DAMN. R.I.P. to this particular Bob’s Big Boy restaurant! I LOVED the food sooooo much, BUT like I have stated in my past review, the customer service sucked so bad like a female wearing braces giving you a «job application». I really really wanted them to improve, but sadly, they kept hiring stupid young people from this A.D.D./A.D.H.D. generation of mostly (NOT ALL) teens and college noobs that were too busy playing Hormones, Hang-​Overs & Hanging Out (like that? I came up with that! LMAO!) instead of Customer Service & Actually Doing Work.
I feel sorry for the older workers and the chefs who did their best to feed the customers, but lost their jobs. They kept their restrooms clean, despite the stupid skaters, gangsters, wanksters and taggers messing it up. Their epic breakfast buffet will definitely be missed by me and so many others.
This is a bitter-​sweet GOOD BYE to Bob’s Big Boy.

I really don’t want to bad-​mouth this place since they are closing, but after I ate there last Saturday, I know why they are closing. The food really was like what other Unilocalers had described-​fast food quality, or maybe worse in my younger son’s opinion. I know he can be picky, but he was really hungry after all that physical activities all morning. So why wouldn’t he eat that big cheese burger he ordered, well he said the cheese didn’t taste anything like cheddar cheese. This was the cheese burger from the adult menu, not the kiddy menu, and he asked his burger to be free of all trimmings — no lettuce, tomato and onion, etc., so it was just like the burger he normally gets from McDonald, or The Standing Room, no? All right, «What does it taste like?» We inquired, his reply was, «It tasted like plastic cheese». We all burst into laughter upon hearing that.
If they are going to charge $ 10 for a burger, the burger should be a $ 10 quality. Ppl aren’t stupid, they will know they are not getting what they are paying for in the long run. I know it comes with great fries but the burger should be good too.
I feel sorry that they are closing but meanwhile I am happy that there is a possibility that a good eatery maybe moving in.
Also I don’t know about u, but I am always feeling a little bit unsettling when I look at that «Big Boy», it kind of frightens me. Oh oh, I’m probably upsetting lot of fans now…

They serve more than just burger’s. Ended up getting the Big Boy Combo since they were out of the BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich. They also have salad’s and a breakfast menu.
Burger was amazing. My brother had «The Greatest Cheeseburger Ever».
It looked like it too and the person serving us was just way good at there job.
This place was way cooler than the Bobs I went to 10 years ago in Hollywood.
It was like a 1950’s dinner. Where as the other one was more like Bob’s in the 80’s.
I hope what others say about this place closing down doesn’t happen cause I really liked it here. Ill get a Big Boy bobble head just in case it’s true. As a souvenir of classic dining.
Interesting Note: If you read the back of the menu there’s a little story about a kid with droopy overalls who would sweep up the place in exchange for a hamburger.

Finally found a place we like… breakfast and banana split are worth going for! However, we’re sad that it will be closing.: (

I’ve never been to Bob’s Big Boy up until last year, and I was tired of going to Denny’s for their breakfast, so decided to check this place out after 24 years if residence in Torrance. I have only been here their breakfast, so can’t talk about anything else.
My daughter and I always get their breakfast buffet, which is fair for the price. Nothing really special, but I keep going there. They should definitely change up their line up though.
What I really like about here is their servers. Very professional and friendly. Not a 5 star restaurant service, but good old diner style service with each one of them «seem» like they’ve been working there for a long time

I’ve been coming here for a while now and this is my first check in. I’ve been coming here before it turned into a Carrows and back to a Big Boy.
Now there’s a «space available» sign out front… going completely out of business or turning into a Carrows?
Their all you can eat breakfast is t so great, but I keep coming back for the salads and mostly the pastrami. Love the pastrami, but sometimes the bread is too crisp and hot and burns the roof of my mouth.
The parking in the back doesn’t seem too safe with the KFC and the burly guys from the oil change place nearby glaring at me. Luckily, I’ve only gone here once for dinner and I parked in front that one time.
The big boy out front is an iconic part of Torrance. Despite its do not climb on me sign, there are ppl that regularly do so. People also stop by to take pictures with it. There was also another time when the entire thing was kidnapped by the nearby south hs as a prank.
And for those that love the pop culture, know that Murakami was the one that designed the iconic big boy!

All these years and I’ve never been to a Bob’s Big Boy. Well, I got a little tired of meeting my HS D&D group across the street at the Carl’s so I suggested here.
Well of course they love it! They’re in HS! I loved all these chain restaurants when I was in HS also. Wow, I almost miss those days.
Well, I got the Bob’s Burger special with a salad and asked for honey mustard. The salad is very plain, lettuce, tomatoes. Way too much salad dressing. Was almost swimming in it and it’s really sweet.
Burger comes out and it’s what you’d expect from a chain burger restaurant. Not a whole lot of flavor and it’s been thawed out the same day. Fries are typical and I walk away wondering how my eating habits were the exact same as these HS kids. Well, their taste preferences may be undeveloped but not their sense of fun!

