SHOPHASCLOSED. I loved this adorable store-in-a-shed, which I often described as the most ‘San Francisco’ of any place in town. They carried great paper goods by Chronicle Books, Little Otsu, Nikki McClure — and a good selection of indie art/fashion/jewelry. Perfect for gifts: I once found a vintage brass belt buckle of the word MARK, a good friend’s name. Sadly, I stopped by this week and discovered it’s now Lorien Powers Studio Jewelry under new owners. They said Heather(one of the Drake & Lulu partners) was now at Riverside Studios down the street, but I’ve been there and didn’t find much of the same aesthetic. I think it’s still kind of new, so hopefully Heather brings out more of her great style in time. Sad to see this place go!

I LOVE this store. I used to live in Truckee, and had some friends’ jewelry featured here which was how I came to know it. I live in the bay area now, but never miss an opportunity to go to the store when I am in town. The owners are extremely friendly and personable, and the jewelry and clothing is unmatched in quality and originality. Any time I need gifts for birthdays I hold out as long as I can so that I can buy them here to support this great local business. I always get compliments on anything I buy there, and I love knowing that each piece is one of a kind. If you are in Truckee, insist on checking out this store! You won’t regret it! Also, it is in the down town area, so near to some yummy restaurants if you’re looking for a bite to eat.

Drake & Lulu’s is a great spot in the Brickelltown area of Downtown Truckee(west of the commerical area and train station). The jewelry made by Lorien is gorgeous and unlike much of what you see in the jewlery world. And the work Heather does with a sewing machine is amazing! They bring in other local artists’ work and have great gifts. Stepping into the Art Shed, you feel immediately welcome… and are likely to meet the cutest little dachsunds in all of California. They have great fair trade espresso and can make up a warm drink for you for a small donation. Stop in and say hello to the newest shopkeepers on the Brickelltown Courtyard.
