We introduced my sister to the Edgefield experience and dinner in the Black Rabbit. The squash lasagne and the flight of local wines was a huge hit. The sauce was interestingly flavorful. Service as usual was attentive & thoughtful.

Delicious food, great atmosphere, very professional wait staff. My husband and I went here for an anniversary dinner, and it was just perfect. Definitely recommend the winter squash lasagna and the wild boar! Homemade icecream always a plus too…

Although I am disappointed about the recent health review I’m satisfied with the Black Rabbit in general. The service has always been friendly and efficient and I always get the same thing… The Smoked Salmon Benedict. It’s Devine but I’ll tell you this in hopes the restaurant will perk up its ears. This item due to the hollandaise sauce REALLY needs to be served on a warmed plate. Once that sauce hits a cold plate it turns something blissful into something you wish was warmer as you eat it. I’ll always go back.

Went here for dinner and the prices were even higher than listed here. We spent 100.00 for two of us and only one of us had a drink. The salmon was the worst mushy mess I’ve ever tasted and the mashed potatoes were swimming in butter. I will never eat here for dinner again.

Had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated to a 1⁄3 empty restaurant. Sat for about 15 minutes before I got up to ask the manager if we could have a server. Ordered the grilled cheese sandwich(roasted butternut squash, guava paste, gruyère, truffle mayonnaise, and bacon) which was to die for except way too greasy. They ad butter to all sides of the toast and it just takes it overboard. My friend ordered breakfast, edgefield breakfast(three eggs any style, choice of meat, roasted potatoes, toast) which was a good size portion and tasted pretty good. Whatever seasonings they use on the potatoes are delicious. Hopefully they were having an off day, but we were disappointed.

Horrible service and food was subpar. Came in on a Tuesday to get lunch. We thought it would be packed since they have pretty good reviews on Unilocal, but it wasn’t. Regardless, our waitress still took her sweet time chatting away with her co-workers. It seriously took her forever to come and take our orders. The entire place/winery was enormous though. They have a golf course and nice-looking fields.

I eat here all the time because its close to where I live, but every single time is disappointing. Great fresh squeezed drinks. But I have had to call a bartender on it being fresh squeezed when I saw him pour orange juice from a bottle then try to convince me it was fresh. Not to mention the food is horrible. Iv had to send it back so many times, I no longer say anything cause its embarrassing. Iv had black over cooked bacon, you cant believe they would put on my plate. Raw egg inside my omelette. Dry potatoes. So dry you can hardly swallow on my breakfast plate. And yesterday I only took two bits and the food was so greasy. Ugh. Honestly only go there for the drinks.

My husband seemed a little grumpy this morning. We are both in between jobs so to speak. And we were driving through Troutdale, grumpiness unabated, he says«I know what I need! my favorite breakfast in the whole world!» If you were me you would’ve said exactly what I said which is: if that’s what you need to be happy the rest of the day, that’s what you’re getting. This is my husband’s favorite breakfast in the whole world for the following reasons. The Black Rabbit seems geared more to dinner– which makes it ideal for introvert breakfasters like me! We have always gotten phenomenal service. Thats true whether we are sitting in the dining room or in the tiny outdoor courtyard which the wait staff reach by long narrow stairs– and always smiling. Today our hostess was so welcoming and warm that we spent the first part of breakfast discussing her awesomeness and which of us should tell her that she has a beautiful smile without it seeming creepy. Very soon aaron’s favorite breakfast in the entire world arrived: the three egg omelette with Gruyère cheese bacon and sautéed sweet onions. It was just as wonderful as any of the other 21 times he’s eaten it in the last year. The omelette is $ 13– but worth every bite. Prices are higher than Elmers but much higher value. You pay three dollars for incredibly great orange juice rather than a dollar 50 at IHOP. WORTH it. Classical music is played. The staff is LOVELY. The kitchen has made my husbands favorite breakfast in the entire world at noon when he asked them to. This has happened. Tiny birds live everywhere in the eaves of the building and will entertain you out the window(I kid not.) Basically, do yourself a favor. If you like food and you like having a nice breakfast, then go see if my husband’s favorite breakfast in the entire world is also one of yours.

