Alta South Bay

This place is a joke. If your looking for a friendly and tranquil community this is not the place for you. People are rude here and act like they live in the hills when this place is located next to a trailer park. Dont be fooled by their appealing set up in the leasing office, they are incompetent liars. My car was towed during Memorial weekend. I went two day without knowing the whereabouts of my car. How frustrating, a note outside to notify neighbors where cars would be towed too would of been only ethical. So short story Alice or Alex whatever her name is, assured me they would reimburse. All lies, I even missed work because my car was towed. Also the electricity went out in the middle of the night and went Oakwood called the leasing office it was pretty much a misunderstanding. These people are just horrible and its causing me so much anxiety to not feel welcomed here. I want out soon. Also, the securities are incompetent little kids with no job ethics. They look 16, really I am supposed to feel safe with these securities. On the good note the freeway is accessible so you can escape from this place very quickly. Also, the pool is beautiful. Although, all these perks still don’t make up for their lack of ethics and effective management.

I had a great experience with the team at Alta South Bay. I am currently looking to relocate from Phoenix and called and spoke with a girl named Alex. She was super informative and answered all my questions and then some! She stayed on the phone with me 30 min to make sure I had enough information to help with making my living situation as seamless as possible. I look forward to seeing the property upon my next trip out to California.

Every situation is unique, but overall, most of these bad reviews should be taken with a grain of salt. You get one-​sided stories which are full of emotional embellishments based on a particular person’s personality/​views, especially when it comes to living situations. And when it comes to complaints over certain issues involving the application process, lease terms, rent pricing, policies, etc… guess what? Unless they are a lawyer or in the leasing industry, most of the time people just simply lack the understanding of how things work. Assumption and perception are prevalent in most of these complaints. If management was truly riddled with ill practices, they would no longer BE in practice and people would be lining out the door to break their lease.
As far as the actual living experience is concerned, I’m quite happy. Yes, there are some things that I could gripe about, but that’s par for the course. I have had «issues» everywhere I live, whether it be a house or an apartment, owned or rented. I’ve also had wonderful experiences, and would move back to the majority of those residences without hesitation. Overall, Alta South Bay ranks very highly on my list of places in which I’ve lived, and I recommend it if you’re looking for a luxury community with a nice list of amenities and close to the freeway.
If you want customized perfection, build your own house in Utopialand. Otherwise, stop in for a tour. Trust your own gut.

I just had the worse experience with this company. I went and viewed the apartments wuch ate beautiful the property is meticulously maintained very quite area. I thought it’d be a good place my daughter and I. I put in an application and I was approved, but then Alex tells me that me that my ss# has fraud on it and nothing matches hmmmm okay especially since I just bought a car and I had to use my social. It became a big hassle so I applied to Portofino townhomes wich by the way are much cheaper and I still have the same amenities and I also have an upstairs downstairs townhome. While I’m moving I call Alex tell her I’m moving else where, immediately did her attitude change. I was told it would take 21 days to receive my refund, why? I paid with my bank card just reverse it. So one week has gone and I still have not received my deposit back. I go to my bank thinking something is wrong I explain the issue and my bank says well they can just do fraud if they don’t return my money. So I call Alex one more time. Immediately when Alex hears my name ATTITUDE, like what do you want. I could’ve been calling to thank her for everything although I didn’t move in there. So I explain to Alex that I hasn’t received my money, she explains that a check was sent to the address I just moved from WHY would you send a check to a place I do not live at? I told her when I applied I currently had just moved and was staying at my grandma’s for about 2 days. Why would I put my grandma’s address on my application for rental verification. She explains they do not do rental verification WHAT??? Never was I told I would receive a check and never did Alex make sure she had the proper address to refund my money. I paid with debut/​credit and I know your company has the means to refund back to my care. Did you know Alex got the worse attitude with me like I owed her money, crazy right? Long story has to come to an end I will not be receiving my money back to my account I have to wait 21 days for a check. My advice watch Alex she’s not truthful with the business she conducts and she’s rude as hell maybe towards me because I found a better place to reside with staff who has better business manners. Oh and by the way my money could be refunded to my account in 24hrs all they have to do is send pay leaf a email to refund my money but this bitch refused to do that. They literally get 0 stars from a person who didn’t even move in. If you apply make sure you give them cashiers checks cause they like to scam you on your refunds. Don’t do business with Alex contact the manager whom I’ve never spoken to cause she likes to fraudulently hold your money for no reason.

I’ve lived here for about 4 months now, and my experience has been adequate. The leasing managers are constantly changing which gives me no reliable person to contact for questions or concerns. I’ve used the online resident portal to message someone regarding an issue I’ve had about noise, and have not yet received a response (it’s been about 1 week). The location is certainly not worth the premium price; however, the amenities and overall apartment design are nice. The quality of the residents has drastically declined since opening (not sure if this is because they are trying to fill as many apartments as possible since they are brand new). I would suggest looking at less costly alternatives that are located in better areas. Will likely move at the end of my lease.

