Savannah’s

I came here for the first time for a wedding dinner and it was amazing. As a lover of seafood, I had seared scallop & shrimp pasta in a white sauce. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the shrimps were big, slightly crispy outside and soft inside just as they should be. The pasta was delicious and the bread and garlic butter we had on the side were amazing as well, my husband and I joked about fighting for the last piece of bread on our table.
The wedding décor was beautiful and the waiters were all very nice and helpful, always around to provide drink refills and extras. I can’t think of anything I didn’t like about my experience at Savannah’s, I would definitely come back if only it weren’t an hour away from home.

Love Savannah’s! Not only their food delicious, but their service is awesome. We went there on a Friday night and were told if we didn’t have a reservation there was nowhere for us to sit. I was a little annoyed but I know the restaurant is not very big so if they have reserved parties it’s understandable.
We were craving their food so much that we decided to go for a late lunch the next day. We told the man who sat us (also the new owner), and he apologized for being so busy on Friday and bought all of our drinks! They have a decent selection of craft beer which is awesome and I’ve never had a bad dish there! Good job, Savannah’s!

If you are down river, you must stop by. Food is delicious, and the new owners are so nice. A must!!!

We have been here several times. The food is good. The atmosphere is quaint. They have an elevator in the restaurant for those who can not climb the stairs which is nice. The prices are okay. The rolls served in the pre-​meal bread basket are sweet and served with a sweet butter… ick! The serving staff are untrained. Polite and eager to please but unaware of how to provide excellent service. They could really benefit from some service training for their employees.

At first you think how cool, a large old house converted into a restaurant. Yes, we did think that, and we thought how great our dining experience was going to be. However, that was not the case. From the time we sat down, 15 minutes to get water. Then another 25 minutes to order our food. Then we waited, and waited, and waited for the food to arrive, another 35 minutes.
We enjoyed what was a perfectly prepared meal. The food was sensational! We enjoyed the meal without the waiter (not waitress), coming to check on us or the meal that we had, at this point thoroughly enjoyed. Once again we sat, we sat and we sat until finally the waitress form the other tables noticed us and asked if we were OK. I asked for the check and she (not our waiter?) brought it over. I slipped my CC into the holder and once again we waited… 15 minutes; however no one come to collect my payment. Between my wife and I we were able to gather up enough money to pay the bill, with only $.72 tip. Even though our waiter was one of the worst in my dining history I was still going to tip the man. However due to the fact that they could not collect my payment he got what was left in my pockets…
Needless to say, the overall dining experience was terrible based on the account of this sad excuse of a waiter.

Had my wife’s parents 50^th anniversary party here. The food was really good & the service was «OUTSTANDING!» Most folks got either the ribeye or the jumbo fried shrimp & everyone was happy. Will definitely use this place again. BTW I think it changed ownership, just before we went? :-))

If We hadn’t eaten at Savannah“s before we would have never tried it from these bad reviews… WE LOVE Savannah’s from lunch having, a pasta and sausage dish, Prime Rib hoagie, and a steak panini at lunch to A dinner service of prime rib’ chicken picata, shrimp and steak and the desserts, carrot cake, key lime pie, hot fudge cream puff (as u can see we have tried several dishes and never been unhappy and the wait staff has always been great One of the best restaurants downriver.

This building has been so many different eateries that I can’t remember them all. Hopefully this is the one that sticks. I’ve been here a number of times and the food has always been great. The only thing preventing a fifth star is the aging décor. You will enjoy yourself.

My son and I decided to go to Savannah’s for something a little nicer then the usual. The restaurant is really cool inside. It was a Monday night so they were not busy. We were greeted right away and seated. The crab cake appetizer was good, we both ordered fillets medium they were cooked okay but had a burned taste to them. Vegetables were mushy, onion soup a little salty. Food was average… The service was average to poor. Had to wait for drink refills, server didn’t connect with us at all she was blah. When I pay an $ 80 for 2people (no alchol) I expect better friendlier service. Given the average food and not great service I doubt we will return.

I’m so disappointed at the current bad reviews for this place as our first dining experience here has made us crave to come back.
Recommended to us by my in-​laws, we came here with a coupon. They told us to get the prime rib sandwich at lunchtime. We did and we are craving to go back even without the coupon.
I have to say this is the best steak sandwich I have ever had… the French bread hoagie style roll was toasted, light, and airy… the fresh mushrooms and onions, sautéed perfectly with just the right amount of cheese. The meat juicy, beefy… The au jus is what made it… dipping the sandwich in this beefy goodness was what made this sandwich. You could tell all ingredients were fresh and that the au jus wasn’t just something packaged. The big hearty steak fries were the perfect side to go with this.
Please try this!!! I haven’t tried other things on the menu, but this sandwich is amazing enough as it is. Will be going back this Friday :). Can’t wait!!!

