Forget the reviews if you want to try the best fried«all the way» dogs since the closing of Falls View. I don’t go here looking for exceptional service or someone to love my pet. I go here for hot dogs and fries. Period! I give it 3 Stars only because it’s cash only and the ATM is always out of service. I hate cash only joints. I give the hot dogs 5 stars.

Just… No. I don’t know what to say except the place smells as soon as you walk in. Couldn’t even walk to the counter to order.

IFYOULOVEYOURANIMALSANDCHILDREN, DONOTGOHERE. My parents grew up going to Pappys. They brought me there on several occasions and it was okay until the day things went from slightly bad to entirely worse. I was a very sick kid, unable to eat much but on a trip passing through to get the usual; hot dogs all the way. As my parents went inside, I took my puppy, a therapy dog, out of our car to walk across the street so he could relieve himself. I am out of the parking lot, not even on their property and the owner came outside; grabbed my arm and started screaming at me and swatted at my dog. We weren’t on their property and she’s now put her hands on me and is swearing left and right. Needless to say, my mother came rushing out, pulled her off of me and cancelled the order, vowing to never go back and possibly press charges for assaulting a child, one who happens to be a sick person. If you love your animals, don’t go here.

My family has come here for generations. A local staple. We always get hot dogs«all the way»(onion and chili sauce topping) and gravy fries(flat steak fries). Delicious. Typically take orders to go. I’ve never had a problem with the owners. They always have been sweet and said nice things.

For better or for worse(mostly for worse), Pappy’s is a Totowa institution. This place has literally been here since the beginning of time; you can tell by the outdated décor and stone slabs that pass as chairs. The service is slow, and the the people who work there are as friendly as your lunch lady from grammar school. The food isn’t bad. They have decent hot dogs and burgers. Moreover, the food is dirt cheap. For $ 8 you can walk out with a hot dog, a burger fries and still have some left overs. Not a bad deal, especially if you need to put food in your gut.

The other reviewers are not nuts, and they are not lying. I had a similar experience in this greasy spoon. I went in to this place with a friend who is a local, and has an office across the street. We were going to get a To Go order. First of all, no one goes there. The place is always empty — for good reasons. The food is a solid C. Minus. Yes C-. The thing that pushed Pappy’s over the edge, and Gordon Ramsey could not save this place, is the hot tempered, and clearly racist«cute old couple». The woman said to my friend, in front of me, «I hate those Jews». He turned to me and said to her, «He’s Jewish». The color drained out of her face! She tried to recover and said, «not his kind of Jew — the other kind of Jews». Whatever that means. We walked out without ordering. When you serve the public, you need to keep your opinions to yourself. I’m waiting for these racists to go out of business. Maybe something decent will open in its place.

I had my doubts about some of the other reviews. How bad can a diner be? So I stopped in for breakfast at 7:30AM. Only one other customer in the place. No waitress; just one guy who was taking orders and cooking. In the half hour that I was there one more customer came in — got a takeout order. The locals must know something and are staying way. I asked for corned beef hash — my typical diner breakfast — sorry not on the menu. So OK should I have sausage or bacon with my eggs? Both are good? So against my better judgment I went with the sausage. Food came out fast. Eggs were fine, home fries were good, toast was hot and buttered, coffee was acceptable, but the sausage had little or no seasoning — I left most of it on the plate. I did not see a TV, no music, no Wi-Fi. Décor is nice enough. Menu prices are inexpensive. There is a little diner down the street which looks like a dump but has good food and is busy. This place needs an intervention.

We tried to go here but they didn’t take credit cards. We left our car in their EMPTY lot and the crazy old lady owner came OUTOFTHERESTAURANT, screaming at us in a wonderful mixture of Italian and English, including«go F your mother.» Avoid this disaster at all costs.

They serve good diner food. I especially liked their fish and chips. The bathroom was very clean and the servers were pleasant.

So sad, I’ll bet that Sam DeFeo would be ashamed. I guess John has started to backslide after 40 yeas or so… Might be time to throw in the towel… Sad.

Two co-workers and myself stopped at this diner for a quick lunch. I did my homework so I knew ahead of time that credit/debit cards were not accepted. The food was tasty I ordered the shrimps & chips with a small side salad. The food was not overcooked nor greasy, and didn’t take long from the time we placed the order to the time we were eatting it. The downfall to this place was the incredibly offensive smelling restrooms. I thought I needed my NAVY issued OBA(Oxygen Breathing Apparatus) it was worst than tear gas and I kid you not. Had I gone to the bathroom prior to ordering, I probably would have not ordered any food. Thank God for hand sanitizer. This will be a «last resort» eattery for me.

After a scenic evening’s drive around Northern NJ to pick up various Craigslist scores(yeah $ 20 dining room table!), the hubby and I were ready to head home to Maplewood when the skies opened up and it started to pour. Rather than brave the drive in the crazy rain, we spotted Pappy’s and decided to pull in to have dinner and wait out the storm. As another reviewer noted, this is a two-person operation by the owners, a sweet old Italian(I think) couple, with her serving and him cooking. From the people sitting at the counter and coming in to pick up «the usual» orders, it seems like this is a local institution. That said, the restaurant was enormous and completely empty(granted this was a Tuesday at 9PM during a thunderstorm) other than the two of us and a handful of guys at the counter, so I wonder if this is a place whose glory days may be behind it. My chicken parm was okay, although the pasta was on the mushy side, and hubby said his pork chops were extremely salty. But the service was warm and sweet and hospitable on a cold and rainy night, and that rates at least 3 stars in my book.

This place is not that bad looking and was pretty clean inside but the help and the food ruins it. I had gone here with my girlfriend to try a burger and a few dogs around 9pm. There was a two person show(at least when I went). The waitress and the cook. I think they own the place. The food was ok(similar to white castle type of quality) but the waitress was picking her ear with her pen and then her noise while I was eating and just completely nasty looking(food marks all over her outfit too). Even though the food was kind of ok, I would not go back here even if the food was free.

We went to Pappys for the first time last night. The place is a clean Mom and Pop place with good service, great food and good prices. It’s true they do not accept credit cards but if you can’t afford $ 1.85 in cash for a delicious Texas Weiner«All the Way», maybe you should consider not eating out. There were quite a few people there including a large group of kids with a couple of adult chaperones. Almost everyone leaving and coming into Pappys seemed to know the older couple running the place which reinforced my positive opinion of this place.

This diner was awful from the first moment. Everything is incredibly outdated. The children’s high chairs were broken and filthy. The food and the service were terrible. To top this all off, they don’t accept credit cards. When I mentioned that they should display a sign that they don’t accept credit cards, I was told that I should have noticed that they don’t have a sign that they accept credit cards. Avoid this restaurant at all cost.
