Dr Shrader was the on call doctor after my surgery. There was an emergency issue with pain management (I was given my nerve block in the wrong part of my leg) and he basically told me that having my level of pain was normal but if I really wanted I could go to the ER. Where’s the compassion. Just because I was not your patient doesn’t mean I should have to suffer, don’t take call if you are not going to care.

My 6 yr old son recently broke his arm (badly and in 2 places) a couple of days before Christmas falling off the high part of a blow up jumper at camp. After a recommendation we trusted we left the ER and went to Dr Magovern. Best decision ever! He did surgery the next morning. He was incredibly great with my son and his worried parents but more importantly he was knowledgable and explained all options thoroughly and took very seriously our concern that he not have any long lasting impact later in his life from this injury. Ironically I ruptured a disc while caring for my son (a 3am need for a memory foam mattress to sleep on the floor due to uncomfortable cast). After climbing 2 flights of stairs I felt back pain and later after an exercise class I collapsed in agonizing pain. Dr Magovern saw me immediately and fast tracked me for MRI etc. He then referred me to another Dr in house Dr Loddengaard who is a spine specialist. He is fantastic! He identified a ruptured disc impacting a nerve severely and was able to get me into much needed surgery within a week. All the PTs and another friend Doctor agreed in my case surgery was absolutely necessary. I hear he does not recommend it unless there is just to little options (and my pain was very severe!) I will also say Dr Loddengaards assistant is fantastically efficient and really on the ball. Charity’s communication is concise and she is easy to reach by phone and by email whenever needed. She also worked quickly to get a preauth from my insurance (no easy feat).
I have read the other reviews and some made me nervous at first so this is my comments to that. Mixed bag on the staff. Some are above and beyond great. The lady that checked me in most of the time was personable and knowing all the special needs of my son and then later the fact that I could not sit without pain she would always give me an estimate time of wait. And yes — this office is busy — you will most likely wait. That is just the truth of it. There was also another male staff member who very kindly helped out when my sons anxiety went on overload with the cutting of his cast (they had to change his cast several times for the different stages). He talked him thru — showed him the «drill» was safe and he could even touch it and not be cut and took the time. The previous staff member went running on his first scream. Also the xray staff has 2 people that are good and one not so much. Seems like he is training. The lady is the best. I think Dr Macgoverns assistant was out on vacation so we did not deal with her as much. As mentioned Charity Dr Loddengaards assistant was tremendous.
My one and only true complaint was the lady who answered the phone on my first call. We were leaving the camp and my pediatrician had said to try and take him to the ortho first. (Since then the Doctor and everyone else I spoke to agreed) This lady was completely without empathy for my screaming son in the background and after she told me «well everyone is at lunch» (at 11:15am) I said I would wait in the office but my son was in a lot of pain and I was concerned about shock as well. She said I should just go to the ER — clearly not wanting to have a screaming child in the wait room. I tried harder but she was adamant. We wasted precious time and my son spent a lot longer in pain then he had to because of this. Had we come in at that time then the surgery could have happened that day. I did not take a star off because the doctors and some of the other staff are so incredible they deserve the extra credit and I still recommend this place completely. I would just advise them to brief their staff and have a plan for true «emergency» situations and what to do — not to say everyone is at lunch.

It’s fairly obvious that the reviewers on TOSMG’s Unilocal page don’t work in medicine. Waiting for a bit in the lobby isn’t nearly as important as the risk of post-​op infections and/​or complications associated with a doctor’s shoddy work. I work at one of the hospitals where many of these surgeons operate and in all of the years I’ve dealt directly with their patients, I’ve not seen any problems. That’s why I am seen by Dr. Shrader, my parents and children have all been patients of Dr. Halikis, and Dr. Shrader replaced my mom’s hip. Flawless work every time. Safety in medicine is more important than bedside manner (it would be nice, but it won’t save your life). I’ve not had any issues with their office staff, I’ve never waited longer than 15 minutes for an appointment, and I’m happy with the results. There are plenty of doctors whom I wouldn’t see for free, let alone operate on anyone I care about. But these guys are fantastic and are trustworthy.