Five stars for having the best soft pretzel in my life here. My friends and I stopped here for a quick post-hike drink and snack before lunch and the bar was a perfect spot. The pretzel($ 5) was large, soft, chewy, buttery, salty heaven. It came with a large cup of cheese dipping sauce that was smooth and delicious… not the typical fake yellow cheese stuff. I seriously considered just eating pretzels for lunch. I saw some trays of food pass by and everything looked good! Bartenders were super nice and knowledgable. Thank you to the nice man who brought me a plate of bread and butter! Would love to come back for a full meal one day.

Came here the other night with a fairly large party. I used to work here and have been frequenting this place for the past 17 years or so. It’s the same as it has always been, pretty solid food with the standard«McMenamins» wait time. They are notoriously slow at every establishment. It’s like they try to be slow to set an expectation and standard, but the product you get is 9 times out of 10 quality. This is one of their signature restaurants, fine dining. The food is always and that night was fantastic. The wild boar is what I had, wow… The Boar gets a 5 star in my opinion, but I can never give a McMenamins restaurant a 5 star.

Delicious wild Boar. The drinks took a while in what wasn’t a packed restaurant. The meal would have been a little better received with a little more generous portion of the side. The cost of the mashed potato is pennies. No need to skimp on that part in my opinion. I would highly recommend the wild boar though.

We came here for Thanksgiving Day dinner 11⁄25 as a family of four… We had never been to McMenamins, so we enjoyed the beautiful setting, the gardens and historical stuff before going in, got some great photos. Izzy was our server, and she was wonderful the whole time. We had reservations, arrived a bit early and were promptly seated. Old school, dark wood interior, with some kitsch, and large painted murals all around. We asked Izzy and she gave us a quick rundown of the how they tell the history of the property. Being a non-drinker, our server recommended for me a Bundaberg Ginger Ale that came in a stubby bottle, very tasty! My son ordered their famous bacon bloody mary which came with an enormous thick slice of bacon — he wound up having two :) Ok the FOOD! First, they brought a fine selection of fresh baked rolls, and we ordered two salads to share, and Izzy let us ‘split’ them with no fuss, we had the roasted baby beet salad(petite lettuces, navel orange, wind mountain creamery goat cheese, toasted hazelnuts) and the spinach salad, both nicely prepared and seasoned perfect. For appetizers we had fried brussels sprouts(bacon, moscatel vinegar, local smoked honey, parmesan) & the antipasti plate(chicken liver paté, salami, artisinal cheeses, pickled vegetables, grainy mustard, toasted baguette). The brussel sprouts were a real surprise and delightful, I’d order a whole plate of these for myself! The antipasti was fun and we all ‘relished’ our first taste of chicken liver pâté(well…) Yum! My #1 son ordered the grilled ribeye steak(blue cheese potato gratin, broccolini, red wine mushroom reduction), son #2 had cioppino(san marzano tomato, blue mussels, crab, halibut, shrimp, grilled sourdough), wife ordered the roasted pork chop(gigande beans, chanterelle mushrooms, bacon, poached figs, rosemary pork jus). Me, I ordered the special Tday dinner — free range turkey, mashed potatoes/dressing that was topped with the most amazing cranberry sauce ever(bring me a bucket of it next time!) The turkey was PERFECTLY cooked, moist, tender, the best I’ve ever had. Wife absolutely RAVED about the pork chop and let me have a taste, i had to agree it was the best. My sons ribeye arrived quite rare(he ordered medium rare) and like all good restaurants they did come around to verify, and they took it back and got it to the right temperature. Nice! Probably one of the most wonderful restaurant dinners I’ve ever had, and it was a real delight to be here on thanksgiving and get such a well prepared and served meal. Highly recommend. So — Unilocal shows the Black Rabbit has a $$ rating — with a ‘bar tab’(including two ginger ales) of $ 31(a relatively low price for 4), no dessert, plus tip we were at $ 234, very near the $$$$ rating of $ 61/person. So I’m putting $$$$ at least for dinner. Not complaining, it was worth every penny! Also, make sure you visit the lavatory :) its got some real antique cool stuff in there as well.

