Village at Northstar-at-Tahoe

Great experience! Excellent service, clean accommodations, good restaurants.

I had a fantastic experience at the Northstar rental shop in the village. I had the unfortunate experience of not testing my new bindings with my old boots (amateur hour over here). I had to head all the way back down the slopes and to the shop. Jordan was an absolute gem and helped get me some great bindings and back up on the mountain in no time. These guys have excellent customer service and I can’t thank them enough for their help!

I am writing this review for Northstar Village Demos– They are the ski and board demo shop at mid mountain. I had been boarding over NYE and broke my bindings so i brought brand new ones up with me this past weekend. I hated riding with them so I went in there in the hopes that they could either adjust them for me or better yet i could rent/​demo some ones.
Dory B and Tyler J were where and hooked me up. Not only did they give me some amazing recommendations on bindings that could fit my style of riding but their customer service was impeccable. They were friendly, kind and overall fun to hang around with. They knew i was in a bind coming all the way from the Bay Area and allowed me to rent bindings and return them back in the Bay Area for no extra cost.
I cannot wait to use my season pass and go back up there and see them again!

awesome lodging at the Northstar Club. overall I had a super relaxing weekend. the rooms & grounds were very thought out; plush robes & cozy blankets throughout. hot tubs & massages? yes please.
we stayed during the Autumn Food & Wine Festival. which was an excellent value.
four hours of booze for 28 $?!? sold! the nine hole miniature golf was also the perfect amount of competition for myself & my tipsy friends. yup. tipsy happens. :/​
we also tried the sushi place & the chocolate martini bar… both pretty good.

We have stayed here twice now and love it! The rooms are really nice and clean. We stayed in a one bedroom unit that was pet friendly which is a plus for us because we love bringing our chocolate Labs to Tahoe! The kitchen has all granite countertops and all the appliances you need for your stay. TV in the bedroom and living room. We used to stay at the Village at Squaw Valley for years until they started going downhill… every time we stayed there was something not working, customer service was horrible and nothing was open in the village. You have to pay for the pool at the Village at Squaw Valley where here it is free with numerous hot tubs and workout areas. The village at NorthStar has a great pizza/​italian restaurant that we ate at a couple of times and also a sushi restaurant. Also we went to the Gelato place while we were there which was a great extra treat! They also have propane bbq’s they let you use it you would like to bbq! NorthStar is close to Safeway for groceries and also close to Kings Beach! A few blocks away there is a lot of different shops and restaurants. The only thing that was not comfortable was the sofa pull out sleeper. If you have more than a couple people it would be better to rent out a 2 bedroom. Definately will be going back! Love it here!

We had a wonderful time staying in the Northstar area and spending time in the Northstar village. Our kids did the Summer Adventure Pass. The workers at the spider climb, trampoline bungee, and mining were wonderful! They were great with the kids and were very supportive. The village is beautiful and we loved going there in the evenings and just relaxing. We will definitely be coming back!

We didn’t actually stay at the rooms here, but we spent a fair amount of time in the village itself and it is very nice. Shops, restaurants and entertainment were all right there.
There is a nice a roller skating rink in the summer that turns into a ice rink in the winter.
My only complaint would be the strict rules in regard to thunder and the pool… If there is thunder, which happens almost daily in the summer, the pool closes for thirty minutes and the thirty minutes restarts if there is subsequent thunder.
Now don’t me wrong, I am all for safety, but please recall for me a time in history when ANYONE was ever killed by lightening while swimming in the pool?
I’d be happy to sign a waiver to stay in :-)

Maybe I just visited on a bad weekend, but the shopping was not really good. Stores closed early and so did the restaurants… and everything also opened late! I visited with my boyfriend (who was in a wedding) so I had some time to spend by myself and was glad the shops were nearby. I was disappointed when at noon on a Monday everything was closed. As far as our cabin goes… AMAZING. Beautiful. Prettiest place I’ve ever stayed.

