Continuing our longtime family tradition of giving good old-​fashioned neighborhood service, Star Auto Service is proud to provide reliable auto repairs and maintenance to drivers in Towson, MD and surrounding areas.

Whether you need an oil change, Maryland state inspection, or major repair work to be done, we can do the job! We specialize in servicing Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, Smart Car, and Mini Cooper and are capable to work on any other European and Asian Imports. All our work is performed using quality parts and equipment in our annually-​updated facility by our ASE-​certified mechanics.

As a family-​owned and operated business, we take pride in providing personalized service to each of our customers, and we offer courtesy rides to pick up and drop off drivers at home, work, or the light rail in Lutherville.

Born and raised in Germany, Bob’s interest in German engineering began at the age of two, starting with motorcycles owned by his uncles. Bob learned his trade in Germany and moved to the United States when he was 20 years old, working on Volkswagens and Mercedes at the dealership level since 1967. Bob’s training at the factory level includes Mercedes, VW, Porsche, Audi, and Subaru. Bob’s hobby is riding his BMW motorcycle with his motorcycle club. Bob’s mission is to keep his neighborhood drivers safe through honest work and dependable auto service. He stands by his reputation and would love to serve you for all of your auto repair needs!

This place was awesome! I called to get a Maryland State Inspection they fit me in the same day I called. I got there and they started my car right away. I was in and out in less than an hour and very satisfied! I brought my two kids with me and they brought them crayons and gave them snacks while we were waiting. Great service and very friendly I would recommend them to anyone!

Took my car there on a Thursday. Friday am they called and quoted me a price for the work that needed to be done, said it would be $ 380. They called later in the day to say they wouldn’t get to it until Monday. Brought it back Monday, then got a call about 2 hours later saying that they had misdiagnosed the problem and that the repair would cost $ 780 ($ 599 for labor alone). I told them no, went to get the car and they gave me a bill for $ 260, $ 80 for a minor headlight adjustment, over $ 100 for «diagnostics», taxes, etc… I will NEVER go there again and will go out of my way to tell others. Not only did they waste my time and money– no apology or thanks. Took the car to Kidd’s and they fixed the problem within 24 hours at the price Star originally quoted.

Would never recommend this place!!! I would not like to give it any stars! I’m a young female I went there by myself because my car was not running well on the way to work. Having seen the great reviews on Unilocal I went to them. All the quotes they were giving me seemed very high! But not knowing the area well and being pressed for time left me with not too many options. In the end they charged me $ 150 for a diagnostic check, something that typically costs about $ 50. And $ 50 for an oil change, I typically pay in the mid to high 30’s…I confronted them about the huge jack up and they played dumb… They also were unable to tell me what was wrong with my car and said that it could be several things and they wouldn’t be able to figure it out until they actually did the several things they assumed it was… LADIES please do not feel comforted by the woman they have at the front desk, she is the biggest scam artist and is not looking out for anyone. She puts on a good song and dance. In regards to the other reviews that are listed here, and after my experience with them, I believe they were written by people close to that business or people who work there. I would not recommend any female to go there and it is not much of a family place, it’s a dump. In the end I paid $ 200 for an oil change…

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. I rarely ever write reviews for ANYTHING I do unless it has stricken me extremely necessary. This is one of those cases.
A snowy weekend in Towson left my entire car covered in a layer of ice. I got into my car and after some defrosting tried rolling down the (automatic) window. It didn’t work, so I removed some ice around the edges and tried again. It slammed down into the door and would not come back up.
After some research my father came across these Unilocal reviews and suggested Star Auto Service. I took my car here and they told me I needed to replace the Window Regulator and it was going to cost $ 491. I told Star Auto that I didn’t have the funds (being a student) and asked if they could at least prop the window up, since it was snowing and raining at the time. They said it wasn’t possible to prop it up and proceeded to give me a $ 63 labor fee for doing absolutely nothing, which was understandable… I guess.
We took my car to my father’s work (he’s in the Coast Guard) and he had some friend mechanics owe him a favor so they checked it out. Apparently, the regulator was fine and intact. The window was just off of the hinges like we expected and was a quick fix. Calm and collected I called Star Auto Service back up and after a short conversation they returned my $ 63 back.
I’m sure the other posts are written by Star Auto themselves or maybe lucky customers that have had the better end of the deal but, I will go out of my way to prevent others from going through what I fortunately avoided. This event would have went a lot different if I had paid the $ 491 and found out it was for nothing.
FOR ANYONE THAT DOESN’T FEEL LIKE READING EVERYTHING:
Star Auto Service lied and said my window regulator was broken and needed replaced when the window was actually just off of track. They tried charging me $ 491 for a job that was only worth the labor. Please do not support this unjust type of business.

Thanks to fellow Unilocalers who gave Star Auto wonderful reviews, I was inclined to try this auto shop out. I’ve had awful experiences in getting my Audi properly serviced at Valley Motors in Cockeysville (too many trips to get to the root of a problem in addition to a lack of confidence in Valley Motors’ mechanics). I was at my wit’s end and decided to try Star Auto to tend to problems that the Valley Motors couldn’t fix.
I’m very glad I followed my instincts. I brought my 2003 Audi A4 3.0 Quattro in to Star Auto this morning and was given such wonderful service and personal attention. The mechanic (Rocky) explained my car to me in more detail, even showing me exactly how some of the parts interfaced with each other. How many times has a mechanic allowed you to see the car from their vantage point?
Even before the moment I walked into the door, I knew this shop places a high emphasis on customer service. All of my emails were promptly handled by Tammy. When I walked into Star Auto for the first time today, it felt like I was welcomed into a family.
No more Valley Motors for me. I highly recommend that if you give Star Motors a chance to work on your car. As one of the reviewers mentioned, this shop is non-​descript. I’ve driven past it countless of times. But it’s what’s inside that really counts. And inside you’ll find staff who have been there a long time, who have deep expertise, and who don’t rip you off. In fact, I was told by Rocky that I didn’t need to have as much work done to my car which saved me lots of money. He even thought to fill my spare tire while he was doing my oil change. How cool is that?

I am a huge fan of Star Auto. At first you think, hum, this looks like any other auto repair, but do yourself a favor and look again.
I broke down right in front of the garage in my 1977 Mini and with it being an old car, I didn’t think they’d be able to help me. It turned out all that I needed was gasoline. Opps, my error, but they were totally honest and very helpful. They came out to help, drove me to the gas station and I was on my way promptly.
I have since been back for repairs on my car and they went beyond what was quoted and didn’t charge extra because they wanted to get my car back to correct condition. It turns out they are true auto enthusiasts. And from past experience in auto racing, autoX (Auto Cross performance driving) they know their way around cars. They also know how to treat a customer, in offering to driving me home after dropping off my car.
I am sure you’ll receive the same friendly and professional service. But if you come in chatting about cars, you’ll get a full conversation from true auto enthusiasts.