This was a pleasant surprise for me. It overcame a lot of things working against it such as: Potentially just Hotel Food being that it is at a McMenamins resort location as well as the mere fact that it was Breakfast, which sometimes can be overlooked on the quality side of the street. Well, McMen’s lived up to their high-quality standards and the Breakfast was done right. To begin, the coffee is most excellent and not just for«Hotel Standards». McMenamins has a roasting location and sources all of their own beans. While staying at their hotel locations, coffee is complimentary and well-kept(after 90min they dispose and brew a new pot, regardless of the volume remaining). Ironically, the table was all feeling a similar style of breakfast and the Edgefield Breakfast was the«go-to» selection. Personally, I substituted the meat for avocado and the toast for a biscuit. The Biscuit was the best decision I made all day. In-house prepared and baked, this guy could stand alone. The avo was avo, but next time go with the bacon. I sampled a friends and it was thick fatback, cooked w/that perfectious(new word) crunch. The eggs were eggs as well, but the potatoes were truly done right. Most likely par-cooked then skillet fried or roasted, with whole roasted garlic cloves and copious amounts of southwestern spices. From the jam to the hot sauce selection, Black Rabbit has my approval as a breakfast done right. Pretty darn good. Just go with the Biscuit man, Go with the Biscuit.

Friendly staff, great coffee, homemade ketchup and mimosa! Nice breakfast spot. Had there black rabbit breakfast sandwich with potatoes. Nice touch with Alvarado inside the sandwich. About $ 12. They say the place is haunted and weird things happen at night. Chee!

Sorry Black Rabbit but need to give you three stars for this reason. We had 9:30 reservations. We ordered a round of drinks for a party of 7 and then ordered our meals which were all amazing BUT as we received our meals we weren’t asked if we wanted more drinks or a glass a wine to compliment our fantastic meals, we were asked what kind of dessert we would want. We asked to order drinks and they said the bar closed at 10p. REALLY??? For such a fine dining restaurant they should never have the bar closed until the last patron leave. When we got our bill our waiter apologized only after we pointed out how ridiculous this was. Don’t think we’ll be back since a dining experience should not be rushed.

FUNPLACE and the food is pretty good, too. We went in for lunch with friends and had a pleasant meal. My wife liked her Potato Leek Soup and I had the Oregon Bay Shrimp Louis Salad which was average. But my dessert, the Affogato, was the best part of the meal. The restaurant is in an historic old building located on beautiful grounds. The setting is worth the trip alone. Food — 3 ½ stars Service — 3 ½ stars Ambiance/Décor — 5 stars Location — 5 stars

Came here after a friends graduation for lunch. We were seated outside after about a ten minute wait(and we had a party of 10), very cute place. It’s a rustic, garden-feel. It was so hot outside but there was a nice breeze and nice shade for us :) We ordered drinks– champagne cocktail($ 11) screwdriver($ 6.25) Bloody Mary($ 7.75) –and mimosas($ 6.50). The drinks came fast and were very god and refreshing on that hot day! The only thing keeping me from giving this place a 5 star is the wait it took to receive our food. Yes I know we had 10 people, but it was literally over an hour of waiting. There was a table of 6 people next to us who came after us, and they all got their food and finished it before we even got ours. We ordered eggs benedict($ 13) ceased salad($ 10) house smoked turkey sandwich($ 10) black rabbit burger($ 13) grilled cheese sandwich($ 11) and penne tonno($ 14). The food was amazing! It tasted so good, I have literally never had a grilled cheese this delicious, I just wish the service wasn’t so long! 1 hour is just unreasonable. Anyways, I will definitely love to return here and try more of their food, I think maybe next time we will come with a smaller party Service: 5⁄10 Food: 10⁄10 Overall: 7⁄10

Late lunch on a Monday. One of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I’ve ever had(described as roasted butternut squash, guava compote, gruyère, truffle mayonnaise, with optional bacon). Great fries, too – served with homemade ketchup. Very good bread, too. Good service, great atmosphere. The only down-side was that we didn’t have more time to explore the building, grounds, etc.

I’ve been eating at McMenamins for as long as I can remember but generally ate at the Power Station when visiting Edgefield. This was my first trip to The Black Rabbit. My girlfriends and I manage a child-free and husband-free brunch 1x per month. This particular month was also in celebration of my birthday. We all love Edgefield, so I figured this would be an excellent treat. I made reservations and the group was seated promptly upon arrival. It was busy that day, but not over crowded. We had an overall great experience. The food was spectacular. I had the 3-egg omelet which was delicious! I can’t remember what the rest of my group ordered, but there was about 7 of us and everyone was VERY happy with their food. The only downside to the visit, and again it wasn’t slammed, is that overall brunch took 3hr because the service was terribly slow. Perhaps they were short staffed that day… I am glad I was with great company :) Atmosphere is great. Edgefield alone is fantastic! Food was great. Prices are great. Overall, definitely great :)