Northstar snowpark is great and they know how to keep their snow even though they don’t get much (think snowmaking during snowstorm).
The lift tickets are so expensive, you’d get a full week in the Alps for 2 days there :(
And the price varies a lot too, 90 to 130 depending on the weather? crowed?

All you need to know is…
–Northstar is aesthetically pleasing so just looking at the village itself is not a bad experience if you’re not planning on hitting the slopes.
–Food options are limited and mostly pricy; the cheapest place my group managed to find was Tacos Jaliscos, which was surprisingly good
–Ice skating is FREE but skate rentals (no time limit) are $ 10. Not bad!
But the most important detail of all…
–THE FREE S’MORES are so good in the cold weather! Northstar workers donning sweaters with «S» on them (stands for S’mores maybe???) hand them out at 3:30pm on the left side of the rink facing the stage.

The Full Moon Snowshoeing excursion was absolutely a delight! We had four wonderful diverse guides and they were friendly and chatty which was great since I was solo.
The views of the full moon and the natural light that emanates from it while being in the high Sierra mountains surrounded by beautiful (pine?) trees was absolutely magical to me.
I would do this again without hesitation.
As an added bonus, I’d never been to Northstar and it is absolutely a beautiful and fun ski resort!

As newcomers to Tahoe, the recommendations of friends helped us choose Northstar as our accommodations for a week this summer. While our room was clean and comfortable and the front desk staff was very friendly, the location is remote. I fully accept that I knew that upon booking, but everyone kept talking about how nice the Village was and how everything is right there.
Our first night was fine, we had pizza at Rubicon Pizza Company and it was delicious. Great service, too. The next morning we went to Starbucks and had a very expensive breakfast. Again, the service was great. Tonight we went out at 8 pm looking for the Mexican restaurant on site. Their website listed 9pm closing so we hurried over. It was closed. Almost every restaurant except a sushi place, pizza place and a wine bar were closed. It’s a ghost town. There was a frozen yogurt/​candy shop and a gelato shop open. Both had an average price of $ 7 per order.
I’m sure this is a great place to stay in the winter but they should clearly state that you need to drive somewhere else far off the property to have dinner if you want to eat after 6pm in the summer. Nice property, but it’s boring.

My streak of going to ski resorts and not actually skiing has been going on for a good 10 years now. Woot woot! So here at Northstar, since I’m not a skier, the reason I come here is either to meet friends for sushi, to people watch people fall down at the ice rink as I sip hot chocolate, or window shop (I won’t actually buy anything here in the shops, since prices are inflated by about 30% — ridiculous mark ups). For fun, I have done things like gone to the bead shop or made candles, so even if you are a non-​skier, there’s plenty to do to entertain yourself with everyone else is clumping around in their ski boots.

The Village at Northstar was very nice and cozy. It’s a place for people to relax after a long day on the slopes. There’s a large ice rink at the center of the village with fire pits and comfortable cushions for people to sit, chat, and warm up. Loud and live music.
They even have people walking around the Village starting around 3:30 to give out free s’mores.
There’s a lot of stores surrounding the ice rink. There’s Starbucks, gelato, candy, sushi, crêpe, and so many other things at the village. The prices are high, but it’s to be expected from stores at a resort.
I did buy a crêpe from Euro Crêpe. It was a little disappointing since the ham and veggie crêpe I got didn’t seem to be worth the price. The ingredients were not fresh, but it was still good and what I semi expected.
Overall, I thought the village was very impressive. It’s the perfect place for families and for people to relax after a day on the slopes.

This has become our favorite resort to ski at. Their easy runs are perfect to practice on and the village is full of friendly people willing to talk about their products or just tell you about their lives in tahoe.
If you ski or snowboard the best time to go is during the week. During the weekend it becomes crowded because everyone is out of school and work.