The WORST place I’ve ever lived at!!! Don’t get fooled by the word ‘luxury’ loosely thrown around by this APT group. The management is completely INCOMPETENT (especially Josh), some of the residents are very inconsiderate and ignorant, and it’s just simply not worth the ridiculous amount of rent to live here.
I’m not just some disgruntled former resident but I’m writing this review as a heads-​up for all the future prospects who are considering moving here.
If you would like to overpay a silly amount of rent to hear barking of neighbors’ dogs (early morning/​late night), people swimming in the middle of the night (incompetent rental-​cops won’t do anything about it), constant ambulance sirens (a block away from Harbor UCLA), gross mess of communal trash bin area, lack of parking, and did I mention dog poops everywhere even in the hallway? Lol unbelievable I know.
Im soooo glad I left that dump but the funny thing is I still receive the email thread where residents vent their complaints and issues. Literally everyday it’s different residents bringing up same issues still. I can go on forever with my complaints but I’ll just finish up my review on a positive note by mentioning that some of the front office staff are very attentive and helpful. It’s the upper management that lack any managerial skills and common sense.

My husband and I have live at Alta south bay since it’s inception in June. We were one of the first phase moves. I’ve loved every minute of living there! We got luck with everything. Luxury apartments, Awesome amenities, great gym, awesome leasing office staff! With a top floor corner unit apartment… whose going to complain!
Granted there were issues during the summer nights on weekends where certain residents talk way too loudly if your windows are open. But, that was taken care rather quickly.
It’s a great place to live. We had very friendly neighbors. we developed a close knit kind of group at Alta south bay. If it wasn’t for my husband’s job relocation, we would have never left! I’m going to miss everyone and everything about that place!

On the border of a luxury apartment and just a really nice place to live. There’s not a ton of concierge services, but Torrance isn’t downtown Manhattan either. The onsite facilities are very nice, pool is heated, jacuzzi is large, the media lounge, and conference rooms are great and useful.
Certain tech upgrades like guest-​access-​callbox is through your cellphone, online rent-​payment, online-​community (not unlike a private 2008 version of Facebook), online notification of deliveries would be hard for me to give up if I ever move.
The building itself on the outside is nice to look at. Standard modern design.
Inside the floor-​plans are also very modern. Open concept living, dining, and kitchen combined with a large island in many. They come stocked with about $ 5,000 worth of stainless steel appliances, including in-​unit front-​loading stacked washer and dryers (uuuhmazing). We chose one of the least rectangular units, which can be difficult to properly furnish, but when you do it looks great.
So so things:
Internet and cell-​phone: The good is Time Warner offers up to 300mbs speeds. The bad is they’re Time Warner, so it won’t be a solid reliable line. The apartments come with an ethernet jack for every room, but they aren’t pre-​wired correctly so either you have to do it or you have to pay for an upgraded install. If you go with AT&T I think it’s included. The building does have guest and resident wif-​fi but as with all public wi-​fi it’s only good for spot usage.
Cell-​phone service is fine for AT&T and I would assume all the carriers that aren’t Sprint /​Verizon. Because Sprint /​Verizon don’t have those low-​frequency wall-​penetrating GSM bands you’re gonna have to stand next to a window for good reception.
«Wood floors» — although you can’t except solid two-​by-​fours in any building anymore it seems.
Carpeted bedrooms — I’m not particularly a fan
Pet-​friendly — The deposit and extra monthly isn’t great, but you do get some dog friendly areas for them to do their business.
Noise — There’s very, very little street noise but I’m at the back of the building. You can almost never hear a neighbor, unless they’re in the hallways, then you hear them loud and clear. Some people are loud talkers though. Even dogs are incredibly muffled unless you’re in the hall.
The Gym — It’s great but if you’re used to lifting at a full-​sized gym it won’t have everything. One of the machines is a duplicate and shouldn’t be used by anyone since all it does is cause knee injuries (but it’s a staple in a ton of gyms so whatcha gonna do). 24 Hr access is legit though.
Worrying things: The price if anything. If you got locked in at a good rate, there’s nothing protecting you from a rate-​hike you won’t be able to afford. Torrance doesn’t have rent-​control statutes.
The surrounding area. This is something that needs to improve with the people who move into places like Alta South Bay. There are a ton of major chains within driving distance, but Old Town Torrance is mostly For Lease signs. In fact there’s a huge building within walking distance I hope turns into a medium-​sized grocery store. Beyond the hope of revitalization, there’s not a ton going on in the immediate 5 mile radius.
Bad things: Traffic, no dogs by the pool, and apparently some bikes got stolen, but this is L.A. so that seems par for the course.

