San Marcos Restaurant

We went her based on Unilocal recommendations because we were in the area visiting the zoo.
The food was really fresh, and the portions were better than average. It is attached to a small market, which has a variety of groceries and fresh meats, so you can spend some time shopping while waiting for a table, if necessary.
They have a selection of aguas frescas, and horchata. I ordered the horchata, and you could tell they made it fresh. It definitely wasn’t one of those «from a can» mixes.

Non-​meat eaters beware! Being vegan for sometime I am wary of the potential for refried beans to contain lard at some places. However, when they are on the, as the menu states, «vegetarian» menu it seems obvious they would not. As it turns out every item in the vegetarian menu section contains pork fat at San Marcos. Fortunately I discovered this prior to eating them, but it was the behavior of my party’s server that molded the terrible experience. As we politely pointed out the problem with the menu, the server laughed about it, and went on laughing to tell a story about surprising some jewish people that don’t eat pork with the information after their meal. Pretty messed up to joke about that – at least know your audience.
Also the margarita was way too sweet, most likely a cheap (er, est) mix.

Not one to trash a place but this place is terrible. The margarita taste like mix. I ordered the all shrimp fajitas and get a thing full of peppers for 18 dollars and the waitress looks at me like I’m stupid when I say I’m bot happy with it. Never again

I have now visited San Marcos multiple times in the 2 months since my first visit and every meal, every experience, every taco is delicious and perfect! I keep bringing new friends with me because I feel like I need to share the awesomeness that is San Marcos and they all get it. The food is delicious, the margaritas are strong and so good, and the service is always friendly! I love to visit on the weekend when they have carnitas because it’s my favorite, but you can’t pick a bad meal there, it’s just so good!

Best Mexican restaurant in Toledo. Taco’s are amazing and the food is cheap. I’ve been coming here for years long before they had the dine in restaurant/​bar and was just tacos and a couple other take out items. Service is great. If you come on a weekend be prepared for a wait because the place is usually packed but they turn tables pretty quick.
The grocery store is also nice if you live downtown and need a couple items and don’t want to hop in your car and drive to Kroger or Meijer and the grocery prices are very reasonable for this type of store. Great place to buy things like Churizo as well.

Hands down, the best Mexican restaurant I have been to in Toledo and surrounding areas. Our server was very nice. The food was AMAZING. You can taste a difference compared to other restaurants. Everything tastes so fresh and flavorful. I recommend getting the guacamole-it’s delicious! I got the Super Flautas and it was also very delicious. Not a single part of the meal disappointed. The atmosphere was also very pleasant. Prices are not bad at all. I paid $ 11 (including tax) for my meal and had some to take home. I highly recommend and I will certainly return.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon thinking it would be a quiet day in the neighborhood — people worshipping at their Gods — but when I pulled up to the parking lot, boy was it packed! There was a bleed-​over dirt parking lot located next door. It’s a normal Mexican store when you step into the place, but as soon as you go around the corner, it’s as though you’ve teleported to the Mexican ruins. The walls are covered with tribal murals, beautiful and unique.
I ordered the combo plate with 1-​burrito, 1-​enchilada, and 1-​tostada (SHRIMP was my meat) for $ 9.99 and I ordered a grande piña for my drink.
The food was amazingly good. Their margarita was tasty too. When I come back to Toledo, I’ll definitely come back to this gem. It’s a great find!

I am glad my sister brought me here because I would’ve have found it on my own. You walk through a grocery store to get to the restaurant. The colors are vibrant and the atmosphere is lovely. I had a chimichanga with chicken which was pretty good. I gave this place 3 stars because the service was slow and the margarita I ordered was mostly sour mix. I am picky with my Mexican food since I have lived in California but this place is ok.

Legit Mexican restaurant and grocery store with deli.
Not from the area and found it in Unilocal off of the highway. If you like authentic Mexican food it’s well worth the stop off of the interstate !

It’s not a normal Mexican restaurant in case you may be thinking that, it is a MAJOR STEP UP! This place deserves 6 STARS! It’s fantastic, if there are any bad reviews ignore them because it was obviously a fluke.
Barbacoa is excellent. Tacos are always a quick favorite. Freshly made and the only place you can get a real tamale.
If it’s your first time whatever you order be sure to order a taco on the side. You will not regret it.

Soooo, let me just say that I’ve been going here since it was a little taco bar in the corner of the store, and it was always LE BOMB. I’ve been in SoCal for a while now (spoiled on the taco front) but I was surprised when I came back today and ate here. Are they under new management? I mean… It was downright YUCK! My pork was veiny and bloody, the enchilada sauce was straight from a spaghettio can and the cheese, was that Kraft American? What the heck?! I’m sorry but I have to review this restaurant because at one point in time it was THE BEST place to get tacos. I can’t say that anymore. Three yucky stars, at best.

