History
Established in 2010.
For over 20 years I was devoted to climbing in all it’s forms, rock, ice, and alpine. In my work as a mountain guide and Outward Bound instructor, I worked with students having deeply moving experiences as they faced challenges, personal doubts, and fears. I realized some of the experiences could be facilitated by someone with experience and training that I did not have; this turned me to seek out my training in mental health and I now have a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. My aim has been to do work that is a valuable service to others and is challenging and interesting. Life coaching is all of that.
In 1991 was when I turned away from being a full time mountain guide and ski instructor and committed my efforts toward obtaining training as a mental health therapist and researcher. I began counseling in my graduate program in 1994 and completed my Ph.D. in 2006. The idea of Higher Ground Life Coaching was launched in 2010.

Business Owner
For over 20 years I was a guide and instructor in rock climbing and mountaineering, but it was in Outward Bound’s framework of personal growth that I found I was able to connect with people on a deeper level, helping them find greater effectiveness and fulfillment in life. Much of my Outward Bound experience was with their schools in California, Oregon, and Washington working with their Professional Development Programs with clients such as Nike, Home Depot, and Lockheed.
Outward Bound programs inspire introspection, compassion for others, conscientious participation, physical fitness, and environmental stewardship. It was this work with people having deeply moving emotional experiences: from elated and inspired to gravely facing fears and self-doubt, that led me to seek training for coaching people during these intense interactions.
In 1991 I turned from my life as a mountain guide to pursue a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. My full vita is available on request.
