Tech Valley Connect is designed to provide focused assistance to relocating professionals and their families in the Capital Region. Made up of a consortium of employers in the region wanting to address recruitment and retention efforts, our program focuses on four levels of assistance: spousal employment, family assimilation, cultural transitions and a strategic volunteer initiative. Tech Valley Connect addresses these issues in a comprehensive structured way helping to ease the stressful transition for professional families with meaningful support. Individual Case Coordinators evaluate each family to create an extensive customized and confidential information portfolio which provides local resources and connections to maintain a rich quality of life in the Capital Region.

History

Established in 2010.

Tech Valley Connect received funding from the Elsevier Foundation to develop the pilot program and establish partnerships with 12 PhD-​hiring organizations in the Capital Region. Further support for funding of our website was received through NYSTAR and the National Science Foundation’s RAMP-​Up initiative at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The pilot ran from July 2009 to December 2009. Tech Valley Connect became a non-​profit organization in January of 2010.
