Great coffee and friendly service! Have not tried the food though. Owner seems to be there often too so that’s always a plus

I will preface that I feel conflicted giving this 3 or 4 stars because the restaurant is very similar to chipotle, but it does have additional options that chipotle does not. I felt it wasn’t very original considering there is a chipotle a little further away, but considering the location the menu would seems it would be appealing to the locals and students. The restaurant offers coffee and shakes. This is the only place in the ‘downtown’ area that offers burritos which is close to a library and high school. During my visit, I had a bowl that included rice, chicken, beans, cheese and lettuce. Portions are similar to chipotle, so you won’t be disappointed and I think that prices are similar as well. The food was as expected when considering flavor and also filling. I do see myself going here again when craving a bowl or burrito that’s close.

The staff were very nice and the food is as great as it is affordable! I love that they openly advertise the student discounts instead of hiding them away like other stores. If your in downtown toms river you should definitely check it out!

The inside has lots of tables and was clean. There is some parking outside, metered. They deliver locally. When I went in I only saw one guy(the owner?) and he was friendly. I’m not really sure what’s up with the two negative reviews on the food. I thought the food was very tasty and the portion was pretty big. Supposedly everything is made fresh there. It’s similar to the other places where you pick your protein, starch, etc, and go down the line. They have some bottled drinks like water, iced tea, and they also make coffee and espresso I think. They’re also got some deserts like flan, changa, churro, and bread pudding are the ones that come to mind. I tried none of that, but I’m going to go back for some bread pudding. I got nachos. The chips were fresh. For toppings it’s pretty much what you’d find at the other restaurants, so not really worth mentioning. But besides usual stuff they have some really good mean salsa, queso, and garlic cream sauce. I like hot food and the salsa was pretty hot, but not overwhelming. it wasn’t so hot I constantly needed a drink. I’d like to try a different one next time, but I’d definitely get this one again. The queso was my favorite part of the mean. It was very tasty. I only wish I’d have got extra. All the flavors kind of blended in, so I can’t really comment too much on the garlic cream’s flavor. The only thing I can say is I loved the flavor combination of everything and soaked up every last bit of juice on the bottom. Now that I think about it, I mentioned portions above. the portion it was just right. not too big where I get stuffed and feel sick afterwards(ie: Chipotle), but not too small where I feel cheated. I’ll be back again. really soon.

I’ve eaten at MeanBean twice. Both times the food left me unimpressed. Let me start off by saying that the servers are very friendly and the atmosphere of the restaurant is very open and welcoming. The friendly customer service and the nice atmosphere is what earned them the third star. The first time I went, the guacamole tasted reminiscent of a packaged, store bought product. It was slimy and the only flavor it had was of lime and onion — no avocado flavor whatsoever. The chips were slightly stale. The pork in my burrito tasted okay. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t anything special. I will say that it tasted more like BBQ pork, which was kinda odd at a «Mexican» restaurant, but I digress. My second visit was below satisfactory. The chicken tasted like pre-cooked packaged«fajita» chicken that you’d buy from the supermarket. The chicken had no color on it and had an odd flavor. I couldn’t finish it, and my dog wouldn’t even eat it. The chips were very stale on this occasion. I ended up using tortilla chips I already had at home to eat the nacho cheese. The French fries were obviously frozen because I’ve gotten a similar variety at many diners. Normally I don’t mind these type of fries. In fact, I rather enjoy them, but these were a little under done. They were pale and soft, not crispy and golden like french fries should be. Despite the friendly staff and nice atmosphere, the food is not satisfactory and I am unlikely to return.

Was in the area and came across this place. Kind of like a Chipotle Mexican Grill in that they go down the assembly line to make your dish. I opted for a burrito bowl with chicken and pork, nice generous portions of fresh meats, accompanied by the usual suspects; rice, beans, salsa, jalapeños and lettuce. Was very good, everything was fresh and delicious. The whole restaurant is very clean which is also a big plus in my opinion, I’ll definitely be coming back!

Great addition to Downtown Toms River! Have gone there a few times since it opened it’s clean, the inside is renovated nicely and the burritos are really good. The salads are gigantic and their fries are some of the best I’ve had. Would recommend to anyone to give this place a try!
