An absolutely stunning, 2000+ acre monastery, visitors center and retreat. The center offers displays and video presentations about life at the monastery as well as a gift shop offering all handcrafted items from around the world, including fruitcake, bourbon fudge and cheese made by the monks themselves. The Abbey was founded in 1848 by the Order of Trappist Cistercians and is home today to Trappist monks who open doors to spirtual seekers from all parts of the world. If you ever need to get away from literally everything and come someplace that is peaceful, quiet and perfectly serene, a retreat here is the thing for you. Miles and miles of forest await for you to explore and reflect, and the monks accomodate your every need, from a clean, comfortable room, to meals, to daily prayer(if you wish it — you don’t have to be of any particualr denomination — or any at all — in order to come here). The vistors center was very informative and the items in the gift shop exquisitely crafted. I bought some cheese and fudge and admired the various carved sculptures, paintings and other pieces of art. You can buy the food they make through their website:
