Business Owner

Owner Kevin S. spent 18 years owning and operating Burger King Restaurants. In that time he learned the value of great service and lowest costs to beat the competition. His true love was computers so in 2009 he purchased the Copy Center to transform it into a Tech Center.

Kevins son Justin helps run the daily operations and is an expert cell phone repair and macbook tech. Justin has a huge following because of his expert skills in all facets of the Copy and Tech Center.

I found out that they could replace my cracked iPhone 5c screen at the Truckee Thursday event. First, they were part of a very fun community event that benefitted the community, local businesses and schools. Second, were very friendly. I arrived to their shop on Monday with my phone. The person I talked to was finishing up a phone conversation so I waited about 30 seconds for attention. The transaction was straight forward. Filled out the form, left my phone and returned about an hour later to pick up my repaired phone. They charged $ 110 and the charge is $ 125 in SFO Bay Area Apple stores. The state sales tax is a little less up here. I was greeted pleasantly, the work was done efficiently, and was a bit cheaper than the Bay Area. What’s not to like about this place? I would certainly return.

This place shouldn’t be called the copy center. Went in thinking I might get a referral to somewhere else but found everything I was looking for! Cable for my old MacBook Pro, a solid but inexpensive wifi printer, and some solid advice from the knowledgeable owner. I’ll be back for a Mac tuneup. Couldn’t be nicer or more helpful.

When I walked in, the dude at the counter was talking to a woman he seemed to know about things in their lives, it didn’t appear to have anything to do with business. I stood there for at least two minutes before my presence was acknowledged. When it finally was, I had the impression that I was interrupting him somehow. I had a flash drive with a jpeg file on it that I wanted five copies of. Just then, two other people came in and he immediately ignored me again to help them. He told me he would get the copies made in ‘a bit’…So I waited a few more moments, then asked if I should come back in ten to fifteen minutes. He said ‘sure’…so when I came back later, my flash drive was still sitting on the desk where he had put it and he was stocking paper in another section and the store was void of all customers.
Again, he acted as if I was interrupting him and he huffed a bit about printing out FIVE copies. Then he couldn’t get it to work at all, told me there was something wrong with the file as it was saying he was out of paper when he was not.
I had printed from this file several times and was pretty sure there was nothing wrong with it.
So I took my business to The Office Boss and they were able to help me with no problems at all, and they were VERY nice and friendly.
I hope this place goes out of business soon. What a jerk!

While I was visiting Tahoe, the power charger of my Mac Book Air burned out, and I needed to find another one before I flew out the next day. After calling around, I located a charger at the Copy Center, drove 20 minutes to the store, and brought in my computer and the old charger to show them what I needed. I was told by Kevin, the owner, that I would need a 65 watt cord, so I purchased one for $ 60. Upon getting back to my cabin, however, I discovered that it didn’t work because I have a larger MacBook (15 in screen), which requires an 80 watt charger. I didn’t have time to go back to the store before my flight home. By the time I was able to get mail the charger back, I was told by an employee that I would be refunded minus a stocking fee. I wasn’t happy about this because I was sold the wrong product in the first place; nevertheless I went through the hassle of shipping the charger back, along with a letter explaining the situation. I heard nothing for five weeks. Finally, I called and was told by Kevin that they didn’t offer refunds on electronics. He gave me such grief, and after he sold me a product I couldn’t use in the first place! If you don’t know which chargers go with which MacBooks, don’t stock and sell them! He finally gave me a partial refund based on a number he made up on the spot. A professional business would have provided a clear refund policy, and it would not have sold a customer the wrong electronic in the first place.