I went to the Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center (Urgent Care) and they confirmed that I had broken my foot so they recommended Dr. Huber. So I called to make an appointment with Dr. Huber but he was all booked up so they set up an appointment with with Dr. Loddengaard. And Dr. Loddengaard was nice and all but he missed the fact that I had a blood clot in my leg. My leg was initially really swollen which isn’t out of the ordinary when you break your foot but it was still really swollen a month later so I made yet another appointment after my final follow up appointment. And, they took another X-​ray and the bone was healing so I asked about the swelling and he said, «Oh, everybody heals differently» so that put my mind at ease and I was on my way. Well, I went in for my yearly physical 8 months later and I told my doctor that I had broken my foot 8 months prior and I said, «My leg still gets swollen, is that normal?» and he said, «Uh no, that’s not normal.» So, I went in for an ultrasound a couple days later and I ended up in the ER and the hospital for 5 days because I had a DVT in my thigh. I didn’t know too much about blood clots so I read up on them while I lying there in the hospital and figured out that it happened around three week after I broke my foot. I had deep muscle pain that started out in my calf, then it moved to the back of my knee and I just figured it was because I had walked a lot that day. Well, unbeknownst to me, it had moved to my thigh and thankfully it lodged in my thigh instead of going to my chest, heart or brain. But, it would have been nice if it could have been detected earlier because the vein is permanently damaged now and I have to take a blood thinner for the rest of my life.

I have been seeing Dr. Kenneth Park for a couple of years now for an ongoing foot problem. He has wonderful bedside manner and one of the best orthopedic specialists I have ever been seen by. His office secretaries who assist him with paperwork issues (disability forms, etc.) are very competent and GREAT at their job. I personally have never waited more than 15 minutes to be seen, and unlike a few of these posts complaining about the front desk, I have found them very competent as well. Dr. Park has operated on me on three occasions and he has just been terrific…

Front office seems to have issues picking up the phone and calling back patients. Endless ringing of the phone, long wait times on hold and days wait to get call backs.

After months of severe hip pain I came to see Dr Todd Shrader. After an X-​ray it was very obvious I was bone on bone and needed a total hip replacement. I had never had surgery before and was very nervous but Dr Shrader assured me I would be much better after the surgery. I had the surgery and that evening I was standing up with very little pain. Amazing!!! I was in the hospital for 3 days and when I was released I was able to climb up 28 stairs to my house. Dr Shrader did an amazing job and I am forever grateful. Its been a year since my surgery and I have never felt better.

You need to set aside days to get an appointment set up and actually see a doctor for for a whole 5 minutes. A live person has never answered the phone, never, even once, in 7 appointments. The waiting room is huge and for a good reason, because you WAIT. If you have a fracture it will be healed by the time they see you. They could only get away with type of service with orthopedic patients because they CAN’t run away. Isn’t there anywhere else???

I’ve seen 3 doctors here — Dr. Rogers, Dr. Huber, and Dr. Shrader.
The only reason why this place gets a 2 star is because Dr. Shrader did my ACL reconstruction surgery back in 2007 and he did a pretty fantastic job with it — no knee pain afterwards! He’s not exactly a «sweetheart» so don’t expect to get babied and sweet-​talked in his office — he gets down to business and if you don’t have your questions ready, then get ready to wait another hour in the waiting room for your next appointment.
However, 8 years later, I came back for a case of back pain (which turned out to be an SI joint problem) but not one of these doctors could diagnose what was wrong with me. Dr. Huber was actually really nice about it and he talked me through potential situations about why my back was hurting. We ordered a lumbar MRI which came out perfectly clean.
He referred me to Dr. Rogers — let me just start off by saying that I agree with all the other reviewers. She is NOT a very nice or professional doctor. I told her that I had been seeing a chiropractor for my back and she just kind of rolled her eyes and threw her head up in the air and looked at me like I was the stupidest person in the world. She then ordered an MRI of my cervical spine (what? I have lower back pain) because she didn’t know what else to do for me and my lumbar spine MRI had come out perfectly. When I asked her why, she didn’t really give me a straightforward answer except «I saw one other patient who had similar symptoms and he had pain in this and these places.» Um… well I didn’t have any of the symptoms she was referring to but she refused to discuss further unless I got my second MRI. So then I did. and it came out perfectly clean. and then she wrote me a prescription for physical therapy for a syndrome that I looked up and I was pretty sure I did not have.
Long story short, DO NOT GO SEE Dr. Rogers for any spine problems you are having. With anything, a patient has to feel comfortable with her doctor and Dr. Rogers most certainly does not make you feel comfortable or taken care of as a patient.