I honestly don’t understand a lot of the negative reviews on here, and some of them are just downright mean and even racist. The bitterness of some people is just ridiculous.
Now that I got that out of the way, let me start by saying that this is a brand new community that has just started here in Torrance/​West Carson and appears to be trying to liven up the area. My fiancée and I just moved in and we have been treated with the utmost respect from the staff and maintenance from the get go. And yes the prices have gone up from what others on here have quoted, but compared to a ton of other places we’ve checked out between Redondo Beach through Long Beach, these guys have the best bang for the buck even at their current prices. So check these guys out if you can. As far as amenities go, they have a great pool/​cookout area, a 24 hour fitness center, a media home theater center or conference room you can rent out and hold events, and a pretty sweet clubroom with mini-​shuffleboard and an old school pacman/​etc. horizontal arcade. As far as parking goes, these guys have the best I’ve seen around for an apartment community. They have a 5 story parking garage for a 4 floor building (first come first serve, which most other places I’ve checked is tandem if you have 2 spots and makes parking very cumbersome), and I’ve honestly never had an issue finding a spot for my car near the doors closest to my unit. The units themselves are awesome and very modern with fun little perks that you’ll just have to discover for yourself.
As to the negative reviewing people on here that have had ‘billing discrepancies’, we too had one thing appear on our bill right before move in, but we addressed it right away and they apologized for their mistake and it was immediately removed. No muss no fuss.
All in all, I would greatly recommend Alta South Bay as a cool little community to join. I’m glad they finished building and came available right as we were planning to find a place to move. And while some might find it to be a bit off the beaten path, there is a Starbucks and Target just down the street. It’s also not that far away from Lomita which has places like Costco, Olive Garden, Outback, Panera, etc. And for anyone who wants to be near a shopping mall, Del Amo is pretty close and isn’t too bad of a mall. Unless you’re just nitpicky, and if that’s the case then you can just hike your butt up to Century City or Santa Monica.

What can I say? I’m pretty particular about where I live. I relocated to California last year and was living in Orange County (Huntington Beach). When it came time to renew my lease, I knew I wanted to move out of Orange County. I found out about Alta Bay online and scheduled an appointment to tour the property, with Michael. At the end of my visit, I didn’t know if was Michael or the property that I really liked :-) Michael is really a great guy and he has made living in Alta South Bay that much better. I moved in mid-​August and have loved every minute of living here. Aside from an issue with ants (which was addressed immediately), I don’t have any complaints. The amenities are great and the noise is minimal (and I live on the 1^st floor). The staff is very attentive, professional and friendly. Each interaction I’ve add with Michael, Ashley or Rosanna has been pleasant and without issue. They are really a great team. Mario and the maintenance team is excellent. Each time that maintenance has taken care of an issue in my unit (and these have been small issues after move-​in) Mario has followed up, with me, each time, to ensure the problem was fixed and that I was satisfied.
I’m looking forward to seeing how the property maintains as it becomes full. But so far, I have enjoyed living here.

Very bad place to live… Came to check out this place and the way they treat people is on real!!! They speak to you with no respect and when I ask the gentleman that works there «Mario» that I needed help he told me to figure it out… If your going to live I. A place consider gig to another place that treats you with a little more respect…

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE customer service
I moved in the middle of the August. Before move in I paid one full months rent and deposit. Apparently they expected me to pay another full months rent at the end of August. Please people, tell me how that is reasonable! There was no email reminder and no letter in the mail. Of course I missed the end of August deadline. I went in to discuss with their female manager. She basically said nope you signed a lease saying you will pay before the first of every month. She had no desire to listen to my story. Even after she realized her employees mistakenly charged me a full month instead of a prorated amount, there was no apology. They are there to argue with you, they will not listen!!! Furious, I pulled out my phone to show her my welcome letter and the amount I paid. She didn’t want to look at it!!! Her male colleague took a look at it. I told them I also emailed them several times after I moved in because I myself was confused at the due dates. There were no replies. No apology, no replies. Just «you should have known better».
I did get my late fee waived in the end but going through the process of it does not match the caliber of the place they are advertising. This is a fast food restaurant attitude, not an upscale apartment management.

Overall I was very disappointed with Alta South Bay. Rents have gone up 20% in a matter of weeks, so anyone renting from here out you will have peace of mind knowing that the guy living next door is paying $ 300 less a month :-(
On top of the dumb rental increases over the past few weeks, this place is not rent controlled — so you can only imagine what prices will be when you go to renew. That’d be ok if this was near the beach, on the westside somewhere safe, fun, and cool. But its Carson (not even torrance as the address states) Not exactly a hub of fun activity where young professionals are flocking. Dont be fooled by the new paint and air fresheners, take a look at who’s hanging by the pool (keep your red, blue board shorts in the closet!) and find yourself a better place for the money.

