This review is specifically for Sam in plumbing!
We came in with a dishwasher problem. Looking for a very challenging repair for installing our new dishwasher. After walking the aisles trying to figure out what we needed and asking employees for help… we were told there was nothing that could be done. And then we came across Sam, who genuinely wanted to help us.
Sam was more determined than we were to solve the problem. He spent over 30 minutes with us. He was knowledgeable, friendly and because of him, this was the best customer service that we have experienced. He found us multiple materials we would need to fix our problem and with trial and error, he got it right! We could not have figured it out without him. We came home and installed our dishwasher and it’s working perfectly. (it’s not directly next to our kitchen sink, so we needed some homemade parts to extend the hoses).
I hope Sam is recognized for his superior customer service.

Our kitchen sink faucet was leaking, so went to Home Depot to purchase a new faucet. But after a couple of days installing it, it was leaking again. So we took it all apart and even recorded the reason of the defect. Went back to Home Depot for a refund.
After refunding it, this lady asked us if we needed help find anything. We only had an idea how to fix the issue, so we described the situation to her and she helped us with a solution using a gasket.
I’m always impressed by the amazing service of Home Depot employers. And all the employers we asked for help even long before had all the knowledge to fix the solution. Not every place has that and so I always feel confident going to Home Depot to ask for help. And even one time when this one person didn’t know the answer, he found someone else that could help us. Such caring employees.

Slow and annoying service I have never seen more lackadaisical service at a Home Depot in my life. The employees are more interested in talking with each other than the customers. They continue their conversations as you are standing their waiting for them to help you. Thank God there are other Home Depot stores around! This one needs a management overhaul! I am avoiding this store like the plague!

Went to buy a can of spray paint for a project. They had the isle closed for no apparent reason, maybe waiting for a bomb squad to arrive. I asked an employee why it was closed. She said she didn’t know and would find out. My time is worth more than to stick around and find out why they don’t want me to buy a product in their store. I told others standing there «I can get the same thing at Lowe’s».
So I left the store and bought exactly what I needed at Lowe’s. I’m done with Troy Home Depot.
They can close all the isles they want, who cares? Their not the only game in town.

This is the slowest most annoying Home Depot in the area. I only shop here because it’s super close. They always seem to have limited quantities of things of out of stock completely. They also don’t seem to have the same amount of employees out on the floor to help out that the other stores do. I’ve had much better luck at the Madison Heights location finding what I need.

I’m reviewing this here because I cannot figure out how to review this on the Home Depot Installation Services website.
I had a «tub and shower lining» installation done. Because my tub was a whirlpool tub, they told me I couldn’t have a liner installed — but they could remove the whirlpool, install a similar acrylic tub and add walls to the enclosure to give me something that was very similar in look and style. I was very concerned about the seams between the tub and the walls and between each wall — would they be caulked with silicone just like regular tubs with tile enclosures, thereby mildewing and pulling away in a short time? No, no, no, the Home Depot salespeople assured me. They used a super-​duper extra-​special caulk that would bond invisibly with the acrylic of the tub and the walls and provide a seamless surface that would last for YEARS.
I believed them.
The first problem was the installer they sent. A very pleasant man, but he brought his grown son with him, whom he appeared to be teaching the trade. The process took days and days. When it was done, I had something that was OK, but not great. The acrylic walls were a slightly different shade than the tub. Not enough to holler, but not perfect. They chipped a couple of wall tiles. Not enough to holler, but not perfect.
The bigger problems appeared within months. Did the caulk repel mildew? Hell to the no. What’s worse is that the caulk has pulled away from the wall, leaving gaps between the wall and the tub. The walls don’t appear to have been cut correctly to size, leaving a lot of space to fill with this magic caulk, more than it can do. I’ve gone back with boring old regular silicone caulk in a tube to fill in the gaps. That’s a first-​world problem, but … I paid a lot of dollars for something better.
Finally, when nice man and his trainee son removed the whirlpool, they managed to do something to the wiring that cut the power to a wall of plugs in the adjoining bedroom. Luckily, my electrician was able to fix that, for several hundred dollars.
So, no … don’t use them for installation. They might send someone who knows what they’re doing, or they might send someone who’s brand-​new to this kind of installation. And they might or might not answer your phone calls when you complain.

My go to Home Depot (or HD as I call it), right around the corner from our home, I feel as though for some projects I practically live here. Very convenient to get to and easy to park.
Typically they have what I need in stock and at decent prices. I’ve never been impressed with their lumber quality, but in a pinch it works. Better to go to Bolyard off Eton for wood.
For the most part, the sales associates here are always nice and pleasant. Eager to help, know where items are at, and can give a few good tips for projects you are working on. I’ve found the associates specifically in the plumbing/​HVAC area, as well as paint dept, to be top notch.

