Once Upon A Child

My 2 stars are for Erin and Peggy. They are great. However my last trip to this store was my last. There are a few younger girls who work her and they are rude and insulting. I watched them hold up clothes that were brought in and make fun of them. Saying things like «who brings this in, man she must be real poor». I won’t shop or sell to a place that acts this way, especially in front of customers.

This is my first stop after I clean out the kids’ closets. I can usually get $ 15 — $ 20 for a big rubbermaid tub (with only about half sold), and I tend to turn around and get a few things we need with the money.
They’re very understanding and patient with the kids in the play area while parents shop, which is a lifesaver! The staff are definitely not there to babysit, but they do tend to know which one is my kid and confirm he’s still good if I ask ;)
Buying is hit or miss, but my eight-​year-​old daughter can usually find something she likes, and I can usually find what I need for my son.

call ahead and asked a few questions regarding selling items to the store. I was told to make sure that the clothing I brought in, where in good, unstained condition and to «Make outfits» I asked about some cloth diapers I had and was told that they would take them. I brought in a pack N’ Play, toys and bin of clothes that had very good clothes (even Janie and Jake stuff). I had to return the next to finish my inventory which was annoying. But they hardly took and anything, left the clothes they riffled through a mess in the bin (I made sure all was neatly folded before hand) and was told that they didn’t take used cloth diapers (but would take new, who would sell them new cloth diaper?-must be smoking something good) I think the employees need better train and the staff need to good lesson in what is «high end clothing». In browsing their items for sale, I knew my stuff much better quality and in better condition. Their discounts weren’t much better then new. They wouldn’t take the Aden and Anais blankets I brought in… was told they had to be new and packaged (again, wtf?) a lot of work for not much in return. will not buy or sale with them again. I think they rip-​off both the customer and the seller.

I love shopping and selling at this store! The staff is always fast and courteous when I sell my sons old clothes and I always find great clothes in practically brand new condition for my son at insane prices! For a boy who’s rough on clothes and grows so fast, this is definitely the best place for me to shop. Plus you can’t beat practically brand new Abercrombie & Fitch jeans for only $ 7! I’d NEVER usually purchase this brand for my son because he’ll grow out of them in the next 2 months, but for that price, I’ll make an exception!

OUAC has been in this location for years, but switched owners a couple years ago. The new owner was really sweet when I met her back then and she did a wonderful job organizing and redecorating. Unfortunately, I actually would prefer the old beat up store with the old under-​the-​sea bathroom paint if it meant that I would see the business ethic that used to be there, too. It’s true that this store buys your stuff at WAY below fair price. I recently took a large bin of girls and boys clothes — most only had only been worn a few times and all nice brands (Land’s End, Ralph Lauren, Justice, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Chaps, GAP…) The boys shirts even had all the pick up tags from being washed at pressed at the cleaners. For the whole basket I was offered less than twenty bucks. I KNOW what that place charges for the caliber and condition of clothing that I brought in. It’s a great business model, but not ethical business to try to rip your customer off. I used to be so pleased to know that my kids’ gorgeous clothes would be enjoyed/​see some more wear out them AND I’d get a fair amount of pocket change. Win/​win, right? That’s the way it USED to be with the old owners (and is in similar resale shops in our area). I’m sad to have to drive that far to get/​give the deals I once did so close to my house.

Erin and the ladies in this shop have always been awesome.
I’ve been coming to this location for over 2 years and while I tend to sell more than I buy, I still buy plenty.
Great quality and plenty to choose from.
Wonderful and pleasant, helpful and friendly…

The employees that I have dealt with for years have always been sweet and accommodating to me as a customer…
This store is a resale shop, they sell items at great discounts compared to new. The quality is high and that is why they are so picky with what they buy. I appreciate that they are so picky because that allows for us repeat customers to buy good products.
I am a regular customer who shops frequently and I have never had any issues with the staff being rude.

One of my faves, I drive from Warren, they will give you cash the same day you bring in items and they are always very generous.

Three stars is only for the awesome selection of baby clothes and gear. You’re not gonna find much for your older kids, which is odd because I sold a TON of brand new clothes from my 6 year old son and they only offered me $ 7!!! For $ 85 worth of brand new, never worn jeans! I hard key ever find anything decent for my 5 yo boy, 6 yo boy or 8 yo girl. But my newborn son… Wow! The best selection of newborn clothes I’ve ever seen in resale for a boy! However, the clothes are VERY pricey for resale. You must wait until a sale or it’s not affordable. So in summary, go there to find baby clothes when there’s a sale and that’s all this place is good for.

It’s an okay place to shop, expect higher than usual retail prices, you need to look hard for a deal. Often times better searching clearance racks at department stores! As for selling, they are VERY picky and often times rude. I pride myself in having and keeping nice/​stylish things. They buy very little and pay even less. Better off to have a garage sale and get 3x what they will pay you! Don’t even think of bringing a large item in, CRAIGSLIST it for sure or they will rip you off big time!

I LOVED to buy there when my girls were infants, the prices are good for some items, the store is clean and neat and the staff is helpful. However BEWARE if you plan on selling there you will get paid pennies for your gently used items. I had several items that were high end brand items and I was offered 1 dollar for, everything else in GREAT condition barley worn I was given less then a dollar for. If you never sell, but always buy you will have a great experience especially on their Dollar Days. But prepare yourself when it comes to selling, you will get ripped off.
(For example I had a 40 gallon bin of Baby gap, Gymboree, Carters, Osh Kosh, Janie and Jack etc etc and I was offered 23 dollars for what was in the bin, that’s it!)
Also the store needs to do a better job at pricing the items. I found several items that were priced MORE used then you could get at the local store. It’s a great store if your looking for the typical run of the mill items for babies. However if your child is older then 2, the selections are very slim.