Holy crap people this is Bob’s Big Boy not Spago of Beverly Hills. I love reviews like, «the chili fries suck!» Duh! You order an item that the place isn’t known or remembered for and then complain that it’s not up to stuff of your favorite. That’s like me complaining that the teriyaki at Coco’s is bad (well of course it is, Coco’s isn’t a Japanese or Hawaiian place). Seriously people you shouldn’t be expecting to much from Bob’s. It’s just a Denny’s without the Grand Slam or an IHOP without the pancakes.
Look here are the facts!
Service: Always had polite folks serving me
Food: About what you expect for a diner chain (that doesn’t really specialize in anything)
Location: Pretty good although the parking lot is a bit small for the restaurant.
Price: Good for what you get.
Nostalgia Factor: High enough, if only to pat the the Big Boy on the head when leaving ;D

I’ve been here a few times for breakfast. My grandpa really likes it for some reason. They do have some good deals. I get the blockbuster. 2 eggs, 2 sausage, 2 bacon, hashbrowns and pancakes for $ 6. The eggs, sausage and bacon are good. The hashbrowns are ok. They look like they came out of the freezer section tho and were just heated up. And the pancakes, well I’ve had better. lots better. But for all that food for $ 6 it’s not too bad. Next time I may get biscuits instead of pancakes, that may bump it up a half star or so.
A lot of people get the breakfast bar for breakfast. I never have but it seems popular. They have most of the breakfast foods you can order on the menu including pancakes, eggs and sausage. I think I heard the waiter say it was about $ 8.

It’s been awhile since I last visited this location, but this was good. Ironically, the last time I was here, I disliked the batter dipped onion rings. I enjoyed the the crumb onion rings in Toluca Lake better. Now that several years have passed, the onion rings have switched! Overall, service was good and food tasty. No need for a wait. A few more menu options, but primarily the same.

I like Bob’s. The breakfast is yummy and the service is good.

Bottom Line: The food was what you would expect from a diner– 3 stars. The customer service was great– 4 stars. Cleanliness was exceptional– 5 stars.
The place is very clean. I liked how you could see into the kitchen and see the workers cranking out the food. The service was prompt and friendly; one of the managers walking by acknowledged me and said hello. The staff seemed happy and outgoing.
I ordered the classic big boy burger /​w onion rings instead of fries. The burger, like many reviewers mention, is very much like a Big Mac with very thin beef patties, similar cheese and special sauce. Heard a rumor once that the Big Mac was inspired by Bobs Big Boy, way back in the day, but not sure if thats accurate. Anyway, adjust your expectations for a Big Mac or try something else on the menu…
All ingredients seemed fresh except the beer batter style Onion Rings were a little bit dry inside. Probably 3 stars for overall food quality/​taste but then I ordered the chocolate shake to go. WOW That was a tasty chocolate shake! Very rich chocolate flavor and very creamy with little tiny bits of ice cream clumps that kind of melt on your tongue as you’re taking it down.
They have a pretty wide selection of food on the menu as well as a breakfast buffet. I’ll probably go back to check that out but if for nothing else to try some more of their desserts. That is, if I survive the coronary…

Good stuff. This would be the next level up from a diner. It’s the diner style, but tends to be neater and cleaner. The menu has the standard fare you’d expect. The wait staff is responsive and friendly. The meals tend to be higher priced than they should be for the type of food you’re getting. Think Denny’s but a little better.

I have a soft spot for Bob’s Big Boy because when I was growing up it was the cool place to go. When I was in high school, we went after football games to table hop and hang out. One time I was there with my dad and the place got held up! Drama. Alas, ‘my’ Bob’s isn’t there anymore.
So, I have to settle for the new Bob’s in Torrance. I go there because my school does fundraisers — otherwise, it’s too far for me. But when I do go, I order the Big Boy combo (salad, fries, burger) and it still satisfies and seems like old times. The burger is like a Big Mac, but a little better. For diner food, it’s pretty good
I’m sad that they don’t have the silver goblets anymore. But I’m okay with that. I’ve realized that sometimes things that shine in our childhood sometimes lose their gloss when we get older. But I’ll still go once in a great while.

