This is such an unethical company. I would never purchase anything from them and here’s why: one of their drivers hit my car, actually brushing up against it as I was taking my kids to school one morning. I honked and screamed at the driver to get his attention and he drove away onto the freeway. So, immediately I had one daughter take a picture of his truck, his license plate number and no registration tags on his vehicle, called the distribution center and they sent two other drivers to meet me at my home to access the damages. No one was injured, only damages were to my passenger side mirror. The 2 drivers that looked at my car and gave me the company’s insurance information assured me that the company would take care of the damages. I spoke with the distribution manager who also assured me that Room and Board is a big company and that they would fix the $ 512 damages. It took days to hear back from their adjuster. When he called me, I gave my recorded statement over the phone and he said that he would get back to me within two days. Days followed and no phone call back. I kept calling, only to receive a recording. Then, finally a phone call and an email back from the adjuster saying that the company is not going to pay for any damages and that I probably ran into another car of door on my own. WHAT??? I have 2 witnesses, pictures of the damages, pictures of the moving truck that hit me. I am taking these crooks to small claims court now. I am going to show them that liars don’t win. Please don’t buy anything from these highly unethical people.

Oh, the things a boy will do to save a few bucks… So, I ordered a new rolling file cabinet on Room & Board’s website. Room & Board charges a flat $ 129 delivery fee for unlimited items to San Diego, but there was no way that I was going to pay that for a single little cabinet that could easily fit into the back of my Mazda. So, I did what any good cheapskate and do-it-yourselfer would do: I called and arranged to pick it up on my own. Unfortunately, this meant that I had to drive an hour and a half from San Diego to the Room & Board distribution center on some anonymous commercial street in the outskirts of Lake Forest. And then I had to drive back home. Half a day wasted traipsing up and down the 5 freeway. Was this little adventure beyond the Orange Curtain worth the $ 129 that I saved? I’m leaning toward yes, but I need a little more time to finish deliberating, so I’ll stay neutral for now. Hence the 3 stars. And why exactly did I share this tale with you, my friends? So my greedy self can score another ‘first’… duh.
