In July of 2008 Kolmac Clinic opened its newest intensive outpatient program (IOP) location in Towson, Maryland. Formerly Partners in Recovery, Towson was the clinic’s first location in the Baltimore area. The office is conveniently located on the campus of the Sheppard Pratt Health System.
This location provides ambulatory detoxification, day and evening IOP, continuing care, a relapse prevention treatment track, and family services. This location now provides ambulatory detoxification on Saturdays. The intensive outpatient rehabilitation sessions are held in this office in the mornings from 10:00am to 1:00pm and in the evenings from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. The continuing care and family group schedules vary, so please check with us for the current schedule.
History
Established in 1973.
The Towson office opened in 2008.
The Kolmac Clinic program was established in 1973 as an evening program for the treatment of alcohol problems and co-occurring disorders. Beginning in 1983, the Clinic program expanded to include the treatment of drugs other than alcohol. In order to provide treatment closer to where our patients lived and worked, additional offices were established in the District of Columbia in 1984 and Gaithersburg, Maryland in 1988. In 1992, a morning program was started in the Silver Spring office to accommodate patients for whom the evening program was not convenient.
In 2006, an office opened in Columbia, Maryland where no IOP programs were accepting insurance. In 2008, Kolmac took over the Partners in Recovery treatment program in Towson, Maryland. This office represented a unique opportunity for Kolmac to become a part of the array of behavioral health services offered on the campus.
Meet the Business Owner
George K.
Business Owner
Dr. George Kolodner is an addiction psychiatrist who specializes in the outpatient treatment of substance use disorders. He received his M.D. from University of Rochester, and completed his psychiatric training at Yale University.
While serving as a staff psychiatrist at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bethesda, he witnessed recovery from alcoholism for the first time at the hospital’s residential rehabilitation program. Motivated by this experience, he became interested in replicating this success in a non-residential setting. After leaving the Navy in 1973, Dr. Kolodner designed and implemented the first intensive outpatient addiction treatment program in the country — the Kolmac Clinic — where he continues to serve as the medical director.
