Dr Nelson Hu’s goal is to provide you the finest orthodontic care in the most efficient manner in a caring, warm and state of the art office. This is made possible by our team of highly trained staff whose sole purpose is to make your every visit a memorable one.

We specialize in treating both adults and children. We offer esthetic self ligating clear braces that do not stain, lingual braces, Invisalign and Invisalign Teen. Our Holistic approach to orthodontics makes sure that your smile enhances and compliments your overall beauty.

New Smile Orthodontics has been serving Tracy, Mountain house, Lathrop, Manteca and surrounding communities since 2003.

Business Owner

Dr Nelson Hu graduated with distinction from the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Dentistry. To enhance his dental experience he continued with a General Practice Residency at LAC/​USC Medical Center after graduating from dental school. Dr Hu received his Specialty degree in Orthodontics from NorthWestern University in Chicago.

Dr Hu has been practicing orthodontics since 1997 for 18 years and loves what he does. Dr Hu calls Tracy home and loves to give back to the community. He has been a rotarian since 2008 and helps sponsor scholarships and has been providing orthodontic treatment at reduced cost to low income families.

I went to New Smile after I had my braces put on by another orthodontist. My very first visit to New Smile went very well, Dr. Hu told me everything as to my treatment process! I was very impressed. Every time I went for my appointments his staff was so professional! and never had to wait very long! Loved that. I went through my entire treatment process with absolutely no problems! I am now finished my braces are off and could not be happier with the results! Than you so much Dr. Hu and Staff! I still go by there from time to time and bring them chocolate treats! You guy are the best! Keep up the amazing work!

The step by step process is nothing short of amazing. I wish I had taken my other 2 kids to Dr Hu. If you want to save time, effort and sleep comfortable knowing you will have a great smile when done, this is the place to go!

Based on recommendations from family members, I (my parents) made the decision to travel from Modesto to Tracy for every appointment. I underwent orthodontic procedure there for approx. three years and now I’ve been braces free for about five.
Dr. Hu and his staff have always been great to me and when the braces came off, the feeling was exceptional.
If I ever had to get braces again (which I won’t because Dr. Hu did a great job) New Smile Orthodontics would be my first choice.

My case was a little unique. I was undergoing Invisalign treatment for 4 years with my prior orthodontist but was unsatisfied with the results I was getting. My prior orthodontist then transferred me to get traditional braces at New Smile. After my consultation with Dr. Hu, he told me that he would complete my treatment without charging me any additional expenses! That compassionate gesture alone made me realize New Smile was going to be a great fit for me.
My experience at the office was always smooth. The check-​in process is easy and I never waited more than 10 minutes to be seen by a staff member. Dr. Hu and his staff were all extremely friendly and helpful during my appointments. I was always informed of what I would be undergoing at each office visit.
After a year of traditional braces with New Smile, I finally have the smile I’ve been wanting! I am so grateful to Dr. Hu and his staff. Thank you for being so accommodating and ending my long struggle for perfect teeth!

If I am going to spend money on something that my child needed especially expensive oral care, I’d rather spend it on a business that provides excellent service. So far, this exceeded my expectations since I already knew that my child will need braces in the near future. They set me up with a plan to better understand his oral needs and started him off in the right path, and they worked with me financially. The staff and the assistants were very receptive and helpful especially Dr. Hu who’s very personable.
We are looking forward to when my son’s ready for that dreaded braces (and financial costs that comes with it) and maintain great business with Dr. Hu and his establishment.

My husband, myself and our 4 children have all been patients of Dr. Hu so that should tell you something about how we feel about him and his staff! They are all very professional and have awesome personalities!
I was the only one who opted for using Invisalign for my ortho treatment and I couldn’t be happier with the entire process and the results! It allowed me flexibility with eating foods, which I really liked.

So coming here, the staff is really kind and detailed as far as the operations go. I got my braces on today and they were really informative as far as what to expect when getting the braces get on. Jenny was the one who took care of me, and she was really kind to me! When I showed signs of discomfort or fear, she adjusted and made me feel comfortable and not scared. We talked about our love of Sushi and where to get some good food in Tracy. She was great! :)

Our 11 year old Daughter was in need of braces. DDS. Matsune of Tracy recommended a few Orthodontics offices. We set up consult appointments with both of them and then let our Daughter choose which one she was most comfortable with. She chose Dr. Hu. Every appointment was greeted by friendly staff. She had rapid results and her teeth look amazing. Dr Hu even accommodated a emergency visit and the Doctor came in on his day off to help. The office even has iPads for the kids to play with at each DDS chair. An all positive experience. That is very rare to get these days. We will be bringing our other Daughter there too when the time comes.

As a kid, I refused to get braces. The dentist in our area was kind of intimidating. As an adult, I chose Dr. Hu and New Smile Orthodontics. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made. Dr. Hu and his staff are warm, caring, and friendly. They made my wife and I feel as if we were part of the family. We both received braces from Dr. Hu and overall I am very pleased with the excellent treatment. My braces were removed last week and and I am very happy with the results. Dr. Hu, Meiling, Jennifer, Jenny, Lorena, Vicki, Angela, Cara, and Laurie all provided us with an excellent experience. Thank you New Smile!

Dr. Hu and his excellent staff deserves «Five Star».
They know how to take care of people. My daughter’s treatment took more than one year but all appointments and treatments were very smooth and excellent at all.
Dr. Hu and his staff really knows what professionalism is all about.
When my daughter needed help in weekend, Dr. Hu called us right away and provided good advice. He also reserved time in the following Monday to take care of my daughter. Dr. Hu treats my son as well.
I strongly recommended my coworkers and friends. Yes, I only recommend «THE BEST» to my friends.

This is a LONG overdue review.
My treatment lasted for almost 3 years. This was my 2nd round of braces, the first one being when I was a teenager. Fast, forward to about 15 years, and I finally had enough money to really get on with this.
Dr. Hu and the whole staff… I can’t say enough good things about them. Very professional, clean facility, and they made the office a welcoming environment. The pre-​treatment process was detailed and thorough. The financial part was explained in detail.
I love my set of chompers now. I’m a satisfied client. =)
As you can see with my other reviews, I tend to focus on the negative of businesses. Not this one. This one deserves a positive review. They deserve my 5 stars! =)

I cannot thank Dr. Hu and his entire staff enough for the experience throughout my treatment years. Everyone is so pleasant, friendly and kind.
Dr. Hu and his staff were always able to address any of my concerns whether it was a simple xray or billing enquiries.
I felt very comfortable and I strong trusted the work of Dr. Hu.
If you’re looking for an Ortho in the area, this is the place to go.
They work very well with people of all ages. I had braces as an adult and my child should need braces in the next couple years and I will definitely be brining my child to Dr. Hu for treatment when it is time.
