My luck ran out. Until today, I had eaten lunch in a vast array of restaurants, delis, bars, joints and dives without incident or regret. I went out for my usual late lunch and was in the mood for a couple of local slices of pizza or tomato pie. It is getting harder to find a place I have not sampled before, but my good fortune had almost always found one more parlor where I could eat at least a decent pie. Until today. First, I went to Bell Italia on S. Broad. The chef was gone and the man reading the Trentonian told me there were no pies available at 2:30. Okay. Strange, but these things can happen. Then, I went to another place I had driven by dozens of times farther out on Broad. Roma’s Pizzeria and Restaurant sits alongside a 7⁄11 and a Chinese take out. Walking in, there were a couple of pair of high school girls sitting at booths and chatting on their phones. The guy behind the counter was pleasant, and I ordered two slices of pizza, «well done.» He understood. I looked for an empty booth, but all of them were full of crumbs and debris from earlier meals. The counterman saw my perplexed look and came over to spray and wipe the booth and bench I was closest to. Gratitude. He did not touch the others. I sat facing the front and looked around. The floor had not been swept in a while, and the living plants by the windows were neglected and their falling yellow leaves littered the floor. What did they ever do to you to deserve that? The slices arrived, and they were indeed well done. Still, the heavy load of cheese was too much for the hot crust and bent over, dripping oil on the solitary paper plate, and the table. It did not taste too bad, but it was mediocre at best. The sauce was mildly salty, no hint of basil, cheap cheese — all combined to give me a case of heartburn the rest of the afternoon. Most days I eat the bear. Today, the bear ate me.

This is a great place! I love the pizza’s and the buffalo wings. I also love the fact that they don’t sell pork products, as a result, I started eating pizza with Turkey Pepperoni on it and it tastes great! Ive had other foods from this place as well and I highly recommend this place. The food is awesome and the owners are very pleasant.