It is indeed a village for Lake Tahoe, Northstar resort.
The shops to browse around and look at, is very limited. I got bored within half an hour and since the village is small, I explored everything within that time frame.
It is a convenient spot, however, to pass some time while taking a trip to Lake Tahoe.
Whether it is for coffee, some Belgian waffles on the go, getting a massage for relaxation purposes or sport’s gear for recreational activities, this village has got you covered.

So we planned a weekend getaway so we would not have to deal with driving or catching cabs after hours and thought that by staying in the «Village» we would have a great time. We were wrong.
I had book a room, a week in advanced, with view into the «Village» versus a «Mountain» view. Call it a view to the building in front of us. Go with the Mountain view instead!!!
Do not waste your time booking a stay here in the summer time as you will be forced to leave the «village» and drive out for 5 miles to seek dinner accommodations. There are 7 restaurants in the village but guess what, 4 of them were closed till the WINTER even though their Unilocal website stated they were open… Major disappointment.
RESTAURANTS ON SIGHT:
The Chocolate Bar was CLOSED when ever we strolled by it.
Petra was CLOSED till the winter.
Tavern 6330′ was CLOSED till the winter.
TC’s Pub was CLOSED till the winter. (who closes a pub?)
Rubicon Pizza Company was OPEN but did not try.
Tacos Jalisco was great for breakfast, yummy habanero hot sauce.
Mikuni Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar was FANTASTIC SUSHI!
Starbucks was way over priced as we figured it would be…$ 10 for 2 Hazelnut Macchiato coffees.
Only one small outdoor bar was found, call it a table with bottles behind it, to enjoy late evening entertainment and you cannot leave it vicinity as «NO alcohol beyond this point» signs are keeping you from enjoying a leisure walk. We had to go to Truckee to enjoy some bar activities.
The «Village» was pretty much a ghost town after 7pm and the gift shops closed early and not much lighting to illuminate the leisure strolls.
The NO late check out was also rather disappointing and had to be out by 11am.
Only reason for not giving them a one star is because we managed to make it work.

Convenient if you’re staying in one of the condos, but not a lot of selection. Restaurants are limited, the convenience store is way over priced, and a lot of the shops are specialty stores that carry a high price tag.

I have mixed feelings about The Village at Northstar. While it’s huge and absolutely beautiful, it left much to be desired as far as food options, specifically breakfast foods. Yes, they have a Starbucks and yes, there is Earthly Delights, which offers quick bites, but there weren’t really any sit-​down breakfast spots.
I will say that Starbucks and Earthly Delights were great for a much needed coffee fix and quick bite to eat before the wedding we were attending, but with as much money as Northstar brings in, you’d think there would be an solid place serving breakfast/​brunch.
I did like the cabanas and seating area by the skating rink, it was a nice spot to sit down, relax, and enjoy the weather. The fire pits were so convenient at night! Also, all the Northstar employees we talked to were really nice and helpful.
Overall, if you are looking for a huge meal in The Village, I’d go outside the resort or I’d make something in your room if you are staying in one of the condos, lofts, or suites.

I have to say that Northstar still remains one of my favorite villages in all of Tahoe area resorts because it really embodies the whole luxury nice part to a T. They have nice sitting and relaxing areas all over the village including the nicest place near the rink where there are great pits of fire to warm your soul in.
There are a variety of high end shops, all relating to outdoor fun including Burton /​North Face and Oakley. They often have pretty good sales despite their exterior’s looking very ominously expensive and this is a great spot to pick up last minute items at the end of the season for next season.
Northstar also has a variety of great restaurants from Mexican, American, sushi etc. to fulfill any kind of food cravings you may have. The WORST part though of this whole place is their Belgian waffle stands that are all over the village. By worst I mean, it smells amazing and tastes delicious but costs a whooping $ 7. After walking around for a while you inevitably give in to the overpriced waffle and have it at anyway but … in the end what a cruel and unusual punishment to be smelling it everywhere!
Nice village to visit, stay and relax even if you’re not on the slopes.