The service was nice, the food fair (is it too hard to keep the lettuce crisp in cool water, not straight from the bag???) the ambiance lovely at Christmas, totally ruined by a speaker of loud radio music, blaring from the ceiling. This is a big disconnect for the quiet ambiance. Who thinks this is good for business? Maybe for the wait staff, but for customers, it is a BIG turnofff. I don’t get it. I don’t think the owner does either.

To sum it up quickly for those of you who are in the Trenton area and hungry right now, don’t go to Savannah’s unless you have $ 50 to spend on dinner for two.
Okay, now that they have wandered off to Taco Bell, I will give the rest of you the whole story.
Savannah’s is housed in the old part of Trenton. The building is a 19^th century converted home, beautifully maintained and decorated. Part of the experience of dining here is not always knowing in which room of the house you may end up being seated, and all rooms are lovely and quiet. The setting is perfectly intimate, the largest section holding about seven regular tables for 2 – 3 persons. Reservations can be made for showers, receptions and small parties for folks looking to charm the socks off of their families or friends. The décor is intimate and seasonal, and is a welcome change from all of the overly manic chain restaurants in the downriver area. You would think you were sitting in your rich great-aunt’s parlor around Christmas.
Now, the food: it is what I have always thought of as haughty American – lovely soups, carefully made, lavish fish dishes in various handcrafted sauces, upscale chicken dishes, steaks, pastas and all the recipes appear to be unique. These are dishes you would make at home if you were looking to impress your new best friend. They make an apple and chicken in cream sauce dish that makes me weep when I eat it. There is nothing too ethnic on the menu here, nothing dramatic – nothing that will embarass you by being carried out by two people before being set on fire. You already know and are familiar with the type of food served here, and there is comfort in that. The quality of the food is consistent, and it may take you a few minutes to decide what you want to try. The menu has brief descriptions of each dish, and isn’t so packed with choices as to overwhelm and frustrate you. You know how you hate that.
The service: Well, Savannah’s, there is a reason you did not get five stars from me. The service is inconsistent from visit to visit. At one visit, it seemed as though we were being waited on by someone who was plucked out of the kitchen staff to fill in for the regular waitperson – he kept clearing things off of the table and disrupting what we had hoped to be a lovely romantic evening. Nothing is worse than sitting with your husband of ten years and having the server swooping in to pluck the used Splenda packets off the table even before they finish fluttering to the pristine, white tablecloth and loading them onto the one unused bread plate remaining. Ah, well. Most of the time the service is good – quick, polite and respectful of the fact that this is not Applebee’s.
Newly marrieds will do well here. It would be a lovely place for a first date. Most celebratory meals would be well-​handled at Savannah’s. I would not recommend bringing your young children here as it is not the most kid-​friendly – but then again, it isn’t intended to be. One of the things I love about Savannah’s is that they re-​lay the entire set of table linen after each customer has left that table. You won’t feel too out of place if you show up in jeans, or if you show up in a suit jacket. Give it a try the next time you want to try some real honest-​to-​god food.

Downriver does not have many nice restaurants to choose from but their menu here is all their own made up recipes which is awesome! i had the white fish with the tomato relish seasoning which just melted in my mouth! The prices are not made they rage around 10 – 20 and a few above. Try the muscles they are very good the sauce is just right not to over powering. They give you fresh warm bread as well. Our waitress was very kind and was very attentive. The experience alone was cool just because we were in a about made in the late 1800s! Great way to recycle :)!!

My husband quit smoking a few days ago, so as a sort of «reward» I wanted to buy him a nice steak dinner. This spot is near the house, so I convinced him to give it a shot. We pulled into the parking lot at 6:30 on a Saturday night and it was packed. That seemed like a good sign. It wasn’t. I was so unhappy, I actually considered walking out, which is very unusual for me.
My biggest gripe, right off the bat, is that everything is sweet and the chef apparently doesn’t understand the concept of seasoning. I’m fairly certain there isn’t a grain of salt to be found in the entire kitchen. Yes, there’s salt on the table, but a dish shouldn’t leave the kitchen completely lacking taste.
I’ll start at the beginning. The bread basket rolls were soft and warm… And sweet. The butter, unsalted. Normally the bread and butter doesn’t impact the overall meal. In this case it served as a harbinger of flavors (and the lack thereof) to come.
The crab cake appetizer came on a bed of sundried tomato cream sauce. The overwhelming fishy smell when they were set down was unappealing, but my brave husband went ahead and tried them. He took one bite and told me he wouldn’t feed them to our cat. Ouch. I tried the sauce and it was sorely lacking any taste of cream or sundried tomato. A sweet tomato sauce, maybe. According to my husband, it was an awful fit for crab cakes.
I ordered the portabello ravioli. Since it was intended to be served with the same sauce as the crab cakes, the server offered an alternate Marsala sauce. I gave it a shot. Surprise, surprise, the sauce was sweet. But, I mean dessert sweet. I ate one of the ravioli (almost tasteless) and gave up.
My husband ordered the prime rib (special) which came with a side of yellow squash and some spaghetti marinara (although he was told it had meat sauce). He had the option of soup or salad and went with a French onion soup. The soup, he said, was sweet (ask me if I’m surprised). He reported the marinara sauce was sweet. I agreed. He was nice enough to give me his squash since I didn’t eat my dinner. It was the one thing I tasted that wasn’t sweet, but sadly, it wasn’t seasoned at all. I gave it a dosing of salt and it ended up the best part of my meal.
Luckily, my husband enjoyed his prime rib. He asked for medium, which our server assured us was a ‘true medium’. My husband added that, if anything, the cook should ‘err to the rare’. Err to the rare they did. It was, at most, medium rare, which, ultimately, is fine, since he enjoyed it. He also enjoyed the glass of wine he paired with his steak, although the server initially forgot to bring it.
The service was also sadly lacking. That bad appetizer? It sat, with only one bite out of it, for more than 15 minutes before anyone inquired if there was a problem. The person who finally bothered inquiring was a busboy/server’s assistant, not even a server. HE was the star of the night.
We won’t be back. The only reason they even got 2 stars was because my husband enjoyed his steak. After learning I gave them 2 stars, based on his enjoyment of the steak he said, «I didn’t enjoy it THAT much».

Nice historic atmosphere and our server was helpful and attentive. The food was disappointing. Salmon Duvall sounded like s good idea: salmon topped with crab with Alfredo sauce and parmesan. Unfortunately, the the sauce & cheese totally killed the flavor of the fish. The prime rib looked good, but was tasteless and chewy.

As with my review on Andiamo, I can’t comment in terms of price but everything points to a good value. I also couldn’t speak to the full menu because we ordered off a special fixed menu.
The service was indeed great. Our waiters and waitresses were on point the entire night. It is a very cozy atmosphere. The upstairs was great for a larger group and other rooms looked good for a quiet dinner for two. After driving from Newport and passing nothing more than a few fast food restaurants, it’s not a stretch to estimate that Savannah’s is the best place around.
My only knock was that my dish was a bit on the buttery side. I went with the salmon and it looked like it was the same for a pork chop dish at my table as well, but other than that everything was good. My fish was cooked well and the portion was good. I was a HUGE fan of the Chicken Pot Pie soup. I probably eat soup during a lunch or dinner at least 3 – 4 days a week and to find a pot pie soup was like a best of both worlds.
If you find yourself in Trenton, give Savannah’s a look.

So so lovely! We had the private room for lunch and it was just so quaint and perfect. The service was great as was the food. I had the summer salad and completely cleaned my plate. Everyone really did. Ya! I’m a fan.