I’m quite aware this is a chain big box store, but when it comes to competitive home products this is a great stop. This particular location has worked out for us over and over again. On a most recent visit purchasing beadboard, the gentleman in lumber was extremely helpful in cutting the boards for us with never a complaint. The checkout was seamless, and outside another store worker came out to ask if we needed help (we didn’t, but the gesture was appreciated). I really like that it’s in a complex with Michael’s, Kroger and Target — it is conveniently placed and helps bring in a lot of small home reno projects together easily.

Similar in merch to any other HD but this one has a terrible parking lot to navigate through. Being closest to the Coolidge entrance/​exit can often make the trip just a little frustrating. I really only choose this location if I’m out shopping Target or Meijer and need something from HD but the Madison Heights store is my store of preference. Staff is helpful per usual.

I’ve been a big fan of THD for a long time… that is until I came to my «neighborhood» Home Depot. This particular location is the worst in a couple of areas. Namely customer service, or lack thereof. Save for the lovely door greeter (s), finding a customer service rep in any department (including checkout) is near impossible. When you do find one, they more often than not, make you feel as though you are inconveniencing them with your question or assistance in getting items that require assistance. The last experience to put me over in that I will not be shopping in this location was the service and repair department. I took another commenter’s post about how great they were at fixing snowblowers. Well, Debbie, in the Tool Rental (and repair) department is nothing short of an awful person and makes you regret ever having tried to clear your own snow in a historically awful winter that even your snowblower said «uncle» to. It took 12 days (with two major storms blowing through in between) to get our snowblower back. The part they «needed to order» was never ordered and they decided to simply «flip» the existing blade. Ummm, what? You said you needed to order the part which would take three days. We called three times during that 12 day period and we got different excuses on why our order hadn’t been fulfilled. Pick an excuse and I’m certain they used it on us, along with a really crappy attitude to boot. We finally got our snowblower back but with far more grief than necessary and an awful Debbie to collect our payment. The other issue with this store, their lack of inventory which someone else on this thread mentioned. I usually find what I need now at the Southfield location and they are actually more helpful and it’s not as hectic a location. While I still like THD, this store needs a lot of work.

The Good Olé Days — Great Service
The service I received while at this store was fantastic! Remember the good olé days when a sales assistant would walk you over to the item you needed and not just point in a general direction? Rob kindly greeted me when I only two feet in the store. «My I help you find something?» He said. I was taken aback since this usually happens in the department not when I first enter the store. I told him the problem I was trying to resolve. Instead of sending me to the department I THOUGHT I needed, he called that department head and told him what I was trying to do. The department head said what I was looking for was not in his department. Rob called twice another department — no answer. Rob escorted me to the department I needed and started helping me look for the part. If I can receive this kind of small-​town corner-​hardware-​store treatment each time at a mammoth Home Depot, Home Depot has a customer for life.

I have taken my mower and snowblower here 3 times now for service. After going to other places for service for years I was pleasantly surprised that Home Depot was the absolute best in service and price!
Those guys in repair are very helpful and more than fair!!! If I take my snow blower to another place it would be $ 190… (Bent auger and new scraper blade) Home Depot was honest and only $ 45!!! I will not take my mower or snowblower anywhere else!
I’m a DIY person so I don’t usually ask but when I have… I have had customer service very willing to help on the floor.
Yes, lowes and menards have more decorative stuff. If you are looking for bare building materials or need to rent machines for DIY stuff like power washers, insulation, carpet cleaners, dehumidifiers, etc…
This place is awesome :-)

It’s a franchise, so you kind of know what you’re going to get. It’s funny, I used to not think the service was that great, but since I have a baby, people are all about helping us out. Maybe I’m more approachable with a kid? I dunno. Anyway, I’m really just writing a review because it’s better than a two-​star rating, so I wanted to bump them up a bit. It’s clean, well staffed, things are in stock. It’s also in a great location, so usually we stop in while running other errands as well.

After experiencing Lowe’s, I was very hesitant to come to Home Depot to price out our new kitchen. I made an appointment and was warmly greeted when I entered the kitchen area. Lynn was my consultant and she did a wonderful job. She took me around and showed me different cabinet types that I might be interested. Then she took the Lowe’s quote and priced it out cabinet-​for-​cabinet. In the end, Home Depot was cheaper, but just by a little. However, the experience made it for me. I would go with them over Lowe’s, even if it was a few dollars MORE.
After she quoted the cabinets, she leaned back in her chair and said, «What next??» Music to my ears! I whipped out my granite quotes, asked her about backsplashes, and discussed different floor options. She took me to all the different aisles and showed me exactly what I would need, what was in my budget, and offered advice on DIY projects. Never once did she pressure me or make me feel like I had to leave. She spent over 2 hours with me knowing I wasn’t going to purchase anything at that time and she never made me feel bad.
Home Depot also has other options for cabinets — their renew option, where they just spruce up your current cabinets; and their reface options, where they replace the cabinet doors and drawers and can even change the color. That consultation is free and they come out to your house very quickly. This is another option we’re exploring.
All in all, if Home Depot is still competitive after a few more quotes, I am definitely going to use their services. If you’re in the market for a new kitchen, stop by the Royal Oak store and ask for Lynn!