I was seen by Dr. Shrader for a torn acl and torn meniscus. Initially he presented himself well and appeared well versed. However, after being given inaccurate information, a rushed appointment and condescending tones I promptly decided he was not the surgeon I would entrust my injury to. Fortunately, two other orthopedic surgeons offered concurring opinions and were very efficient and attentive to questions and concerns.
One positive comment I canoffer is his secretary Patti is awesome and extremely efficient.

I have seen many physicians at this medical group since 2007, including Dr. Rogers, Dr. Shrader and Dr,. Magovern. I can’t say enough good about the competence and compassion of the medical staff
However, this is a very large and complex organization consisting of multiple employees in various positions such as secretaries, managers, business and tech positions. Many of these employees are incompetent, immature and have unprofessional attitudes and behaviors. Once you have an issue with them, you are good as gone after they disparage you with the doctors and other staff. It goes downhill from there,.
Not recommended due to very poor office politics and lack of staff accountability.

I see Dr Rogers merged with this company. I wish she would stick to physical therapy. Maybe do less harm to people.
Dr Rogers is extremely eager to cut into your spine. If you are still in pain after rehab… she will tell you it is «phantom pain» and literally blame YOU. The one in PAIN.
Her ego is renowned in the industry as well as her hack job operations.
Seriously, get a second opinion. Please, before going to this basketball star trying to get numbers on the board for her ego!
As you state, Dr Rogers, not many women in the field. You, Dr Rogers, are not representing very well. You take spines almost as serious as a b-​ball game. You have no empathy, that I have witnessed, and are literally ruining lives.
I gave two stars because the girls in front were always nice and the place is clean. Although, count on a long long wait.

Dr. Park is the best! He is very kind, has a great bedside manner, is incredibly knowledgeable, and answers questions/​emails promptly. I trust him implicitly and know he puts his patients first. I just had PRP done on my achilles and he performed the procedure expertly and efficiently. I highly recommend Dr. Park and would not go anywhere else.

Dr. Rogers is a joke. I was admitted to LCMH and I couldn’t walk and I was super scared and let her know that this would be my first back surgery. She seemed rushed like she had other places to be but in a hospital… this was the same way she behaved in her office… hurried like she had somewhere else to be. As if us patients don’t help pay her light bills. Going back to that day in the hospital she giggled during a reflex test which was already embarrassing and then she said «I don’t have to do your surgery.» I looked at her and said «Then don’t, you can go now.» She came back the next day, go figure. I read her reports when I got my medical records and I knew she was a bitch but boy she was a b*tch oh and did I say she is a b*tch? She’s so full of herself… I have a friend who works with her and when I asked if she should do my fusion and if I would get good results from her and that person said I would have better luck tying my shoes with no arms. My sibling and I both had to have had back surgery from this «cutter» and when asked what her percentages are she had the nerve to say 1.5−2%…Gahaha…so then why if she did my surgery, my siblings surgery, and two other people’s surgeries that I know did their backs reherniate? If that’s 2% then I’m Chris Rock. She’s such an eager beaver to jump to a fusion too… she’s unreasonable. If you’re more than 10lbs overweight be prepared to hear her wrath. Uh… Doc if someone is a little overweight they know it… you can quit being Captain Obvious. Anyways, I spent a month in the hospital yet again to fix the new herniation with a new doctor… nurses talk… NOBODY recommended her for my second surgery but I was bored and I really just wanted to hear opinions of the many, many nurses I talked to. If it were between her and Dexter doing my surgery… well, it’d be Dexter. If I could give no stars I would… take your chances and go see her. You’ll wait forever and you’ll see there’s nothing in her eyes but $$ dollar signs. Same goes for Dr. Peck… he’s about as passionate as a dead person. He’s got this dry personality and reminds me of a serial killer and when I heard him say «oh shit» during my epidural… ummm pass, never again. This is my back you idiots. Peck is one paranoid guy but don’t do the job if you can’t/don’t feel the need to help. Everything from their inmates… I mean staff to the four docs in that group I’ve seen to solve this issue are… as one of my fellow Unilocalers said questionable. They want to keep you on a hamster wheel chasing this dream of getting better as you continue to pay those co-​payments and never get there. If you choose to come here or you have to I’m terribly. And I hope you have a better experience.

