Great food and great price(coming from the Bay Area, where everything is overpriced). We stopped by and grabbed breakfast burritos on our way to Truckee Donner. Quick service, a staff who cares about its customers, and some killer green and red salsa. Add cactus to your burrito and you won’t regret it.

We’ve eaten here quite a few times now & every time has been great. The food is quickly served, they pay attention to my food allergies & the food has always been great.

Diego’s is a haven for Mexican food in Truckee. I moved here from Napa a year ago, and was desperate to find a great, cheap Mexican place. I found the now defunct Sancho’s in Tahoe Vista, and nothing in Truckee would satisfy me. Everywhere is just«okay» at best. One day a coworker mentioned Diego’s. «Where’s THAT,» I inquired. «Across the parking lot by Jax, across the street from Morgan’s.» I retorted confidently, «There’s nothing there.» A Unilocal search quickly put me in my place. I was there for lunch that same day. I have gone since about once a week, if not more. I always get the grilled chicken burrito. A fair fair price and more importantly, filling! I once had the chipotle chicken burrito, and the explosion of flavor and spices was simple invigorating. I would eat here ever day if I could.

Yummy and affordable. Super friendly people, straight forward Mexican food. Lately I’ve been adding cactus to liven up my veggie tacos. Easy to go veggie in here.

Great food and reasonably priced… even for Truckee. We will not be eating there again for Taco Tuesday after my family got sick presumably from weird and off colored carne asada and carnitas. There shouldn’t be 3 different colors and textures of meat in a taco.

Love this place. The ladies that work there are so sweet and helpful. I definitely recommend Diego’s to everyone. It is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in truckee.

Had two excellent tasting meals here. It’s a bit spartan, but the prices are great.

Great value, you can tell that it’s a family run restaurant that cares about its customers. They’re flexible with orders and it’s so cheap compared to all of the other Truckee restaurants in the area. DONOTGOELSEWHERE for your Mexican fix($ 1.50 tacos on a regular basis and $ 1 on Tuesday). PHENOMENAL. I’m coming here a few times a week from now on. Oh, and the salsa is delicious :)

Thank you Unilocalers! Had the super burrito. It was amazing! My hubby and I could have split it with the chips they give you. He got Carnitas. Also very good. It came in burrito form as well, genius! Good prices too.

Great tacos at a fantastic price! Not fancy, not big but great food and they have a high-hair! The owners are so nice.

I ordered fish tacos not too long ago. I was starving and so excited that they had what I was craving: fish! I can NOT have dairy so I was excited when the foods description had no dairy listed. When I ordered my tacos. I didn’t wait long at all.(no one else was there, slow season) so I grabbed my tacos and ran out to my car. When I opened the box and saw some kind of sauce with dairy ALL over the tacos I was sooo upset. I was starving and just spent money on something I couldn’t eat. I went home and had to rinse everything in the tacos off in my sink. Even then, the sauce soaked in and I got sick. I wish I knew about to sauce before placing my order(wasn’t even listed in food description) Or else I would have told them no sauce. Other then that, its a clean neat little place!

Got the carnitas gordita. It was ok, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to have it again. I was highly disappointed in the lack of drink choices here. No Horchata, and no beer. And the service was so, so. In all I really would not bother coming here again!

We were expecting something good based on all the Unilocal reviews. Sadly, that is not what we got. The food was bland, the taco meat(asada, pastor) was dry, hard, and surely reheated. My son got the cheese quesadilla, which was the best thing on the table. It was pretty much as 2 stars describes, «meh, I’ve had better» — much better

Who knew Truckee had such incredible Mexican food? Not me. Glad to find this place… it’s kind of hidden across the train tracks from the main part of town, but worth seeking out if in need of some deliciously good cheap eats. Loved the al pastor burrito, and friends gave positive reviews of the chicken and steak tacos too. This really is a no frills taqueria and so your best bet is to grab your burrito, take a seat at the picnic table in the parking lot, and enjoy the fresh Tahoe air while chowing down.

Very simple menu taco/burrito place. It looks fairly clean inside but I go there for the tacos and burritos. It’s like ordering from a taco truck — very authentic. The chicken or carnitas are my favorites. Mom and pop with friendly service.