As previously mentioned, this is the most-understocked…or rather, not-in-stock’d…home hardware store I’ve ever visited. The must amusing example I can think of was when we went looking to buy a ladder. So we could clean out our (one-​story-​home) gutters. THEY WERE OUT OF STOCK OF LADDERS!!! How is that even possible?!?
As annoying as never being able to find what you’re looking for OR someone in an orange apron to advise you of such, Home Depot burned their last bridge with me when I bought two new hybrid teas to fill out my lovingly-​tended rose garden. Despite being hardy breeds and my having plenty of rose-​CPR experience, they both kicked the bucket within a week. For SHAME!
We drive over to the Lowes at John R and 12 Mile now, it’s worth the extra mileage.

Used to be that a woman in Home Depot clearly waited upon a man for some project or needed directions to the nursery. No longer is that the case, but Troy’s Home Depot apparently missed the memo about female clientele.
My two experiences in here followed amusing, similar scripts.
* Show up.
* Associate gives directions to the garden center.
* Smile, carry on my way.
* Look for item that is either: a) missing, b) out of stock, c) apparently not carried, d) stocked in the middle of Utah past door knobs and tommy guns.
* Search at a loss for associate.
* Find associate surrounded by starving zombie mob or engrossed in a conversation about boltcutters.
* Get pitying look when I ask about item.
* Find item or hole where item should be.
* Associate gives directions to the website and the garden center.
In the dead of winter, when the garden center consists of frost-​covered bags of dirt and lonely pallets weathered to a bone silver, I was directed there by an associate. On the off chance that sink strainers or a disposal repair kit might be found among upturned pots and the abandoned fertilizer, perhaps? Another early spring visit involved searching for mundane household items for kitchen and bathroom. Guess where I ended up again.
Two points if you said among the hoses. The orange-​smocked employees ought to know better than to send me on a goose chase and I’ve frequently smiled, nodded, and then asked which aisle to find a heater filter, a replacement package of fluorescent chandelier bulbs with a mini-​base, or a new vacuum filter. Definitely make sure you get clear instructions on where the item is in the aisle, too, because you’re otherwise trying to find an unlabeled house with a grey roof from a satellite Google Earth picture of Novi. You might luck out and find it the first time, but probably not.
I also knock another star off because of the persistent unstocked problem Troy’s Home Depot has. More often than not what I want is missing from the shelves, and I remember I should just order the darned thing online.
Hmm. A gangster style home improvement store. There’s an idea!

Home Depot, or what I lovingly refer to as the tenth circle of hell, offers a love and hate experience.
In the spring, or at the first sign of spring, when the garden center is open, for me it’s like being a kid in the candy store (okay, that’s a stretch). Walking through puddles of water from the hose that was just watering the flowers, stacks and stacks of mulch and woodchips, aisles of flowers, plants, trees and everything else you could want to beautify your home.
And then you step inside, because, oh I don’t know… you’re looking for a filter for a humdifier. You turn down one aisle because someone told you «walk down this aisle to row 33 and turn, it’s at the end», but it’s a dead end because not all the aisles go all the way through. It’s a maze. So you have to stand around with a stupid look on your face until one of the workers decides to take some mercy on you and come to your rescue.
A word of advice though? Don’t stand in the plumbing aisle after ringing the HELP bell repeatedly (of course, after a reasonable amount of time has passed) only to hear «will someone go help the customer in plumbing??». Yes, please, come help me!
Don’t go here if you are looking for quick, efficient service. You’ll get bumped around with an answer of «that’s not my department». Of course, for me, it’s close and convenient, so I try not to go here if I don’t know what to look for.

Having recently moved from Novi to R.O. I had grown accustom to quality and knowledgable service from Home Depot. Apparently, that factor greatly varies on the location of the store. I’ve gone here a few times over the past couple months looking for a variety of materials for the house. More often than not, it seems that it employs less than ambitious 50 – 65 year old men. Asking and finding specific items is usually a pain as the person helping has to wander throughout the store asking help of other workers along the way. I know HD can be better, but this location doesn’t cut the mustard.

The only reason I go to the Home Depot is that it’s close to my house. It’s a good drive over to the Lowe’s in either Sterling Heights or Madison Heights, so this place is unfortunately the only convenient option. And yet, it’s barely worthwhile.
Maybe 50% of the time they have what they advertise in stock, either in a circular or online, and heaven help you if you need to actually speak to somebody.
Thank goodness for speakerphones, I just spent half an hour on the phone with these jokers because I was looking for some plastic tubing. Customer service transferred me to *lumber*, who was as confused and flabbergasted as I was. They attempted to get me to the right department, but while the lights were on, nobody was home. Finally I hung up and called back, and got somebody in said department, who barely spoke English and hung up on me after one question.
Perhaps it’s not reflective of the chain on the whole, but with regard to this location, thank goodness those folks don’t work for me, or they’d be in the unemployment line tomorrow. Unacceptable!
