Canine Country Truckee

Great service, very accommodating to dogs and their owners. Conveniently located off of I-​80 and close to the resorts of North Tahoe. We took our 10 month old pitbull puppy there and they took great care of her at a very reasonable price. After a full day of riding, not sure who was more worn out, her or us! Look no further if you need a dog-​sitter or boarding in Tahoe.

Compassionate care and lots of outdoor time make this a great place to take your dog.

My dog Loves Canine Country. We usually use them when we go out of town. My dog is always excited when we arrive. And for a day or so afterwards he acts like he misses his «play group». The owner even let’s him sleep beside her bed on the floor (which is where he sleeps at our house) so he can feel at home. Would recommend this place to anyone.

We love Canine Country! We recently moved to Truckee from Denver and spent a month or so looking for overnight care for our sweet and energetic border collie /​blue heeler mix, Zoe, who is shy in new situations. She had been going to the same place in Denver for two years, so we were a little nervous to bring her somewhere new for 4 nights. Right off the bat, Debra was absolutely wonderful in helping Zoe get acquainted with the indoor and outdoor spaces, and the other dogs. Debra picked up quickly on Zoe’s personality and helped her feel comfortable right away. I could immediately tell that Zoe was in great hands for the week!
I also love that the dogs play all day and that the sleeping situation is open (no kennels, no short/​regulated play times), as that is definitely Zoe’s style and made her feel so much more comfortable. She was very healthy, as happy as a clam, and exhausted when I picked her up after 4 days. We even got a fun and very thorough report card, which I sincerely appreciated! It truly showed just how much attention, care, and love she received by Debra (and her whole family) while we were away! It also warmed my heart when Debra’s son said goodbye to Zoe as we walked out to our car!
I highly recommend Canine Country for both daycare and overnight care. You won’t find the loving nature of Canine Country at a standard boarding facility, and we will definitely be taking Zoe back on our next trip out of town!

This is definitely not the place if you have a Paris Hilton «designer dog»! However, if you have a normal, playful, fun animal, this is definitely the place. Every other kennel etc. that we’ve taken our dog to felt more like a prison. Our dog, Harvey, is a little shy and tentative. Debora, the owner, is probably a certified «dog whisperer.» Harvey apparently made a few friends while he was there, and he seems to be much more sociable after his stay. The environment at the Canine Country is as close to home as one can have. I highly recommend it.

We had a fantastic experience with Canine Country Pet Pals! Visiting family in Tahoe City a few weeks ago, we couldn’t bring our mini Australian Shepherd, Daisy, with us and looked online for a boarder (for the first time).
We were quite worried about leaving her in a completely new environment, as she has little experience being around other dogs, has all kinds of quirks and «rules» (won’t eat off a plate, will only sleep with the kids, «herds» our window shades every night, the list goes on), and on top of this is afraid of men and barks and growls at them.
When we dropped Daisy off, she immediately met a dog friend and they began playing. Without asking, Debra said that Daisy could sleep upstairs with them, which was so reassuring. Like a trepid new mother leaving her baby with a babysitter for the first time, I asked her to please call if any problems. I was sure we’d be getting a call within a day, if not a few hours, saying it wasn’t working out and come pick her up, but
when I checked in towards the end of our stay, she said she was doing great, eating off a paper plate, playing with her new friends, and sleeping all night with them. Music to my ears! We asked if she could stay one extra night, and she agreed to go buy more of Daisy’s food to accommodate us.
When we picked her up, Debra offered many tips and suggestions to help her get over her fear of men and other things. The staff seems to be very dedicated and really loves all the dogs. We’ll definitely be bringing Daisy back. Just wish there was a Canine County Pet Pals in Marin close to us!

We recently took our dog here for a meet and greet. Knowing we were going to a cage-​free dog setting, my expectations for cleanliness and overall appeal was not unreasonable. I was just looking for a place where my dog could spend the day in doggie daycare and come home exhausted!
However, after my visit, I could not allow my dog to go there. While their website says a maximum of 10 dogs/​day, there were at least 15 dogs when we visited, possibly closer to 20. They also say that no aggressive dogs are allowed, however, there were at least 3 dogs that were aggressive towards our dog. My dog was totally intimidated by the set-​up but was being a trooper despite the circumstances. He was very happy to leave when we were done!
We were shown first in the house where many of the dogs are kept, and where they do their overnight boarding. Once again, it’s a place for dogs, I don’t expect much. But it was pretty gross. It just didn’t even feel sanitary enough for dogs! They also told us that the dogs often sleep upstairs in the owner’s bed with them… eew!
The backyard ‘kennel’ was madness. This is where we met two of the aggressive dogs, and the woman was directing my husband to grab our dog to calm everything down. We only spent a couple minutes out there because all of the dogs were going crazy. It felt very much over-​capacity with the number of dogs in the same fenced in area.
I was really disappointed because I was hoping for a close option to send my dog when we have long days of work. They also were the cheapest rates in town (figures). However, we will not be going back.