With the two current reviews and given that the previous restaurant that occupied this space was so fantastic, I was excited that I would be able to eat here. Upon walking in I was impressed at how nice it was for being a downriver establishment (growing up here, you kind of know what to expect out of everything). We had to wait a bit to get a table, but I am glad we did because if it wasn’t for that I would have never been able to sit at the awesome old school bar they have. I would definitely come back here, but only to hang out at the bar.
As for everything else… it all fell flat. The servers did not concur with the vibe the place is going for. One waitress seems like she was plucked out from behind the bar at the local dive bar, and our waitress seemed like she was new as she was trying really hard to get the motions right, but failing on the timing and a natural feeling delivery. My girlfriend said it best «she seems like a high school drama student playing the part of a upscale waitress». The only two people in the building who were living up to what the place wanted to be were the hostess and the guy refilling water.
As for the food… meh. At it’s very best meh. Do people think downriver has no idea as to what fine dining should be like? My food was just flat. Nothing imaginative crossed our table, and nothing stood out as being any better (worst actually) than anything I could prepare at home.
I ordered the strip steak dinner with the upgrade to french onion soup. Having never experienced French onion soup before this was fantastic, but I have no basis for comparison. The soup was very rich, and the cheese on top was mild. It was probably the best thing of the night. The steak was accompanied by a sort of cheese potato that was a very bland mix of hash browns, cheese and cream, and a «chef cut veggie» that is under suspicion of being a bag of Steamfresh vegetables. The steak was good, but it was just a steak.
My girlfriend ordered the Chicken with artichokes in lemon butter, that came with the same veggies, a pasta side, and chicken and dumplings for soup. Quite similar to my plate her pasta dish was bland, her chicken was uninspired and lacked any character, and her soup was the star of the show.
After dinner we decided to get desert since we skipped apps. My girlfriend picked out the cream puff. I was excited to see it, but as soon as my fork hit the outer layer I knew it was going to suck. The chocolate, cream, and ice cream all tasted nice, but the outer shell had the worst texture ever, like it had been sitting around all day. kinda ruined what could have been a fantastic desert. I was upset we skipped the bourbon pie.
This is nothing more than overpriced fancy diner food in a nice building. I could have easily spent my 70 bucks somewhere downtown or in the northern burbs and walked away with a full stomach of food that I would have remembered as something special. They really should have left The Blue Nile there as the food was about 100x better than what Savannahs is dishing up.

I am from Trenton, and I have seen this place go from steakhouse, to ethiopian fare (bad idea) and now back to steakhouse. I went there to eat last week for the first time since it changed to Savannah’s.
They were double-​booked and we didn’t have a reservation, and we were told the wait would be approximately 45 minutes, so we decided to sit at the bar and wait. about a half-​hour later we had our table. All around the food was very good (especially the bread!) I would say they pretty much have typical steakhouse fare at typical steakhouse prices.
My favorite part about this place is the atmosphere. Being an old house, there are never too many people in one room and it never gets too loud. i would definitely go back here.

Jacob and I got wind of this restaurant from the woman who owns The Gallery Deli. She’s all about supporting Trenton businesses, so she suggested we try the place if we felt like spending money.
The restaurant is housed in a vintage home on Jefferson in the heart of downtown Trenton. It’s a very neat place to have a meal!
Upon entering, we were ignored by three young women. No one greeted us or even said «We’ll be right with you.» That really annoyed me because I am SO service-​oriented.
After a minute, a hostess said she’d seat us. We were led upstairs of the huge old house and seated in a large room with only one other table of guests. The décor was really amazing. The oldschool wallpaper, light fixtures and wood detailing were all fun to look at.
Our waitress was a sweetheart. She went over the specials for us (twice) and was really helpful when we needed help deciding what to order.
I decided to be safe and ordered the 10oz. sirloin steak with their house potatoes. Jacob got one of their specials – grouper stuffed with crabcake.
They served these delicious mini-​loaves of honey wheat bread with whipped butter while we waited on our entrees. I asked for seconds and our waitress had no problem with bringing more.
We both ordered French onion soup with our entrees. It was incredible! The broth was the perfect temperature, the bread in the soup was flavorful and the cheese was boiled on top just right. It really hit the spot!
Both of our entrees were great! My steak was ordered «medium.» I’d say it came out more of a medium rare in areas, but I’d rather have it a little undercooked than overcooked. The taste of the steak was amazing. It was obvious they put care into seasoning their steaks and the result was delicious. The house potatoes were great. It was a hashbrown/​sour cream casserole sort of dish. I really enjoyed it!
Jacob’s grouper had a really great flavor. It was his first time having that fish. It was well-​cooked, well-​flavored and was a good portion. He really enjoyed the crab stuffing, too.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was one of my favorite aspects. While eating our food we kept looking around us and enjoyed the history of the former home.
We decided to get dessert. The dessert tray was nice but I had my heart set on some chocolate brownie cheesecake! Jacob and I shared it. It was rich, sweet but not too dense. It was the perfect complement to a perfect dinner.
Our bill (keeping in mind we both ordered water) was $ 48. We felt it was reasonable for the service, atmosphere and quality of the dishes we ordered.
We dressed smart casual and I’d say it was appropriate. You could definitely have a rehearsal dinner, wedding dinner, birthday dinner or anniversary date here, though. It’s a «special occasion» sort of restaurant.
My boyfriend and I had an amazing dinner here. It’s a newer business, so if you are into trying new places and want a little more atmosphere, try Savannah’s.
