Best Western Franklin Square Inn

We stayed there the night before thanksgiving. We woke up to find all the exits blocked by a race. We were trapped in there for hours (we got out by moving a police barrier!), missing much of Thanksgiving. The town had posted the race and the streets that were blocked off, but the hotel claimed no responsibility for it because the town had not specifically told them personally which streets would be blocked off (had we know we could have parked to car a block away). Best Western refused to do anything because the hotel’s ridiculous claim of not having responsibility trumped all. If you stay there, and something goes wrong, you are on your own!

This is the second time we’ve stayed here. Staff and management is always helpful. This time we had booked a king sized room in advance on points and received confirmation of our reservation. Upon arrival, we were told that we had a queen sized accessible room. This is NOT what we reserved. The general manager was most helpful, even contacting corporate which whom we had booked the room. He put me on speaker phone to hear what corporate had to say, and their response was, someone locally (hotel employee) had changed our reservation. Unfortunately as the place if fully booked for a wedding we ended up taking the queen room. Besides the small bed, the room is at the end of the hall and wifi there is impossible to use; I’m sitting in the dining area writing this.
I’m waiting to see what kind of compensation BW is going to offer me.
Update, they comped me the room for the night, while I’d rather have had a king, BW came through, thank-​you!
If you’re thinking it’s not a big deal to be in a queen bed, try sleeping in your child’s bed with your feet dangling over the edge of the bed, it’s not a pleasant experience.
The food is typical BW buffet, better than most. The hotel is clean and well maintained.

The hotel is in a good, central location with friendly helpful staff. Rooms are smallish but very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was better than expected: 3 meats, 3 kinds of eggs and lots of other choices. It may need a little updating in terms of décor, but I would definitely return as it was very comfortable and quiet.

Very disappointed! The bed was extremely uncomfortable (I mean EXTREMELY) and the walls seemed paper thin because we could hear everything in the hallway at all hours. To top it all off when we told the front desk all they could do for us was «make a note of it».

I spent just over 100 days at this hotel on business. Ivan and his entire team were friendly, welcoming, and went out of their way to make my stay as comfortable as possible. The in room amenities were great (they provided a microwave) and the bed was super comfortable.
If you are going to Troy, NY on business, to visit RPI or for just pleasure (it does have a quaint, beautiful downtown area, with beautiful architecture and more Tiffany windows that any other town in the US).
Your best choice for accommodations is the Best Western Plus Franklin Square, period.

The staff was very professional and helpful. The rooms are up to date and very clean. The complimentary breakfast was good but not great. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

This place looks brand new and when I walked in, I had a moment of «this can’t be a Best Western.»
The staff were helpful, very friendly and the hotel was spotless.
This is definitely a great spot for those who travel with dogs. I don’t usually get to stay in nice hotels with the pooch. So this was a welcome surprise.
The full hot complimentary breakfast, was also well stocked, delicious and clean.
We had a room right on the water, and in nicer weather it would have been a great place to hang out for a weekend.
Getting in and out is a bit of hassle because of the one way roads but other than that, there are no complaints about this place.

Excellent hotel. Most of our family, and ourselves, stayed here for 2 nights during our wedding weekend, and we couldn’t be more impressed. Firstly, the staff is very organized and on top of everything. They conveniently scheduled our guest to take over most of the 1^st and 2^nd floors, with all of our guests either occupying the whole floor, or just parts of the floor so that we were centralized. Each of our rooms had our welcome bags placed right before each guest checked in, which was perfect. The rooms were clean, smoke free, and had convenient features (min-​fridge, coffee maker). I agree, the heaters can be quite loud when they kick in, so maybe they will upgrade those soon.
Breakfast was awesome. Chock full of eggs, meats, cereals, oatmeal, fruits, even an omelette station one of the mornings. Excellent service. I wish the dining area was a bit larger, as our guests spilled over to the lobby area, but thats just b/​c we had a large # of guests.
Staff was super friendly about us hosting our rehearsal dinner in the dining area. We made a ton of noise, drank, and even spilled over to the lobby and we didn’t get any complaints or rudeness that other hotels might have had. Seriously, the staff here is really top notch, they stay out of your way, are reasonable people, and do their jobs well. No complaints from anyone here.
Also, the honeymoon suite is excellent. HUGE and has all the bells and whistles.