Originally a Chula Vista style Bob’s Big Boy it was converted into a Carrow’s circa 1980’s. I drove past it for many years and never even acknowledged it. Sometime around 2005 it was remodeled into a contemporary Bob’s Big Boy and became franchise owned.
I have numerous friends in the area and this quickly became a fun spot to dine at. The location is great! It’s right at the intersection of Hawthorne blvd. and PCH in Torrance. It’s fairly close to Redondo (perfect for when I go to the beach) and just west of Lomita (my favorite pit-​stop after buying tools at Harbor Freight.) Very comfortable neighborhood with easy parking. The quality of ingredients is much better than other Bob’s locations in Southern California.
The owner Jim, his daughter Lindsey and current manager Armando are about the nicest people you will ever meet. They put a tremendous amount of care into the business and even go as far as «dressing the place up» for holidays. They’ve even hosted Dodger and Laker themed days to encourage customers to come in during sports events. There is also a classic Mopar Saturday breakfast and car show.
The location is amazingly clean for a coffee shop type restaurant (probably because it’s so close to Rolling Hills/​Palos Verdes) and they offer numerous affordable specials (steak dinners for under ten dollars, daily beer specials, cheap desserts etc.) The only issue I’ve ever had with this Bob’s Big Boy was the fact it is now a contemporary style structure post-​remodel. (I refuse to go to the vintage Bob’s Big Boy in Toluca Lake. The food is yucky, there’s no parking and the wait time is terrible.)
But guess what? Jim Louder and family recently restored and began operating the 1958 Drive-​In «Johnie’s Broiler» in Downey as a vintage Bob’s Big Boy! So when I want to go to a vintage Bob’s I go to Downey and when I want to drive up Vista Del Mar along the coast I go to Torrance!
Great food for the price, great people, nice atmosphere!

what drew me in was the HUGE iconic big boy statue, but the food itself was alright.
there really was no problem with the food at all! the buns were fluffy, the patties were good, the cheese was like the cheese of big macs, and the fries were hot and crispy. as for the service, it really was pleasant. nothing i can complain about. there were also 2 flat screen tv’s that were showing the world cup so that was great!
i guess why it isn’t standing out from the crowd is that no one wants to eat a burger that tastes like big mac but still pay more. it really does taste like fast food. it would be worth while trying for the first time just for the experience, but i wouldn’t come back to sit and eat unless they started using less processed foods, and more fresh ingredients that are not empty calories. if they are gonna stick with the fast food mentality, they gotta lower prices.

This building held so many memories for me. I was so sad when it became something else and elated when it returned to Bob’s! But…
I agree with another poster… The big Mac is better than these new versions of the Bob’s cheeseburger or at least I remember the bun being fresher! I was so disappointed. My bun was so dry… I tried it again thinking … it was just a bad night for them… still dry! How did the old Bob’s manage to make the burgers taste so wonderful every single time?
The last time I went… I must admit that it was closer to what I remember. My daughter loves a different one of their burgers and says it’s the best one that she has ever had and craves them the way I craved the Bob’s Big Boy one.
Could it be that you just can’t go back? Maybe we are being too hard on them because no matter what… all of those wonderful memories and years later… I will never be able to eat those burgers like I did at 16 and still be a size 5! Ya just can’t go back! Now how bout splitting one of those Hot Fudge Cakes with me?

I think it is this location because I don’t remember the one in Glendale being so bad but the food is so undesirable that you don’t care about wasting food… you just want to leave it.
I should have asked for a refund.

I drove by this with my boyfriend. I had no idea it was there (used to be a Carrows)
The restaurant was clean and the music selection was all 80s, so we were happy.
Richard ordered a burger and fry combo. He ate it up, though I didn’t realize it had hamburger relish on it. It looked nasty to me, but he liked it. He also got a side salad. It had too much dressing for my tastes, but he likes his salads drowned.
I got the chicken fried steak. The vegetables were perfectly steamed. The cole slaw was a little sweet and vinegary, a kinda weird combo. I added pepper to it and then it was fine. The onion rings I requested were disappointing. The chicken fried steak was awesome. Deep fried, thick and crispy. It was covered in a sausage gravy with big chunks of sausage links. I liked their iced tea. Richard got an Arnold Palmer, but he thought it needed more lemon.
I wanted a sice of pumpkin pie, the special pie featured on the table, but they ran out. I was crestfallen. I may never recover. Update: 12÷8÷07. They STILL don’t have pumpkin pie, even though it is featured on EVERY FRICKIN’ TABLE. I realize it is seasonal, but if your restaurant is advertising it, wouldn’t you think to make a bunch of it?
Had the lumberjack potato pancakes. Heavy food, tasty, use the sour cream and salsa to brighten the flavor. I used a little Tabasco, too. Richard had chicken fried chicken and liked it.
Ok, I’ll get over it and go back. I saw a milkshake that looked quite yummy.