Dr Shrader is a great guy, his administrative personnel are questionable at best and evidently the organization makes no provisions to handle more urgent needs. I crashed my road bike this morning and landed hard on my left hip on which I had surgery in 2002. Literally laying on the Strand I called Torrance Orthopaedic, told them what happened and that I needed an X-​ray immediately. Shrader was out of town, so they scheduled me with another doctor. I cannot describe how difficult and agonizingly painful it was to get from where I crashed near Dockweiller beach to their office in Torrance. When I finally get there, I’m late and they make me wait telling me they don’t know if they can still see me… So I wait, they finally call me back to the counter and say they’ll need to reschedule me for another day. I explain again that I’ve just been in a crash, that I’m in excruciating pain and just need an X-​ray to determine if anything is broken. Someone here has got to be able to read an X-​ray. Let me add that they’ve been kind of caviler the whole time. This woman looks me straight in the eyes and says «well our X-​ray machine is down anyway». Done!!! Oh BTW I’m sitting in an exam room at South Bay Orthopaedic right now and I’ve already had my X-​ray. Should have thought to come here first. Came here for my knee in 2012. Dr. Silvino is a great Knee and Shoulder guy and the staff here is amazing and caring.

After two years of chronic shoulder/​neck/​elbow pain, I finally went to see a specialist. It wasn’t my shoulder causing me pain, it was two herniated discs in my neck. The pain was off the chart but the thought of neck surgery was terrifying. Dr. Tiffany Rogers discussed my options and went through the procedure with me on two different visits. I agreed to the surgery and she fused two discs in my neck in November 2013 and I am forever thankful. The recovery is no joke (3 – 4 months down time) but I don’t regret my decision. Dr. Rogers’ rocks, she is straight forward and is looking out for your best interest. If you are experiencing neck, shoulder pain and numbness, I highly recommend you go see Dr. Rogers!

Dr. Macgovern is great. My daughter blew out a ligament in her knee and he performed the surgery. He was a 2^nd opinion, as the first doctor she went to wanted to cut the bone of her leg. She is only 20 and it seem incredibly drastic. Thank God we got a 2^nd opinion. While the office staff are friendly, Dr. Macgovern’s assistant, Monica, leaves MUCH to be desired. I think she maybe older than time and possibly that’s the issue, but she doesn’t not get back to you right away for ANYTHING. It takes several follow up phone calls on our part, which is why I am only giving them the rating of 4 stars.

Came here for my back pain! I went for a consult, MRI and PT. For the consult, dr Loddengard was very knowledgable and reassuring. Everything went relatively fast. I dont really like the room setting. The healthcare provider sit 2 feet away from the patient. And For the MRI, they scheduled me for first appointment of the day but they came 5minutes late. However, the person helping me gave me clear instruction during my MRI.

Going to the doctor usually sucks, at least in my experience. I was recommended here by an old coworker of mine who dislocated his shoulder 11 different times (no joke) and I’m glad I took his advice. I’ve been suffering from a shoulder injury for about a year now and neglected getting it checked out. Fed up with my shoulder, I booked an appointment and was scheduled out in two days (good availability). I arrived on time and had to fill out the paperwork but was helped quickly.
The location itself is beautiful and the staff is really nice, I literally waited five minutes after paperwork and got some xrays taken. Dr. Brian Magovern was straight to the point and exuded confidence in a way that really reassured me. Im kind of a control freak sometimes but it was really nice to have someone who knew so much about my issue tell me that I’m going to be alright and that there is a solution. Being an uninsured patient, Dr. Magovern was really cool about working with me and I felt really well taken care of. I usually don’t trust many people with my health but the doc was honest, sincere and took the time to explain my options.
After a year of pain, I’m glad to know that I’m finally on the right path. Thank you!