Recently discovered and applied for residency here and the process thus far has been hassle-​free. The property itself is immaculate and very avant-​garde. The leasing staff that I’ve interacted with have been friendly and professional. So far, I can say that I’m a fan.

I lived here for a month and the community and apartments are beautiful. They are luxury at its best for a reasonable price in Metro LA. The 2 negative reviews on here do not reflect the community because they do not live here. Most people do not live in the real world of how apartment living works. To the person that was upset that the price went up the next day like someone did a personal attack against them is ridiculous and laughable lol. There in the business to make money not to provide housing for the city of Torrance. Pricing is based on supply and demand and everyone knows that apartment prices are higher in the summer time rather than the winter. It is very common for newer communities to charge for additional fees because it goes toward the up keep of the property. To the person that was mad about the not being able to move until October. Did it occur to you that when you scheduled your appointment that the units were available and when you arrived the units were rented. When I moved here I rented sight unseen because it was a new community and I knew at least the quality was going to be good. Once you’ve seen one apartment you’ve seen them all, plus there page on
accurately shows there floor plans with 3D floor plans. In closing is any community perfect? No but nothing is perfect in the real world and there many things to be upset more than I have additional fees to pay. shout out to Rosana, Michael, and Alexis in the office!!! I got yo back lol

I’ve been following the development process for quite some time now. My target move in date was November so I knew I didn’t have a good chance of getting a unit because the move in date for the unit I wanted was June. I took my chances any way. My boyfriend and I drove by one day in April and the foreman advised us to go online and apply. So we did and were immediately pre-​approved. Alexis called me that Monday to go through the final stages of the application process and advised us a few days later that we were approved for the unit we wanted. I asked her if there was any way we could push our move in date as close to November as possible and she advised us that our particular unit wouldn’t actually be ready to move into until October. I was almost in tears from joy because not only had I been eyeing this building for months but I got the unit I wanted and my move in date is only 2 weeks from my original target date. All the stars were aligning for us and now we are 3 ½ months away from moving in and couldn’t be anymore excited. Alexis is the BEST. She has made this entire process easy. We can’t wait to become a part of the Alta South Bay Family!

I was really excited to check this place out — I had been keeping tabs on the units and pricing via the website before the building officially opened and they started doing tours. I had scheduled a tour a couple days after they opened and noticed that they had jacked up the prices of the units on the website. For example, Unit 360 was renting for $ 1,735 before… now it’s renting for $ 1,980. Unit 247 was renting for $ 1,710 and now it’s renting for $ 1,905! I get it — «rent prices are subject to change», but that’s just ridiculous. I felt like I was being penalized because I decided to wait and tour it, rather than sign a lease without seeing any of the units first. I asked them why they decided to increase the rent so much and they told me it was due to «…increased interest in the units.»
Note that you’ll also be paying for EVERY single utility — nothing is included. Water, trash, sewer (fees based on everyone’s average), electric, and a monthly pest control. As for cable and internet, you’re only allowed to choose from Comcast or AT&T. There’s also a monthly dog fee of $ 50, and if you need 2 parking spaces (and you’re renting a 1 bedroom), that’ll be an additional $ 50. I understand the additional dog rent and parking fee — it comes with living in an apartment. And considering if you were living someplace like DTLA, you’d be paying $ 100+ a month for a space in a random lot. But with the rent increase, all the utilities, dog fee, parking fee, and mandatory renters insurance… it really starts adding up. Plus, the neighborhood and area that the building is located in doesn’t command this type of rent. The amenities in the building are great, but it’s not like you can walk to any bars, restaurants, or entertainment… unless you consider the drive-​through Vermont Dairy across the street a happening hot spot.
In regards to communication with their team, I received an email thanking me for coming by and taking a tour, and to let them know if I had any questions. I replied and asked them again about the rent increase, and if they thought the pricing would go back down after the summer… since rent prices often increase in the summer and go back down in the fall. No response from them whatsoever.

I drove up from South OC today super excited to see and sign a lease for the apartment I was told about on the phone. It seemed great and I was told it was available on Friday. After my hour drive there, I was greeted kindly by the front desk. But unfortunately there was an error and none of the units were available on Friday — in fact the units in my range weren’t available until October 16^th, 3 months later.
I had no idea why no one called me when they realized the error even though they acknowledged that my file said «moving in ASAP.» I wasted 2 hours driving back and forth for them telling me in 2 minutes that they didn’t have anything. It was very disappointing.
