Lost Trail Lodge

Stayed there a few times — love it. Nice snowshoe in in winter.

We rented out LTL over the holidays and had a great time. There is great backcountry skiing all around the lodge. The lodge itself has allot of character, make SURE you know which room you are getting. Some are very nice. The loft is a no go. It gets super hot as all the hot air from the main lodge rises. It also doesn’t have much privacy as the main part of the lodge is right below the loft and there are no walls.
Luckily we had the lodge completely rented out which is the way to go. As there is one kitchen and communal area, I could see it being kind of a pain if there is a rowdy group staying there also.
All and all, a great experience

Excellent hike up to the Lost Trail Lodge. The kitchen is magnificent, so bring plenty of wine and cooking ingredients. The day hikes are amazing. I don’t recommend cross country skiing there, but it is a great place to snowshoe into. Easy to find, but don’t arrive at night. It was wonderful to bring a dog. They keep the place VERY VERY warm, so bring light stuff to sleep in. Will go there again and again!

Lost trail Lodge is a fabulous find. And when I say «find“I really mean it. You have to follow a hand drawn map on a washboard dirt road and through 3 creeks and a tunnel with a creek running through it to get there!
We stayed July 4^th weekend in Cabin #1 (queen bed up in a loft, deep soaking tub) and Cabin #2 (queen bed downstairs, 4 twins in the loft and a shower).
We loved every bit of the place from Opie the Great Pyrennees dog, to the solar power that warmed our bath, to the gorgeous wood buidlings, to the delish mountain water, to the gorgeous remote location in Coldstream Canyon.
We will definitely go back. Now I’m itching to learn to snowshoe to go there in the winter!
4 wheel drive & clearance A MUST in the summer to get there.
The only improvements I would recommend are for the place to use biodegradable soaps (dish, body & laundry) and other household items. It was disheartening to be off the grid in nature’s bounty and discover antibacterial dish soap, and Zest bar soap in use.

I just got back from Lost Trail yesterday and I cannot wait until I go back! This place is the ultimate getaway! The drive is pretty tough going in but once you know where you’re going you can enjoy the beautiful scenery that surrounds you. You are in the middle of nowhere and there is no place I’d rather be. I recommend this to anyone who is a nature lover or has dogs! They roam around free of charge! Take my advice and find yourself at the lost trail lodge.

I can’t say enough good things about Lost Trail. After my first trip there in March 2006, I went back 4 times that year and I live in SoCal. Its a great place to stay year round but the best time to go is when there’s snow on the ground. The four mile snowshoe/​x-​country ski/​telemark in gets you in the mood to be in backcountry. Its a beautiful trail thru the woods. Upon arrival you’re typically greeted by Opie, a Great Pyrenees. More of a horse than a dog really and so sweet! The Lodge is a Swiss chalet type of structure with a comfy great room and behind that a large communal kitchen with an kick-​ass double oven Wolf Range. Did I mention that you have to pack in your own food? But don’t worry, David, the owner of Lost Trail, will meet you at the trailhead with his snowmobile and take some bags in for you. David is a great host, often playing the piano after dinner and encourage everyone to join in on the myriad of instruments he has lying around. Never played the stand up bass? No problem, he’ll still talk you into trying to pluck out some tunes. The main lodge connects to 4 of the 7 cabins available and 3 of those 4 have jacuzzi tubs. My favorite is cabin # 1. I love this place and can’t wait to spend my 3^rd Thanksgiving there this November.