My experience with Dr. Rogers and the staff of Torrance Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group has been top-​notch. Dr. Rogers performed my lumbar fusion, which was completely successful. I had a short hospital stay and very little pain. Since I had undergone a fusion many years ago, I understood the importance of following ALL the doctor’s orders to realize a full recovery; this included pain management, prescribed home therapies, and a régime of weekly physical therapy. Throughout follow-​up visits over many months, I appreciated Dr. Rogers reassuring me that I was healing slowly and steadily, as expected, yet encouraging me not to do too much too soon. I have and will continue to recommend Dr. Rogers to friends who need an orthopaedic surgeon.

Doctor Brian Magovern spent a good amount of quality, efficient time with me explaining my condition (ac shoulder joint and possible rotor cuff tear), that their shot therapy was NOT in my best interest for my particular condition, advised me on what to do (and not to do) to self-​heal, and demonstrated proper form for exercises.
He agreed with a prior diagnosis given by another Orthopaedic Surgeon, and even indicated I likely have a self-​healing tear or abrasion in my rotor cuff which was not diagnosed by the other doctor, but was indicated in my past PT.
As for the staff I rate them an A+ for my experience. This office has a full fledged therapy unit, and multiple doctors seeing pre-​op patients so they likely do a rather large volume. Given the number (low) of bad office staff reviews combined with the good amount of time the Doctor spent with me I am guessing these few unhappy folks are the vast minority. For fast food I would want quick, but for medical advice lets get serious people… rushing is not in your best interest.
Please give these folks a try, I highly recommend their services which is why I already booked my next appointment with them!

Worst Worst Worst place, Please avoid going there if you can.
They made me wait for 2 hours and then all bills were messed up.
Even after a year i still get calls from them that i have pending dues.
This is totally insane when i have paid my all bills in full amount already.
They are trying to milk money from customers. TERRIBLE!!!

BACK SURGERY; DR. TIFFANY ROGERS:
I had back pain for years, and went to see Dr. Tiffany Rogers. I found out I had two cracks on my vertebra and a herniated disc. After trying a couple months in a brace and with physical therapy, it became clear my only option to become pain free was surgery. I’m only 20 years old, so the idea of back surgery was scary for me, but even more terrifying to my parents. Dr. Rogers made it clear that the surgery was optional; she didn’t pressure me but made me aware that it was my only real chose for genuine pain relief. I elected to get surgery, and I am so happy that I did. It’s only been about four months, and I am already seeing results. I am getting ready to start therapy, but even without it I feel better. My worst days post surgery are better than my best days before I had it. And I am only getting better each day; I have complete confidence that I won’t even have bad days once my bone grows enough to complete the fusion.
Dr. Rogers used an anterior approach (through the apdomen) to access my spine and replace my disc with a PEEK cage. The anterior approach sounds scary, but it allows for much faster healing.
If you are reading this because you are considering back surgery but you are too scared, please know that I would make the same decision all over again. Constant back pain is awful to deal with, and I am so happy to not have every life experience made less enjoyable because I am in pain. Don’t let fear alone stop you, make an informed choice and find out about all the new technologies available today that make surgery recovery easier and faster.

First off — I want to break this review in half. I would give Dr. Kenneth Park high marks. He is thoughtful, thorough and informative. AND — it’s very important to point out that I left another ortho to come to TOSM because of a really terrible experience.
That said, here is part 2. I have waited for more than an hour on multiple occasions. I started making appointments first thing in the AM or right after lunch — that was better but most people can’t do that. I had to bring in my kid once (that meant an appt. around 4pm) and we waited almost an hour and a half. I was really mad, ready to leave but one of my kids went to sleep on the examining table, NO kidding.
So the doctors are good, once you see them, but it’s their office right? I don’t think the staff has anything to do with the number of appointments or how closely they run together.
Heads up — If you need an Rx refill there is only ONE person who can help you and he never answers his phone. Be prepared to leave at least 3 messages before anyone calls you.
