Our shop specializes in high-​quality used books in all categories including children’s books. We offer an especially good selection of classics, southern fiction and mysteries as well as great nonfiction titles. Prices are very reasonable.

History

Established in 1997.

The Village Book Shoppe opened its doors in 1997, and has since become a Maple Street landmark with its designation as «a readers’ bookstore.» The owners pride themselves on the store’s ambience where comfortable chairs invite browsers to stay a while. The store has been a growing-​up place for the owners’ children and so a wonderful children’s section filled with classic literature has evolved over the years.

Meet the Business Owner

Gina M.

Business Owner

A lifelong lover of literature, it was Gina’s wish after a few years as a journalist to open a bookstore in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. A daughter was born four days after the store opened and another in 2000 so that the store has been alive with youthful energy and love of children’s literature ever since.

When not minding the store or the children or reading from a towering stack of «borrowed from the store» titles, Gina writes poetry and fiction.