My family stayed here on the night before and night of my sister-in-law’s wedding. We were upstairs in a regular room. It was comfortable and pretty standard. My mother-​in-​law was downstairs in a suite and it was pretty nice. And my sister-​in-​law stayed in another type of suite and it was quite impressive.
The views may not be the most awesome, but the service here was great. They were friendly to having lots of us frequently congregating in their lobby area and with all sorts of random requests to rooms. The rooms were clean and had a mini-​fridge which worked well. The air conditioning was a bit loud, but it was worth it to not sweat it out in the room. The parking was free and seemed plentiful.
The continental breakfast had a good variety and was delicious. It is convenient if you are going to an event at Franklin Plaza or if you would like to be near what seemed to a lot of neat places in Troy. It is also right by a Dinosaur BBQ which is nice for lunches or dinners.

Just checked in. Clean and nice king size room. In room fridge and coffee maker. Full breakfast in the morning. Friendly staff. Requested more hangers and got them immediately. Free wi fi and free parking. All seems good so far. (on a different note, avoid ordering from Dino BBQ across the way. Not worth the convenience of room delivery!)

I spent a few nights here last month, and was very impressed. The room was well appointed, the wireless service was reliable, and the breakfast was good with a lot of variety. I have no problem with there not being a Starbucks inside the hotel. As if there aren’t enough of those everywhere? Not to mention, I just think Starbucks coffee is bitter, and I’ll take hotel coffee over that slag any day. If anyone is really jonesing for a latte, there’s a Dunkin’ Donuts right down the street.
The thing I noticed the most about my room was the towels – they were soft, fluffy and absorbent. Yes, I notice these things, especially because the week after I stayed at the Franklin Square Inn, I was in Texas and stayed at a Hilton Garden Inn (which is supposed to be a nicer hotel than a Best Western), and the towels there were like sandpaper.
The hotel staff was very friendly, professional, and helpful.
I also really like that there are washers and dryers available. I would suggest, though, that in addition to detergent, the hotel try to make dryer sheets available in the vending machine.
The hotel is in a really good location. It’s right across the street from Dinosaur BBQ (SO good! I’ll be reviewing that soon!), and a little further down the main street are more restaurants, and that Dunkin’ Donuts. There’s also a CVS which, if they were smart, would stock many more travel-​sized items being located so close to a hotel. (Yup, another review coming soon.), but which is still very convenient for many things. Lots more stores, coffee shops, and restaurants within walking distance. There’s also a bus stop very near the hotel if you don’t want to walk, and don’t rent a car.
One slight negative is that the mattress was encased in plastic. I’m thinking this probably has a lot to do with trying to counter or prevent any bedbug problems, which are becoming so prevalent in a lot of hotels. But plastic doesn’t breathe, so it makes sleeping a little uncomfortable. Waking up sweaty when it’s 13 degrees outside is just weird. But it’s preferable to being bitten by bedbugs for sure.
The reason I deducted one star, though, is because, like another reviewer, I also found an inordinate number of hairs in the bathroom, as well as in the bed. I don’t think I need to explain the ick factor that goes with finding someone else’s hairs anywhere in… well, anywhere. Maybe the housekeepers need to wear hairnets?
Overall, it was a good stay, and I would definitely stay there again.

The hotel itself is great, and comes with good amenities. Easy access to wireless makes work in the room great. Good location – lots of places within walking distance.
The problem is the breakfast. Yes the food is great– and there is Starbucks, but it doesn’t start until 7! Courtyard Marriots start at 6. Am I just spoiled? I am up at 5 as usual and I have no food and limited coffee until 7. For shame!
