training technique «The Dogs Way» which works with the dogs, not against them. For nearly four decades Shawn has successful trained and boarded.