Man, San Marcos has really come a long way. Initially a supermarket with a taqueria that was just a wooden slab at the back, and now it’s a full-​fledged restaurant with multiple local branches. All for good reason — San Marcos serves incredibly good Mexican food.
Ingredients are always INCREDIBLY fresh — don’t know how they do it. The burritos and tacos are on-​point. They’re generous with avocados and meat. Sauces are also fresh and flavorful. I usually ask for extra limes. As for drinks, they serve real Coca Cola from glass bottles with cane sugar (instead of HFCS) and really delicious horchatas. They’ve done an amazing job with the interior décor, too.
As for the grocery store, you can seriously find any Mexican food item you’re looking for. Great deals on produce. They even have a bakery up front with lots of pan dulces to choose from.
I’m a southern California native, and I actually crave San Marcos when I’m in SoCal. That’s how damn good it is. Do yourself a favor and visit San Marcos next chance you get!

I dated this girl who lived close to San Marcos so one day we randomly ordered tacos from there not expecting too much. It’s a nice restaurant which was and still is a grocery store so don’t get confused when you pull up in the parking lot. So we go in to pick up our order and the cashier doesn’t speak English that well so there is a little bit of a communication gap but we worked it out. We grab our order and go. The five minute drive filled my car with the oroma of tacos. So by the time we get inside I opened a taco and took one bite and could not believe all the flavor in one taco. By far this is the best place in toledo for tacos.

I give this restaurant, bar, and market a 5 star review.
I am originally from Los Angeles, California. With that being said, I’m accustomed to having eaten from a variety of many Mexican places there for the past 20 or so years. I must say that San Marcos Taqueria has definitely been my all time favorite place to salvage my cravings.
My family and I have been here over the past four years and has grown immensely popular and even established more stores and food trucks in time.
Recommend to try:
Carne Asada Tacos Special on flour tortilla.
Note: If you aren’t specific with this order like how it is said here, then you will receive a plain Carne Asada Taco Deluxe (cilantro and onion) on corn tortilla. The Carne Asada Special comes with everything.
Carne Asada Burrito
A Monster Pitcher of Mango or Strawberry Margarita Frozen and Sugar on the rim. It costs only $ 12.50 and it definitely is the best strong and sweet taste!

Really good Mexican food!!! Authentic!!! The inside of the restaurant is really colorful and full of life! The outside patio is absolutely lovely!!! It’s attached to a Mexican meat market. Very cool! I liked everything about this restaurant! The food was delicious! We had quite a big party, and a few people got the wrong food, but we didn’t say anything. The food was great! I had an enchilada, taco & tostada. A lot of
food. Couldn’t eat it all. I’m glad my family brought me here before I left town! I will definitely want to come back when I’m back in town! Good job San Marcos!

Everything I’ve tried tastes fresh, authentic and like tacos of my favorite late night haunts in LA. They have the best street street tacos and awesome margaritas. Make sure to order the shrimp cocktail and you will not be disappointed.
Depending on how busy they are, the type of service you get may vary; I can honestly say I have never received bad service here. The portions are great and the servers are friendly.
They have a great patio. It’s the ideal place to meet up with friends, share a pitcher of margs and eat way too much food.

As an Angeleno, I am unfortunately a spoiled snob when it comes to food, ESPECIALLY Mexican food. I could say with confidence that San Marcos could play with any of the big boys down in Los Angeles when it comes to their food.
I believe that you could tell a good Mexican establishment by the quality of its more «adventurous» meats. I ordered the Lengua (tongue) and Tripas (intestine) tacos as well as the safe Carne Asada (steak) and Al pastor (pork).
I have to say their Tripas (asked for extra crispy) taco is one of the best I’ve ever had. The Lengua was cut too thick for my liking, but neither of these meat had any weird smells that are associated with these parts of the cow. The Asada, Barbacoa and Pastor were also nicely marinated. Overall, the quality of the meat was what did it for me. You could tell that the meat is fresh and well prepared. Oh, and these tacos are HUGE! After two, I was stuffed and managed to get one more bite of the third one before I had to throw in the towel.
My only issue with this restaurant was the hot sauce. It’s spicy-​ish, but not flavorful enough for my taste. It wasn’t bad… but it’s no El Taurino.
In short, $ 1.50 will get you a great corn tortilla taco with onion (and cilantro), lime and two different types of hot sauces. I highly recommend TRIPAS tacos but I think all the tacos were good and the Horchata (mix well the yumminess is prone to sinking to the bottom). The best $ 7 (3 tacos and horchata) I’ve spent in Toledo!