Haven’t been there in a long time but I brought in quite a few baby girl items to sell a lot of items worn only a couple times, some with tags still on them and I think they gave me about 12 bucks for a ton of clothes. I was actually pretty pissed about it Id rather just keep them or donate it to someone who really needed it as opposed to them making such a large profit, I realize its a resale shop but I felt really ripped off.
If you resell items there don’t expect to get anything for them even if they are brand new. I made way more money selling things in my garage sale

What a great place to buy clothes, toys and gifts for kids! The variety of clothes and sizes are all there. Excellent customer service from the staff and the owners are 100%! No matter what season or occasion they sell the most recent styles and everything is very clean.

I had the pleasure of visiting and shopping at Once Upon a Time for my little 1 year old adorable neice! I had no idea what I was looking for in terms of size or comfort and when I asked a staff member, she answered with confidence and accuracy at that! The store is full of a large variety and I can tell they don’t buy useless, worn out stuff! I went during the month of December and they even had a rack of holiday dresses for the girls!!! Made my shopping for the upcoming holiday SUPER EASY and so I had to just get my neice her Christmas outfit!
I walked out with a tons of clothes, pairs of shoes, and a toy and spent less than what I spent on dinner with my husband! It’s great! The quality of the merchandise is extremeley favorable and when you include the price. you just cant get any better than that! Their judgement when purchasing and selling merchandise is A ok to me… and let’s just say, I have high expectations!!! Strongly recommend you shop there!

though I can find good deals at this location I live about 20 minutes away so I don’t go in there very often. I only go in there because its the closest childrens consignment shop that I know of. I often feel frusterated after going in there. Though the racks are organized acording to sizes I often see items that are labeled wrong. for example a outfit 0 – 3 months will be labeled 3 – 6 months. I have more than one occasion had to make returns because of this since no matter how hard I try make sure I got the size right. Also it seems like i spend half of my shopping trip checking tags on outfits I find cute and seeing its labeled wrong. its very time consuming and frusterating.
also the employers do not seem be knowledgeable. when I ask questions in the store I usually get a I don’t know and my last visit I specifcly asked if there was a special section for christmas items and was told no. as I walked ot the door I saw a whole section of a rack with just christmas outfits. what the heck?
and they are VERY particular about buying items. I have tried numerous times to sell clothes there and each time they take apsolutley nothing. its a pain to drop off the clothes wait a few hours drive back and be told they won’t take anything. my items are in good condition as well, some items even are brand new with tags on them. maybey if I lived closer it wouldn’t bother me so much but I pretty much given up trying to sell them items.
i will continue to go back because like I said i do not know of any closer consignment stores that are easier to get to but if another consignment store opens up closer to home i will not come back.

if you are looking for your typical carter’s outfits with the monkies on the feet then this store is for you. I, on the other hand was not impressed. after ten minutes of looking through their small selection of 3 – 9 month clothes i was ready to leave. on the other hand, the store is well kept and organized and everyone there is pretty friendly. they just need to do a better job of stocking cuter stuff.

Fabulous resale shop. Really clean and organized and I get the sense that the clothes are clean too! Most are just slightly used and many still have the tags on them. When I shopped here for my little girl, most outfits were in the $ 4-​$ 5 range.
There’s also a great selection of toys and baby items. I saw lots of bouncers/​jumperoos/​activity centers that are currently at the stores (and cost an arm and a leg) for a decent price. I tried to talk some prices down, but they don’t budge, so don’t try like I did :)
When I visited, I got a Hokey Pokey Elmo for $ 4.50 and some cute clothes for summer.

Love this place! If you haven’t been there recently (since February/​March 2011), go check it out because it is under new ownership and it is remodeled! Looks much more organized and clean now.
I hesitated to give five starts only because when I was there last month, it seemed inventory was a little low. (Still, lots of clothes in newborn up to big kid sizes.) But then again, it just changed ownership so maybe that has something to do with it.
The first time I was there, I scored a huge bag of fall/​winter clothes for my 6 year-​old plus a Baby Alive doll set for about $ 60. We’re talking at least four bottoms, five tops, and two sweatshirts.
The second time I was there, I got two baby sleep sacks (one new-​with-​tags) and two baby nightgowns for about $ 10.
The third time I was there, I got new-​with-​tags snow pants, new-​with-​tags tshirt, 2 pairs of shorts (all for my 6 year old) and a baby Fisher Price cradle swing… all for $ 70. The swing was $ 55. Yes, I could have got one at a garage sale or Craigs List for a bit cheaper, but with way more hassle.
When my kids need anything, I will always try to check here first. I hope the new owner can keep her inventory up, because I love to buy second-​hand stuff in good/​excellent condition. It’s economical and very earth-​friendly.
And one more note, the new owner gives a punchcard for frequent buyers… you get some amount off after spending $ 100 (or something to that effect). Just ask for the details. They are very nice and helpful!

This is definitely a place to shop for your little ones! Every time I go in there I find something I can’t live without! While the store is quite crowded with merchandise, everything is nicely organized by size and gender and everything is of very nice quality (and clean!). The prices are pretty good, too (I will compare with Amazon’s new-​item prices and they’re often more than 50% off). Also, every once in a while they run a $ 5 off $ 30 purchase coupon in the local Save On Everything (?) mailer.
