The public piers/​docks at Donner Lake are awesome. Roomy, well-​maintained, and best of all, free. They are great for families (of course), but also for pet owners looking to take their 4-​legged «family» to the lake. One of my favorite weekend escapes during the summer.

One of the many secrets about this area is that there are individual docks for public use here at Donner Lake. Come early, spread all your crap out and claim your spot. Now you have all day and lots of «private» space to jump into the lake to cool off, climb back onto the dock to fry and then do it again 47 times. Bring food and you’re all set. Yes, there are bathrooms just down the way. Whew.

I went to rundown Reno on my birthday and hit jackpot on Wheel of Fortune. So on the way home, I noticed Donner Lake and drove down the hill to see the awesome scenery. I rented a jetski for the first time for an expensive price of $ 70 for a ½ hour and it was an adrenaline rush. I liked the mountains, trees, and snow I saw even though it was July. The water seemed nice and blue as I spashed through it. The locals are territorial though and spoke to me like a second class citizen when I accidentally cut off their boat formations which looked more like captain crunch jigsaw puzzle.

No better place to relax on Donner lake than here. Away from the kiddos and super convenient for those driving and looking for a quick lake fix. Bring your suntan lotion, a book and watch the world go by on gorgeous Donner lake. if one dock is busy, just keep driving, you’ll find an open spot…

I love that there are individual docks people can claim and fish off of. We came early, parked right by a dock and began fishing. The views were beautiful and it was serenely peaceful, except when boats /​water skiiers came by.
I also appreciated that there were bathroom facilities.
